Dropped?

Same thing could have been said about the wings functionality I am now enjoying. It was also mentioned in the design proposals, it was also not in the game at release and yet here we are. I think it is far more safe to assume that they will keep on working towards implementing those features as time goes on even if certain specific features indeed might be dropped at some point due to many different reason. Or replaced by something else entirely that fits better into what the game is at that point. Or maybe even expanded upon. Or...

Come on Tinman, you're not playing the game properly. Modern gamers have to be tin-foil hat wearing Chicken Little/Henny Penny's (or Private Frazer's... whichever you prefer).

Still only 32 at a time, still only 4 to a Wing...

Were the limitations placed and design decisions made this way because the console versions were planned from the beginning ?

Yes thats it your right.... conspiracy theory much.

Or perhaps because 4 is a good size for a wing (squad) when there is a max of 32 players per instance becasue of the peer to peer nature of Elite.

Of course it could have been 1000s of people in an instance and 100s in a wing, if it was all server based and Frontier had a bottomless pit of money. But I watched the kickstarter everyday and getting funded at all was a close call. Small budget = compromises.

I am Beta backer and I own an XBox One, happy now?

Me too :)

how's that gonna work with every update having to be submitted to microsoft for approval ? I'll tell you : every update will be delayed and PC players will have to suffer from it... you can kiss goodbye to small regular patches cause that would mean submission EACH TIME for MS to review and approve patch for xbox users cause cross platform means that patches have to be ready for all platform AT ONCE. Guess what, approval from MS for patches can take up to 2-3 weeks.

And if we all share the same servers, let me tell you that Microsoft is going to do a hell of a job (mostly by injecting MONEY) so that FD make everything easy for console players until they don't care anymore about PC players. Cause let's be frank, consoles is where the money is nowadays...

Also, this explain a lot of features being cut down and I wouldn't expect to see any of thos said features any time soon. CONSOLES = LIMITATION all the way down the line. And as usual, PC players will pay the price.

My faith in FD has been staggered tonight...

Not sure I believe the suggestion the game won't be dumbed down re consoles. In large part I think it already has due to the way the interface was designed from the beginning. Its not a huge stretch of the imagination to think that a console version was at the back of the developers minds all along. It obviously makes sense from a business pov but I do wonder where the focus of Frontier lies when at this stage it appears to be more on cross platform than actual game content.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Wings functionality is a positive step but the game still lacks a lot of content given the focus of ED seems to be about people interacting with the background game rather than the players being able to make our own story through emergent gameplay as seen in the likes of eve.

Time will tell..

I am not arguing with you but please, tell me, how could they 'dumb down' this game?
You fly about and sell stuff or shoot stuff, it's not complicated.

It absolutely will be dumbed down, unfortunately. In fact, it seems as though it already has been due to the various design shortcomings. ED feels more like a good port of a console game than a true PC Elite title. People think this is just about graphics, but this also severely limits what Frontier can do gameplay wise. The Xbone is trash hardware already. What will it be like in 3 years? The game is stagnant, and will only expand in a direction that consoles can support.

I wish you all the luck with that, but this news sounds to me just like saying World of warcraft, counter strike or Starcraft 2 was being ported to a console... Just seems like the target audiance of a space opera isn't present in the console comunity. They might buy it because it's new and fashionable, but I don't see the xbox one comunity sticking with the game. After all it's for the elite! Finally, I don't see the game working well on a single pad only... Also console gamers don't really endulge bugs in their games as well as the PC comunity. I hope you get what you deserve ED, a bigger community and bigger funds, but I'm afraid you might be running in a wall with this move...

Edit: Also just remembered that to play online on the Xbox One, one requires to pay monthly for a gold account... Another hurdle...

Just so you know, Counter Strike already exists on Xbox 360, FF XIV (MMO) Exist on PS4 with same universe as PC players, and at least Elder Scrolls Online is being ported to consoles.

As far as I know the only thing that has been confirmed as shared between PC and Xbox so far is the galaxy background info. I am not an expert but I could easily see PC gameplay mechanics and content (such as Wings or similar updates) being updated at a totally different rithm than Xbox.

Are backers going to benefit from the Xbox One version?

With No Man's Sky being a PS4 exclusive for the moment, it seemed obvious that ED (or something similar) would appear on Xbox to counter it.

I'm excited at the prospect of playing the game on Xbox One as that it is the main platform I use for multiplayer gaming BUT my concern is that I (like others here I imagine) spent a fair few $$$ on the PC game plus the lifetime expansion pass. Are these going to apply to the Xbox One version too?
