Animals Type not Represented yet? :(

IF this is near the end, what are your hopes taxonomy wise? What few animal groups do you want in game that are not in game yet?
For me as far as completely unique taxons go:

1. lagomorphs: Rabbits (and hares) are well-known (iconic even) and they can be found in zoos. Even pikas would work since they are a relative and seem even more zoo like. Ideas that I like for this group that come from the thread quoted and possible DLCs in parentheses
  • Arctic Hare (boreal/tundra)
  • Domestic Rabbit (temperate/farm)
  • European Rabbit (temperate/endangered)
  • Snowshoe Rabbit (boreal)
2. dasyuromorphs: would be nice to have the marsupial counterpart to "true" carnivores.
  • Tassie (islands/temperate?)
  • Any Quoll (same)
3. Hyrax specifically the Rock Hyrax (highlands or mountain)

4. Echidna any species (islands)

5. Luzon Giant Cloud Rat (islands)

Hey guys!

This is a new idea I had to allow for more meaningful discussion about what we still need in the game. Usually discussion about what animals are needed gets derailed pretty quickly, and is far from coherent and well analyzed.

So, I thought we should aggregate all thoughts on this subject in one place. How it will work?

Every day or two I will post the group(s) for discussion for the next couple of days. People will give their thoughts on what is still needed from every group, and by the end of it I will aggragate the results in the main post and we'll move on to the next groups.
Sadly, I focus on mammals because bird diversity can only scratch the surface... :(

Well if we just focus on mammals, here are all the unrepresented orders and how likely I think they are to be represented. I'm running with the assumption that we won't be getting any small mammals in the regular exhibit boxes:
  • Didelphimorphia (American opossums) - The Virginia opossum is an unlikely but possible addition. A couple other species like the yapok or grey four-eyed opossum also have a small zoo presence and would be suitable as habitat animals, but are also very obscure
  • Paucituberculata (Shrew opossums) - Not kept in zoos to my knowledge, all species are much too small to be habitat animals anyway
  • Microbiotheria (Monito del monte) - Sole surviving species is not kept in zoos to my knowledge
  • Dasyuromorphia (Marsupial carnivores) - Goes without saying that the Tasmanian devil is extremely likely. Other than them, several quoll species and the numbat are probably the only ones large enough to be considered but are unlikely at best
  • Peramelemorphia (Bandicoots and bilbies) - As far as I know, no species of peramelemorph are present in captivity outside Australia (where several species are kept). The bilby is a very common zoo animal within Australia and is also iconic enough to make its addition feasible (while still very unlikely, especially after the Arid Animal Pack), while all true bandicoots are extremely unlikely
  • Notoryctomorphia (Marsupial moles) - Most secretive and little-known of all mammalian orders, have never been kept alive in captivity for long
  • Afrosoricida (Tenrecs, otter shrews and golden moles) - Extremely unlikely, a few species of tenrec get large enough to be feasible as habitat animals
  • Macroscelidea (Sengis) - The black and rufous sengi has occasionally been mentioned as a potential addition but the likelihood of the order being represented is extremely small overall
  • Hyracoidea (Hyraxes) - Not likely but not super unlikely either, I could see the rock hyrax making it into the game. Probably the third most likely mammalian order on this list to make it into the game after dasyuromorphs and lagomorphs
  • Sirenia (Sirenians) - The West Indian manatee is frequently discussed and requested, but the fact we don't have any fully aquatic habitat animals in the game at the moment makes the likelihood of its addition very uncertain
  • Lagomorphia (Rabbits, hares and pikas) - I could definitely see a hare or rabbit coming to the game in the not so distant future, far from a guarantee still. Lots of potential options to choose from, good likelihood
  • Scandentia (Tree shrews) - Not sure if any species are large enough to be habitat animals
  • Dermoptera (Colugos) - Neither species has been kept in zoos long-term to my knowledge
  • Eulipotyphla (Typical insectivores) - Most species are too small to be habitat animals, but something like a European hedgehog is possible (or, going for something much rarer in zoos, the Hispaniolan solenodon)
So basically it comes down to Dasyuromorphia being extremely likely, Lagomorphia being moderately likely, Hyracoidea being possible and the rest being very unlikely lol. Would love any species from any of these orders as long as they are kept in captivity somewhere, the more diversity the better.

I could really see a lagomorph appearing at some point in the game as they are an uncommon request but seems like that would be a type that really could have a rep at some point.

Lagomorphs and the Carnivorous Marsupials are great ideas even while being at the opposite end of the spectrums - one group with a species that is highly requested, one that's not even moderately requested but is actually probably more iconic and one of the most recognizable animals in the world.

I think the main issue with the Lagomorphs is that this game is not just about animals in general, it's about zoo animals, and Rabbits and Hares are just not animals that often come up when talking or thinking about zoo animals. I'd still really like to see one added. My preference would be the Arctic Hare just to fill out that area of the world some more.

The Tasmanian Devil may not be as well known in general terms, but it's certainly got a huge backing here, and seems more fit for a zoo game than the rabbits and hares. The quolls get mentioned but nowhere near as often as the Devils. I do think the Devil will almost certainly make it in the game, even if we do end up with just two packs left. Frontier is not directly beholden to add animals from the metalists, but I'm very certain they're aware of them. Interesting fact, of the top 12 mammals from that list in the beginning of 2022 (prior to Wetlands reveal), we've gotten 10 of them; along with a number of animals that were nearly as highly ranked. I don't see any real reason that would prevent Frontier from adding in the remaining two (which happily are my 2 most wanted mammals as well, so it's a win/win for me). Side note on this one, I'd also be really happy to get a Numbat but it's definitely not a priority.

The Hyrax would be an interesting addition and definitely a great one for a more oddball pick.

I'm not opposed to some of the other groups, but many of them are probably too small for even a walkthrough exhibit, much less a habitat. That's just regarding mammals of course, I'm not going to get on the bird soapbox here since it's late.

These are the animal types yet to be in Planet Zoo.
  1. Fish - Last of the five groups/kinds of vertebrates to be there. Only ones there were unnamed species being good to fish-eating adoptable animals.
  2. Chameleons
  3. Geckos
  4. Cobras
  5. Millipedes
  6. Crustaceans like crabs
  7. Toads - Last of the four types/kinds of amphibians to be there. One newt and one salamander were already there.
  8. Walking stick/Stick insect
  9. Flying birds like parrots and birds of prey - need aviary ideas to prevent those flyers from leaving and Prehistoric Kingdom already had those qsmall aviary ideas
  10. Larger snakes like green anaconda, king cobra and larger pythons - need larger Exhibit size to contain those
  11. Mantis - Were those in zoos in real-life?
  12. Turtles (true ones) - There were two tortoises and one terrapin.

Here’s my picks for aboves animals list
1. Lagomorph: European hare
2. Fish: Koi fish set of 4 as a WE
3. Chameleons: Jackson’s chameleon
4. Gecko: leopards Gecko
5. Cobra: King Cobra
6. Millipedes: idc
7. Crustaceans: Giant marine hermit crab
8. Stick insect: Lorde Howe Stick Insect
Gonna skip flying birds that need aviary
9. Toads: yellow bellied toad
10. Mantis: orchid mantis
11. Turtles: either box turtle or red eared slider
