An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

Like they should enforce the rules against the people who exploited the buggy station defense code last month which didn't make anarchy stations enforce their no fire zones, right? The bug is patched now, but a certain group of people did make a lot of use of the exploit while it was there. You're saying that these people should be severely punished to make an example of cheaters, right?

Yes, if it is considered cheating then it should be enforced and actions should be taken however it is not case and as proven before, Fdev is very lazy to take actions against cheaters.

I've just told you, i support better in-game systems to prevent griefing being this easy, but you're too deep into the anti-SDC anti-PvP that you can't see the solution for yourself, you have to give something for something.

I'm not pro-griefers killing everyone forever, i'm pro-ToS, but if you decide to be an enemy of the ToS, i will stand with the griefers because they, unlike you, do not intend to violate written terms.

No no, I´m not anti PvP, don´t get me wrong. But the OP is clearly gank-related. It´s not about someone cl´ing in a CZ.

But give a thought: How much will it take FD to implement a C&P system? I believe it´s nearly impossible to achive a proper mechanic, without false positives, without chance to exploit it. When I look at the way the gankers play their game, I can see they try to find every exploit they can. Then they use it. Extensively. So tell me, what would change with C&P? They still would search for the exploits and use them. Extensively.

And I can guarantee you, there will be exploits.

For me it´s not the ToS, it´s the players, unable to fit in a greater common sense than their own agenda allows them to.

So - remove the players? :)

Sorry, but that's not combat logging.

Yes it is. Combat logging has always meant logging out or disconnecting during combat; this meaning predates E: D. Frontier doesn't get to redefine it. If they want to allow it that's another thing entirely, but it is still combat logging.

Systems that, when exploited, lead to the banishment of the perpetrator. Let 'em buy a new copy of the game if they want to play again.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just Good Enough.

Then again, Frontier apparently has no desire to ban cheaters, so.. GG, I guess? Rule of law in this game doesn't matter anymore. And I don't mean that ironically, I mean that if the law has no teeth, it may as well not exist.

Well, we can't give up can we? The game has to keep moving, and if exploits occur then so be it, it will be patched.

The problem is that combat logging isn't 100% griefers encountering a logging 'victim', sometimes it's a guy logging because the tide of a fight turned on him, sometimes it's a powerplay underminer logging because he was found in a control system. It's impossible to generalize this, but the terms of service are fortunately very clear. What we need is a shakeup, we need the rules enforced, we need the crime system grabbed by the horns and improved, we need a great big fix, and it's all the better if we can actually work together to get there.

The fact that this game has a legitimate method with which to log out during combat only muddies the water, and points out the absurdity of harping on how people use their borrowed pixels. The difference between the incident being ignored because it was within the rules, or it breaking the game's rules, is a measly 15 seconds. This whole outrage party is bubbling along because of 15 seconds.

15 seconds is plenty of time to swing the outcome of a fight.

Has this ever happened? I've spent literal in game days in 8 hour shifts staking out systems that were undermined/5th columned and I've never seen them in open.

You can easily kill an anaconda in less than 15 seconds if shields have gone down.

That´s funny. I want to see your face when they tell you your account has been banned because of cheating. And in reality it was a false positive. You will be happily buying another copy?!?

It´s not that easy.

And please don´t talk about this as "law". We are playing a game here, we all want to enjoy it. By calling it law you are giving it a political dimension, which this issue clearly doesn´t deserve.

Because that explosion is so important. I don't get it. Such reactions to actions within a video game people routinely game for personal benefit.

That's a big 'if'. As in one of the biggest 'If's' in the game.

Shields offline is where the vast majority begin combat logging.

Also, explosions are 'important' because letting people go scott free turns everything into a playground with no purpose. If they are hauling cargo of significance, if they are fighting a group and they log out to repair quickly to return, it matters, simple as that.

I'm sure all of this is from the Hand Book. It seems to matter way more than it should. It's like a rash. This topic is brought up time and time again. It's like a monthly group therapy session. Buck up, and get over it.

Considering I stay away from PvP games when my internet is acting up, that's exceedingly unlikely.

Stop getting so wound up over a figure of speech. Every game has rules.

Just taking advantage of the loops in the system, remember SDC is in the business of using clever game mechanics and playing on the thin line of the TOS. That's why SDC is a highly controversial group that catch the attention of many people. Taking advantage of the stupidy of the community is good way to get our message across. If you repeat the same propaganda over and over, eventually players will believe you and join your ranks.

Everything we do in SDC is done in such a way that we know what is going to happen, we know the results of our actions and what is to come.

LOL.

Poor excuse. One message for you - gitgud at propaganda.
