An open letter to Frontier Developments: Something to chew on

What is it with all this "open letter" stuff? An opinion post (even if I agree with it) isn't going to get more attention from FDev just because it's got "open letter" in the title.
I agree with you and there's also this:

I do care what other Commanders feel and what their thoughts may be on this game, especially those who do not frequently post.

These forums are for everybody, which includes those who love Odyssey and those who do not. Which includes those with great literary skill and for those who do not. For those who speak English natively and for those who do not.

We all belong.

I wrote that open letter fully aware that, like in any other forums, some forum clown moths will briefly settle on it gifting us with the usual oneliners. I even take some weird pride in triggering a fully new thread with the really not so new Open Letter Template. Still, it's rather frustrating and frankly quite a few responses are outright insulting. I'm not asking for someone to hold my hand now, I'm merely curious if this was the intention?

Anyway, initially I was curious whether the way I perceive the development of ED which I attempted to describe with my lego comparison holds any merit or am I missing something that would help me understand Fdev better, among other things. If anyone want to share thoughts on that then all the better, if conversations like that are unheard of at this place then at least let me bury my post with the residue of dignity most of you left it with.

Your suggestion would make sense for a highly experienced and stable Elite Dangerous core development team with little to no turnover. Their expertise and familiarity with the engine would allow them to explore the feasibility of say integrating more missions into other aspects of the game like PP, BGS and CGs. They would be able to solidify and code for multicrew in such a way that should something like ship interiors be finally implemented, the multi-crew code would have been more "prepared".

It is my opinion though, that such an ideal core development team does not exist. With the exceptions of the BGS' Dav Stott and the Stellar Forge's Dr. Kay Ross, I am going to guess that the other coding is done by perhaps those not too familiar with the game, shown for example, by the EDO outfitting UI and the differences in engineering mechanisms in EDO vs EDH.

That would make sense, especially given the age of the game. I had the same thought when (i think with patch 4?) they introduced toast messages appear in the bottom right corner, hinting at what you describe. But this is more about the current expansion, and I think I should have been more clear about my intentions - I preambled with my Odyssey experience to have a bridge to my observations and my lack of understanding what is going on at FDev. I'm just realizing now that, understandably, everyone goes into a post like mine with a 'Another Odyssey basher' bias.

Mea Culpa.

Nope. You did not follow the official royalty free open letter template. Sorry. Not an official open letter.

I guess is that because someone that can decide what will happen to be the game, doesnt care about the game or even play it. Its hard to understand why so many bad decisions seems to happens to elite. And if someone with power to make decision doesnt understand the product(elite) or even cares about it. Then these openletters will occur to try to make attention to ... "hey you are actually destroying your product or you dont know your product"

With exception of the 'Open Letter' bit the use of which I always find pretty cringeworthy, I agree with the above particularly because the OP's tone was pretty reasonable I thought. Shame then that almost all replies are the usual edgelord one liner postings trying to be funny for likes farming that has become a rather regular and tedious occurrence here.

It has somewhat discouraged me from creating my own walls of text as threads tend to get derailed pretty quickly and honestly I guess it is a waste of time for that reason alone (apart from venting perhaps - that worked for me in the past few weeks and I'm a bit calmer again now, though not less disappointed).

Plus, suggestions about how to improve the game are pearls thrown before swine, Frontier have made their bed, they'll lie in it now and the only thing we as customers can do is refrain from throwing good money at them after bad - I decided the only thing I can do is to cut my losses and try to enjoy the game as much as it allows me to, but to never again spend money on Arx (it seems obvious enough that EDO is first and foremost a vehicle for selling overpriced MTX - those are priced so highly in fact that the only way to realistically obtain them is to buy Arx packs, unless you want to wait for months if not years to unlock a single skin/suit), and if I'm still around if and when the next DLC releases (I reckon EDO is the final one tbh*) I won't make the mistake of trusting FDev by blindly pre-ordering again, but wait for a few weeks after launch instead.

I think the game has entered its final phase, FDev will try to squeeze as much cash out of it as is still can (consoles, MTX - the pricing of EDO stuff certainly suggests they're going all in on this) and then that's it - they have other IPs they will want to focus their resources on, and in fairness Elite had a pretty good run. I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the plug in 2-3 years without a lot of additional content being added during that time (beyond skins that is). *Though base building could still be on the cards because of the monetisation potential, but who knows really - even Frontier themselves probably don't either.
