News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

Except Frontier have openly admitted they were planning to release on other platforms since early on in the Kickstarter?

As other have stated, graphics have suffered since beta and now it looks like the 4-way limit for wings was a console based decision... I feel lied to.

The 4 player limit to wings was because :
1. The 4 player wing system has been used in air combat for the past 75 years and this game's flight model is based on dogfighting.
2. Any more than 4 players and it becomes easy to tank an instance. Imagine a 16 player wing rolling up to your fav station and there's no chance another wing could out man them.

Explain to me how this will detract?

The game has been designed from the ground up to accommodate the lowest common denominator platform wise. Essentially, if the Xbone can't do it, and the PC can, then the needs of the Xbone come first since they've committed to delivering the "full ED experience."

It means that that the game has been designed around consoles, limiting everything from graphics to gameplay.

But as someone stated earlier, they played on a laptop which is way more limited then XONE... and it isn't a console.

4 player wings... well this isn't a limiting factor, look at other games who has +10 friends playing in the same team (hell look at PS3 MAG who had 128 players).

EDIT: and as other have stated, they have been very clear that this will end up on other consoles as well.

So it's confirmed its not cross-play so we won't see Xbox players initially (may happen in the future) so does that also mean we can't transfer CMDRs between platforms ? And if you paid for a Lifetime Expansion Pass does it apply to the Xbox version too (and all subsequent platform versions ?)

Hi, I am new to this forum as I have been avoiding any info about this game as much as possible. Now that it is coming to Xbox One, I, a 45 year old father, screamed like a little girl and signed up for the forums. That is all.

Welcome, good to see you here.

I am sure FD knows this, however I would like to say that if you think we got a lot of winning due to lack of depth in game game, just wait until the xbox crowd come.
Prepare your eyes commanders.

Besides that, I do not have any problem with it, as long as the game is not dumb down or slowed down in development.

This might answer some of those questions?

Perhaps the biggest news is that from the end of this year you’ll be able to cross buy games on the Xbox One, Windows 10, and tablets – meaning you only have to buy one version to play it on all three formats. Apparently this includes microtransactions and DLC, although it’s not clear how the fact that PC and tablet games are generally cheaper than the same title on consoles will be handled.

Powerplay.... So its going to be a PVP arena mode?

Might have been mentioned before. I just started reading this thread but still wanted to give you all this information. Yesterday there was the thread called ´Arena Commander planned ?´. It was posted 3 hours or so before this thread. It points to this reddit article where someone looked at the ED files and found something interesting. The author is talking about signs of ´a competitive PVP mode´ especially three modes called: Death Match, Team Death Match and Zone Control. This could very well be the ´power play major update´ DB hinted about. Check it out and make up your own mind.....

RIP Elite. But i expected that.

I played ED at the beginning but there is so much lack of content. Now with the XBox announce its clear that they go the wrong way with this game...... Not adding content but ported it to console. And furthermore to the XBox -.-

The whole point of the design of ED is that the graphics scale with hardware. If you have better hardware you have better graphics and the range is actually very impressive. XB1 fits somewhere in the middle. ED has been designed to cater for a range of hardware of which XB1 is one form. XB1 is a pc, albeit a pc with a specific hardware config so I dont see this port being particularly challenging, decide on a graphics setting, optimse the code and potentially some HUD changes, it wouldn't surprise me if they already have a mock up. Lots of the dev's used gamepads so the control should be fine.

The big picture here is that FD potentially now have the resources to make this an unbelievable game. In one announcement we've moved from will the expansions happen to when. Unfortunately FD dont have millions of dollars to make the game we all dream about, the only way they can get the resources is by selling seats and this announcement will sell more seats. I have a lot of friends with consoles, but not pc's, who want this game and now they can.

Nah the game is super basic as it is, the problem will come from the VERY vocal console crowd complaining that there is 'nothing to do' etc

Sorry man, do you realize that most of the people that own a PS4 are actually pc gamers? So don't worry about whining? I will not whine.

LMAO at people acting all surprised.

The cross platform nature of Cobra engine was obvious to anyone who paid attention to video game industry of the last decade.

The long furry ears of a console game were sticking out from the get go.

Here's hoping it won't affect further deve... Damn, who am I kidding?

Personally, Instead of talking of consoles and or pc, why not rather fix gameplay, immersion, game mechanics, better missions ect ect........and then talk of expanding.

ED has so much to offer where I believe that Frontier should be really working and placing all its man power on bettering the game instead of going after money.

Wow , now that it is coming to console, I guess Frontier will just make more money and we have to wait years till the game is actually enjoyable instead of grinding .

I am sorry, guess I am angry to hell but I just can`t get myself into the game as it is boring to hell with bugs beyond thought.

If someone could convince me otherwise then maybe I continue plying ED but for the moment ,somebody is raking in all the cash at Frontier for the love of Marketing.

Sorry if I might be anoying people out there.....

I'll tell you a flip side of why this is good news - it's good news for console gamers sick and tired of the way console games are.

While I haven't gone next gen yet, my brother and friends all had the 360 and we were frustrated as heck by the lack of good cooperative games, games with challenge and learning curve to them, etc... the trend was all on dumbing down. And I know we weren't alone on this.

ED will certainly capture a niche market there, and that might just grow into mainstream popularity. More console gamers than you realize WANT more complex games, but can't necessarily afford a PC which they feel (right or wrong) they need to upgrade every 2 years with the equivalent of a new console in parts.

Complexity and interface always go for the PC side. Its why microsoft knows they can't have mouse+keyboard vrs controller for fps games (they tried and gave up). To make things "work" for the couch, you gotta dumb it down.

That is utterly not true. Regarding fps games, the main platform of Advanced Warfare is consoles - all professional competitive matches are on Xbox One on a controller.
