News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

So people campaigning on separation of solo/group/open can just stop now. The XBONE players will have a bigger effect to "your" galaxy than solo/group players and there's also nothing you can do about it.

PC Supreme Race reporting:

My gaming history is Mega Drive > PC > Playstation > PC > Dreamcast (still owned) > Playstation 2 (still owned) > PC (in pieces) > XBOX (still owned) > XBOX 360 (still owned) > PC (still owned, plays E: D) > PS3 (still owned) > Wii U (still owned) > PC (still owned, plays E: D)

Among those I have had 4 gaming laptops (2 still owned & have used both to play E: D) and many handhelds (GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP & Vita, all still owned).

Unfortunately I have never played Elite before E: D, I got hooked on X games when I got X2 for free with my 3rd PC's GPU (the one in pieces) though.

Well, good thing I am here now, then, isn't it?

By the way, how many here already play this game on a XBox 360 controller? I know it's "more than just one".

Also by-the-way, if there is crossplay, how on earth would any sort of person who owns a python and sits on millions of credits find a sudden buffet of newbies in sidewinders a bad thing?

Wow, so guess its downhill from here. To bad, haven't seen a game recover from this move, PC version is about to be simplified because hey the DEVs feel it was to complex with to many keys. Look we made it better by removing key binds and functions. I guess there goes my planetary landings and walking around expansion pass purchase too.

Thanks Obama.

The 1.2 update have added more keybinds and functions compared to 1.1...

Yes hiding in plain sight so ashamed of our 'console' history.

Commodore64 -> Megadrive -> PC -> Playstation 1 -> Playstation 2 -> PC -> Xbox 360 -> PC -> Xbox One
Elite ----------------------------> Elite ----------------------------------------------------------> Elite -> Elite

Everyone should remember that Elite was published for the NES/Famicom, and was at the time *the* best 8-bit version. So Elite has already been on consoles, many moons ago. :)

Personally I think this is a nail in the coffin for me for this game. I'm quite sad about it. It is what it is, my life goes on ;)

Well there is a concern that you simply NEED to develop not just for the lowest common denominator in terms of gameplay capabilities (e.g. foreground simulation of NPC ships and persistency) but also for the expectations to the typical target audience of PCs and consoles. There is a difference between PC and console games.

Today? I did not buy PS4 & XBONE because they basically share 99% of their games with PC. So I just build a beastly PC and wait for 75% off Steam sales. If anything the audience we have today is the most common in history (I don't know how to phrase that better).

word for word I could have written that post, it is quite unnerving!

The only real difference, these days, between a Xbone/PS4 game and a PC game, is just the machine it's released on. All are developed on a PC and requires very little (as compared to previous generation consoles) to port to either system. Essentially, make a game on PC, optimise as needed for each console. ED may well not be "reduced" to the Xbone requirements for performance, it's quite possible it's the other way around. Just saying.

There's a few examples of a PC Game not only looking better but, also having features that it's consoles cousins don't.

Complexity and interface always go for the PC side. Its why microsoft knows they can't have mouse+keyboard vrs controller for fps games (they tried and gave up). To make things "work" for the couch, you gotta dumb it down.

Could you please post a list of FPS that they tried and gave up using keyboards and mice on for consoles? I love reading about stuff like that, thanks!

Poor old Titanfall, I noticed it on Origin the other day for like 12 pounds lol

It's a really good game and had so much potential. I was planning on playing it properly but due to bad matchmaking and a small pc community I quit after a couple of months. The only modern shooter I've liked since quake.

On the plus side I can dedicate all my time to elite instead :D
