Ships Vulture An ode to the Vulture

Nah, I've got all sorts of ships, and the Vulture is definitely a keeper on my top 3 list with the Mamba (because it's beautiful) and the Python (number one on my list).

I play ED almost every day, but depending on my mood I choose to do different things. Some day I might feel like taking the Mamba out exploring (horrible explorer but it's beautiful), other days I feel the need for combat, and though the Corvette is great for harvesting mats in a Haz Res, it's not even half as much fun as the Vulture. I have tried most of the ships in the game, and the Vulture is the one bringing a big grin on my face, whereas the Mamba is more of a wide smile.

The FAS is just a faster pig minus the optional piglet. I prefer the simplistic beauty of two symmetric hardpoints ;)

The Vulture taught me the basics of combat; it's a great "little" boat. Cheap to screw up in or experiment with too. With overcharged gimballed MC's one corrosive, the other incenterary (I think, can't recall exactly) you don't have to worry about pip management at all running a mildly OC'ed PP. Two to everything. This is excellent for beginner combat 101 because there is less to keep track of. (Yeah, I ended that sentence with a preposition, sue me lol.) The only downside is running out of ammo fairly quickly. Still, she's sitting in my port of call for the occational outting because sometimes the small boats are more fun than the big ones.

I'll tip my hat to Vindicator Jones for his basic combat guide(s) leading me in this general direction. Highly recommended.

Same for me..."murdering" through tje bubble is fun with a FAS, but if you want to be lazy then the Vulture is still my choice.

I'm still in the starting zone, but I'm getting ready to leave in a few more sessions. I've mostly been enjoying combat (massacre and pirate takedowns) in first the sidewinder, then a cobra MK3.

If I wanna continue this route, I think my next combat ship should probably be the Vulture. At what point (engineers, cash etc) do you think it would be time to make the switch? I heard I want an overcharged powerplant on the Vulture at least. I'm playing with fixed frag on the cobra if that makes a difference.
My Vulture build uses dual beam lasers (Grade 5 efficient) and it shreds everything easily enough in bounty hunting and conflict zones. I never run out of energy in the distributor and can fire the beam lasers forever.

What PIP are you using and how is your engineering? I'm now out of the starting area, not yet done more massacre or bounty hunting missions, but will get to that once I decide on a home system.

In the starting area there was a system which always was the target for bounty hunting (wanted pirates) and massacre missions. Does the "real" galaxy have systems like this or are locations more varied?

Most planetary asteroid rings have Resource Extraction sites of varying difficulty. Good spots for Bounty Hunting.

It's max level engineering. I use Dual Grade 5 efficient gimballed beam lasers (use whatever experimental you want) and a Grade 5 charge enhanced with the super conduit experimental on distributor. This ensures that my beam lasers are minimal in their heat generation and have minimal draw on the distributor as far as beam lasers go. The Distributor is maxed out on recharging so weapons recharge faster. I have it as recharge in general so you can change your pips to recharge your shields and engines more quickly if you need to.

The power plant is Grade 5 Armored (gives extra power generation and heat efficiency, hp points for the power plants at the cost of extra mass) though you can use Overcharged instead but I never had need for more power than what Grade 5 Armored gave. Shields are bi-weave shields with grade 5 reinforced with fast charge. It makes your shields pretty beefy while still having a fast recharge rate. Since the Vulture is a pretty maneuverable and fast ship, you can run away and regenerate your shields more easily in PVE.

The you should worry about is getting the distributor and beam laser engineering done first. For the power plant, I first did the Grade 1 of Overcharged and replaced it with Grade 5 Armored later one when I had the materials. After that, you can engineer everything else in the order you want.

Thank you, I just got the materials for G1 overcharged yesterday, and taking a trip to Tod and Marthuuk shortly. I'm using frag, intend to change to pacifiers when I get around to PP.

Once I saw the outfitting options, I had to... Give it a much more appealing look!

Yeah, the Vulture is one of those ships that have a good ship kit that make it look even better.

Yeah, just work your way up on the engineers and level up the ones you are going to use all the time to max level. The powerplant is definitely one of the first upgrades you want to get first since that is the main weakness of a stock Vulture, especially if you are going to be switching weapons and trying out various ones.

I may try some other weapons in time. Right now however, I'm playing with the frags while practicing dogfighting. Would like them to be pacifiers to extend my range a bit against small ships, but I'm coping for now. Interestingly, I've stopped having power issues. I've recently been researching the heat dynamic, and I'm considering a hull or hybrid tank cool running Vulture (<20%) to sneak up on targets for a big alpha strike and sensor targeting issues. An advanced strategy of this is to have shields and anything non-essential automatically disable when I deploy hardpoint to reduce heat signature, and when I'm in no position to fire, I retract them and regenerate Bi-weave. I think you can do some clever things with power priority by having a high-power module just push you over 100% use, you disable that and everything with lower priority to get significantly below 100% power while letting you toggle said modules by deploying hardpoints.

It's been some time, since I last sat in my Vulture and after THIS thread here, I decided to give her a little bit of love and refitted her. Yesterday I made my first ride-out and contested her with some of my squad-mates. What should I say?

WOW!

What a hell of a babe she is. I won against a PA FDL, against a MC FDL, a Frag Mamba and against a Frag Challenger. They all saw no light at the end of the tunnel. Then those 2 FDL-Pilots asked for a 2vs1. Well, I'm not THAT hell of a hotshot, but still stood my ground for 8+ minutes.

My love for the Vulture is renewed and it will last for the forseen future. One has to force me to get out of her cockpit again.
