PvP An Investigation Into Frontier's Actions on Combat Logging, Part 2

Despite my earlier posts I do believe SDC really care about this game.

They may be acting the immoral japesters but they are some of the biggest fanboys this game has and we should all be grateful they are putting their own time and effort into drawing attention to this games problems.

But the story of the boy who cried wolf rings loud in my ears and my immediate reaction is always the finger.
Sorry OP.

Nah,

What they care about is what they can do in the game.
It's all about deflection and misdirection.

Cargo and missions have no effect during war or civil war only bounties and bonds

Actually, well pointed out - I'm not entirely 100% with it by the end of the working day - so I'll take that slap on the wrist. Bad StiTch!

But yeah, the point still stands. x bonds or bounties are retained because of CLing, there is influence on the galaxy that should not have been.

No matter which side you stand on in the PvP/PvE discussion, I think we ca all agree that the game needs more punishment.

Elite has great potential when it comes to in game punishment and FD has only used cash reduction and module removal, so far.

Other potential methods for EULA violations could include:

- Jitter(including fixed weapons)
- Fuel leaks
- Heat
- Military demotion
- Permit loss
- Fighter crew mutiny
- Personal Thargoid nemesis
- Forced embarrassing paint job
- Exile to Colonia(Sets Jaques to 'starter station' to avoid suicide returns to the bubble)
- The Hutton double. All Engineers demands a Centauri Gin and a Hutton cup in addition to the regular material cost for a roll.

Happy punishing FD. :)

I kinda cringe everytime someone mentions "punishment" and "game" in the same sentence.

i dunno, the lack of punishment reduces the fun for me.

playing the "role" of good guy is a lot less enjoyable when there are zero consequences for making mistakes, or when killing 100s of pirates in a system does......... nothing........ to how the rest of them react to me.

and playing the role of bad guy is utterly ruined by not having consequences. (imo of course)

"punishment" does not have to be looked on as a bad thing if it is done within a workable context in the game.

I play form Australia. With bad internet. Fdev should punish everyone from the first time a disconnection happens and punish them even more for every time it happens after this, while in a combat situation (yes even if you dont shoot back, but are being shot, this is a combat situation). Whether it's your internet dropping connection or it's someone task killing, it don't matter. If you have that bad of internet connection issues you should not be playing in a multiplayer game mode anyway. I would be happy if Fdev punished people like this. If I were to have a drop out while in combat someday (which has never happened) and I were to get a ban for it, well I would be fine with this. Just knowing all the people that are cheating by combat logging was getting punished as well. It's actually pretty simple if they did this by looking at video evidence and actually took the time to look at logs. There is NO excuse for Fdev doing nothing about "combat logging". NO excuse at all. This is so disappointing!!!
Sorry, your post is not readable. Near white text with a white background is not good. Try again.

I knew who it'd be before I even opened the first link. Same guy who loves ganking weaker players at community goals with his big ship wing, but taskkills every single time whenever he's about to die himself.
He's been taskkilling ever since I first started in PvP years ago, and the entire community has gotten to the point with him where we don't even bother uploading his clogs for tickets any more. Nothing has happened for years.

With the new ATR NPCs Sandro has talked about, I believe combatlogging on NPCs will grow exponentially. Going on killing sprees in systems to put them in Lockdown should not be possible in Solo after that, and when ATR finally responds do you believe these players will all high wake? Or will a portion of that player group instead combatlog to avoid death? I believe the latter will happen with increased frequency, and combatlogging will then not be a "purely PvP problem" (it isn't now either, but that's besides the point).

Combatlogging affects other players, even when done in Solo or Private Groups. Not directly, but to some extent indirectly.

Yeah, this is what I forsee coming IF BGS massacre of NPCs prompt an ATR response.

However, it seems somewhat unlikely, seen as within a week of the usual BGS groups not being able to do their meta, whining will scale it back, much like with the much lamented NPC overhauls

Agreed. The kind of behaviour seen in the attached vids are scumbaggery of the highest order.

What about crap netcode? I'm playing mmo's where are hundreds of players in one place and there are no connection issues like in ED with few people in one instance. So please don't be silly, not everyone from videos is doing CL.

Odd that the chap in Jagermeisters videos connection only ever drops when he loses the upper hand, right?

My reply is going to get buried in a thread this long. But I'm going to type it anyway - out of sheer stubbornness!

Who cares!? That's my reply.

Why? If that is my reply, did I bother making it?
Because otherwise there is always a danger that a vocal minority might assume they are a majority. Of course I could be mistaken! Argue away!

So why do I assert my case?

I think most players either want to play solo, or prefer to play social multi-player rather than PvP. Players who want to play a competitive PvP are always able to find willing opponents - this forum has ample evidence to back up this claim.

So what we really have here, is a bunch of (perhaps selfish) players with (probably) over-engineered ships in specialist PvP nuking builds who want to lord themselves over inexperienced newbies who they out-class in every respect, and get all in a huff when the newbie doesn't want to play ball.

There. Said it. Nuff said. I realise this will not go down at all well with this thread. But I also realise, that at page 43, it will probably get buried and forgotten first... ;-)

Happy New Year!

In other news: Lance Armstrong tells Tennis players not to take steroids because it ruins his enjoyment of the sport :p

Sorry, had to take the poke. The irony is too good not to :)

Pee-taking aside, it's dissapointing that FD have no consistency when it comes to dealing out warnings and punishments equally across all cheating spectrums in their game, although it did take them 6 months since the first reports to punish the Engineer exploiters. That being said I think your test could use a follow up to truly gauge FD's commitment. One combat log per month is to be honest a low enough frequency as to be afforded the benefit of the doubt by FD. Once a month could be attributed to a spotty Internet connection just as much as it can to purposeful combat logging. This is assuming that FD cannot actually check a player's history and see if they were in combat every single time a disconnection occurred. I don't know if they have that ability.

I would suggest making a follow up investigation where the alt account combat logs once every 2 weeks for the next 5 months. That then creates a much more clear cut pattern of purposeful intent in combat logging. People may have bad internet connections but not so often that it becomes consistently shoddy every 2 weeks. FD's responses/actions to that will truly be telling as to their commitment on the issue of cheating via combat logging.

Yes, I know that some people get kicks from being punished. I still believe that is quite a narrow population.

In every game everyone may disconnect from the game whenever he want and people are not complain obout it. FD can't do nothing really to force someone to not leaving the game during combat. Read Microsoft EULA.

What FD may do is to make pvp better and worth it, then more people will stop disconnecting.
