News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

So, essentially all those features that were supposed to be in the game at launch, are missing because resources had to be allocated for console port development?

Not sure I follow. FD has engine team and XBO specific people, responsible about XBO games. They are doing conversation. Bear in mind that XBO is basically modified Windows with almost indentical DirectX (with few additional features), and FD already had two games on XBO released - Zoo Tycoon and Screamride, both witch clearly uses advantages pushed by engine team for ED. That way they can release game on XBO in so short time.

I couldn't help but to notice that no answer has been given to question, concerning whether partnership with Microsoft will delay patching the pc game. Few other concerns have been addressed by the devs, but not this one, no and i think we all know why.

If there's bugs in PC version, no doubt they will be patched. If you want to know about new features - I would expect some sort of mechanism which allow PC players to enjoy features sooner before they get rolled out trough QA for XBO. If game client is designed in a sensible way, there's clearly no limits to that.

Have we reached IT IS A SLAP IN THE FAAAACE status yet? Has anyone compared it to a car yet?

I need to know what level to adjust my disgust and outrage to, thanks

To people asking if there will be cross-platform play, the answer appears to be NO. The above quote makes it clear that PC and XBOX will share only the same database (economy, mission states, and storyline). If it was possible for a PC player to encounter and XBOX player in space, this would have been explicitly stated.

Until they explicitly state that it WON'T be happening, they are still leaving the door open to it, and the lack of firm commitment to seperate groups for console users sounds like politician type weasel words to me.

I got a bad feeling about this.

You can have this bad feeling because they said they consider to let us play together

It's a desirable feature, and we're assessing the viability. For now we can confirm it will share the same evolving narrative and galaxy state between PC, Mac and Xbox One.

Thanks man, I appreciate it.
I won't be able to look away though, not while we are at DEFCOM 2 like this.

I'm just glad they dropped the news this week, I'm on holiday. Normally I get up at four, would have missed all the fun.

Imagine being one of the guys who wakes up to this tommorrow...

As long as one group has no advantage over the other, I cannot see a problem in console / pc / mac players being in the same instance. If however one group has a disadvantage, then perhaps they should be instanced separately (but all still pooling the same galactic data)

See for me it is a really bad week for this BOMBSHELL to drop.
My car needed cleaning and then my remote for the TV ran out of batteries and I am at the end of my tether, and now THIS

When the first console player gets interdicted by a pirate and can't use his comms to bargain then it'll be clear who has the harder time there lol

Can you link your accounts though?
Well hopefully it'll go on Steam to make life easier, who knows, it might get on Games For Windows Live or whatever it's called!

Microsoft's restrictions for games on their consoles are ridiculously strict. One can't fart unless a request has been sent in, sent back, resent, signed in triplicate, bathed in the blood of a three legged wombat, stir fried, atomically restructured, cryogenically frozen for no less than twelve years and reanimated as a rubber duck. That's just to pass gas.

I have that, on very good authority, from a very unreliable source who also happened to confirm HL3's release date (more on that soon) so, we are all doomed. :D

But, seriously though, the deal is done. There's no going back. The dye is set and come hell or high water there is going to be ED on Xbone. We may as well all get used to the idea because all the speculation, fear, hate, love or whatever isn't going to change a thing. I, for one, welcome our Xbone overlords and have prepared a sign to wave at them as soon as they hover above Manhattan.

Yes, i'm sure they have a dedicated team for console porting, but imagine if that team would have be merged with the team responsible of creating content for pc version. We might actually have a game filled with content by now, instead of just a solid foundation to build on top of.

What i can't understand is why not to make games for pc and utilize all the horsepower they have at their fingertips and then, after the technological envelope has been pushed a bit further than last time, the game would be ported to consoles -as well as possible. Best of both worlds, no?

So, one game/platform at the time, start with the strongest platform (pc), stretching the tech as far as possible and then port for weaker platforms (consoles) as well as possible.
rather than;
Developing a game with terms of the weaker platform and "pretending" that everything is been done to create a leading edge product.

Oh and i'm worried about MS ruling the pace of updates, especially since both versions of the game are essentially the same, as stated previously.

e. hmm, what happened to quotes? Oh well, this one was for Pecisk :)

and if PC players thought the penalties for getting killed without insurance were harsh, wait until the "die, go back 5 seconds and try again" console crowd have to deal with it!

I'd bet all my console games that Microsoft has waived many if not all of its usual strict rules to get this game moving on Xbox, they need customers and can and will bend their own rules to get them.

It's great news all round I think, can't wait for the new guys to arrive :)
