An Engineered Cobra Mk IV

Greetings,

What is the rarest ship in the game that a CMDR can fly? A Cobra Mk IV with a midnight black paint job. You had to be there at the right moment in time to get both. I often use it for open play meet 'n greet as it always starts a conversation on the comm links. I've made a lot of friends doing this...and a few enemies.

Here is my engineered build. Take out the fuel scoop and we get 60 cargo. Why waste mats on a Mk IV? Owing every ship in the game that I'm interested in and fully engineering them why not? I love gathering mats as it breaks up the grind so many complain about. Figuring out how to get them they might be a little harder to obtain versus credits...but we all know how credits are currently easy to obtain.

Shortcomings are one cannot add a class 5 fuel scoop to refill a class 4 fuel tank so it takes longer. Still using the class 4 fuel scoop it is surprising just as fast as a class 5. The MK IV fuel consumption could be better but for me it is a bubble ship so not a big deal. Per my build it runs at 38 percent heat in super cruise which could be better. Still it only goes to 54 heat percent when jumping to another system which is the lowest in the game for my ships. Don't tell the Devs.

Taking on an open mode experienced player CMDR in combat? Don't make me laugh. Have many rebuys! Lower experienced CMDRS in smaller ships could learn a little about engineering weapons. Mine are unique most don't use especially with one that thinks silent running will protect them.

Advantages. Engineered it is a pretty decent maneuverable ship, can land at small landing pads, with engineered thrusters it will outrun any NPC interdiction and with my 60 ton cargo capacity build can be very useful. It's pitch rate is close to an engineered Dolphin when farming HGEs. Many consider engineering the Cobra Mk IV a waste of time. Given their play styles they might be right. But with players who own the thing and a lot of hours playing ED we figured out how to use it.

Then again I just do meet 'n greet. With a great CMDR it has advantages. Anyone figured out my ship ID? I welcome showing off your Cobra Mk IV builds on this thread. See you out there.

Everything is great until I hit boost... Then I'm quickly reminded why Mk III is king. While the Mk IV was busy banging cocktail waitresses, two at a time, me and the Mk III was crawling our way out of the gutter transporting Biowaste into the bubble... made a fortune! Never made a fortune with the Mk IV - all it was good for was smooching the Empire enough to get me the necessary ship licensenses.

But thanks for sharing, and thanks for taking the time to engineering it so I don't have to engineer mine o7

The rarest ship would be a CM4 with that PJ and stuffed with Guardian FSD, PP, dist, enzyme missiles, fletchette launcher, Retributor lasers, clean drives.

It would be a unicorn among unicorns.

I'd call that a Chimera with a unicorn head attached to the backside.

Asp Scout closely followed by Alliance Crusader
C4 comes 3rd :)

Cobra IV would have to be the rarest ship that a CMDR can fly as only so many CMDRS have access to it... The others you list are less 'popular' or desired for other reasons. Not rare per se.....

Cobra IV is a lovely ship.... and fully engineered really does surprise a lot of people.

LOL, you are very welcome. Any other ships that you would like me to engineer so you don't have to? I'm not too busy at the moment awaiting Fleet Carriers and all...Oh wait they are delayed.:)

As others already have stated: i think i already saw somebody flying something like that. As well as a Cobra MK IV.

But i'd yet have to see any player use an Asp Scout.

And yea. My Cobra MK IV also is midnight black. And has fully engineered thruster and defenses. (Weapons could still be improved a bit. ) And is called "Coconut Cracker". Shouldn't be hard to figure out for which task i set it up for. :D

Don't mean to derail...but, since you are asking...:) did you post the Python already? It's like the Mk IV, I want to love her but I can't.

Which one? The Trading credit making machine or the Passenger credit making machine? I'm not a fan of combat in a Python. Too many other ships are a lot better at it. Some may disagree.
