Regarding the new exploration scanners - everyone (of those who like the new system) focuses on the FSS. I just gave the DSS a try and I love it.
Step 1: honk. Nice one - 14 objects discovered
Step 2: FSS. What the netherworld, let's just scan them all (not something I'd usually have done with the old system). Holy resources batman - there's a couple of moons in there with 40+ geological features each (and a few more with 20+). Let's take a look.
Step 3: DSS. 3 probes to scan the planet and locate these 47 geological features. Eeny, meeny, miny, mo - where should I land?
Step 4: a field of ice fumaroles. Unpack the SRV and collect a whole bag of goodies - Arsenic, Cadmium, Technetium. If this goes on like that, I'll have enough materials to use FSD boosts as a matter of course instead of a last resort.
Only downside: the visual bug in VR where both eyes get different lighting of the scanner overlay isn't fixed. Off to the bug reporting forum.
