News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

only way this will work is if its on the same server and cross platformed with mac and PC players irregardless of platform they use for the game..

knowing microsoft though they wont want that (tis why they shun alot of pc based games).

this does NOT bode well as if there is a split universe one for pc/mac and one for console for open play.. well lets say this much i wont want to be hanging around the forums at that point.

dont get me wrong great idea but it has to be cross platformed so everyone plays together (and before anyone says that puts a console player at a disadvantage) ..with ED it doesnt as it uses an xbox controller as easily as a hotas the only thing that could gum this up is microshafts xbox hosting program (that everything has to run through their own servers) ..

oh well time will tell.

Good luck with the port, sensible idea too.

I imagine the challenge of getting so many controls down to an xbox pad with no additional keyboard will be a challenge, good opportunity to use the voice recognition I reckon though.

I'd rather a game was made for PC (and Mac) first and THEN ported to consoles .... I've been burned the other way around ... not mentioning any names *cough*ROCKSTAR*cough*

wrong plattform.. i would have prefered ps4.. and now everyone knows why you cant have nice things like 4 fire buttons.. because it was made with controller jockeys in mind that would cry if they cannot have the nice things too.

You guys hqve read it wrong x box will not play with pc players. He means we are all in the same system ie like open and solo playerz in the same system but not meeting each other.

Good news though any money brought in from xboners will make the game better. Hope they do a load of micro transactions for them.

Great news. Ps4 next brabs.

In any case, as long as Elite sells on XBox, I'm actually all for it. I'm in Mobius grouo anyways (so no PvP), and anything that helps this game evolve is just groovy to me.

Of course Frontier will need to allocate resources, but they know what they're doing.

but I suspect this will put those things I backed the kickstarter for (deep immersion solo offline gaming, reactive galaxy & economy, complex missions & unfolding storylines) even further down the priority list.
This

So this is why the wings are limited to 4 players.

And this

The trouble I have with the trailer is that it just doesn't depict reality. I know it's marketing but when you're attracting the console generation with this you're asking for trouble.

And this, I really hope this does bite them in the ass to be honest ;)

I’m also pleased to announce PC, Mac and Xbox One players will all share the same overarching narrative and galaxy state. That means even more players contributing to the wars, power struggles and Community Goals across the galaxy.

To people asking if there will be cross-platform play, the answer appears to be NO. The above quote makes it clear that PC and XBOX will share only the same database (economy, mission states, and storyline). If it was possible for a PC player to encounter and XBOX player in space, this would have been explicitly stated.

Yeah...the game can't pause like that!!!! Refund!!!

:D

And in case that wasn't what you were getting at...Get tangled up with one of the new NPC wings in the 1.2 update and then get back to me, especially in a strong signal source. ;)

The way I read it is that the meta data mentioned above will be shared, but who you physically meet will probably be separated.

Great news David! Let's see this puppy take over the world! More players --> More money --> More funds for development --> More cool stuff for us!!

Why would that be then? If you are going to the trouble of having everyone in the same galaxy, which presumably means sharing the same code on the server side, why not allow the players to meet?

Question: What ships are those? And the smaller ship is being launched from the larger ship, right?

What's an Xbox? :p

It's a really inexpensive PC with great graphics, a mediocre DVD drive, a small amount of storage, a really ugly controller, and no keyboard. It's like a graphics-heavy netbook, in other words. :)

The design looks like something by Lakon. Might be some kind of short range high speed fighter.

how in the namme of hades is that great news???

if th console players are effectively in the same server but on their own instance like the solo vs open play aspect .. we're now looking at competing with a third entity abusing the instances for the market for trade.. this is a good idea in that light ?

David answered your question ...

Ah, Alien. I am well versed in Frontier Announcement Language. It's not clear, as I'm not the only one asking this question, as the statement can be interpreted in more than one way. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Frontier will never gain a Crystal Clear award.. ;)

Or maybe ... the Xbox sales will help pay for development of the expansions? How many space games are there on consoles? I think the sales will go through the roof ... OK, not GTA V levels, but still good, and if it pays for the expansions, then I'm all for it. I'm still playing solo or maybe FGE/Mobius groups, so I don't care if Xbox players join the galaxy, it's all good.

I cannot share the enthusiasm, your game is not made for the console controls and also doesn't appeal to the audience there. Hope this false hope to cash in extra doesn't drag down the PC version and the company.
