News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

That is actually played by a lot of people with low end PCs. There's no harm to the game to being accessible to more players.

Michael

I do agree with that statement! If it has no impact on stretching things then yeah, why not. If your commitment is to stretch things and then "yeah we can dial that back for the low-end" then that's great. :)

Afaik XBone doesn't do expansions so all the stuff about planetary landings etc etc. Will either have to be in the launch game or released as a different game?

..or are we going to lose those now as the Xbone won't cut it?

that is so not true!... Hell I wish it WAS true!. nearly every game in the last few years on console has heaps of expansions. I do not doubt releasing on console may lead to the temptation of some design compromises - which I hope FD resist, but this thread has so much completely unfounded negative info regarding consoles...

The 1.2 update have added more keybinds and functions compared to 1.1...

Maybe so but I just cant see why EVERY control is not bindable on keyboard as an option which we could use or not use..... The only downside I can think of is perceived advantages from those who cant use a keyboard. Certainly functionally speaking I cant see any downside for PC users, who could take it or leave it :/

I think the way things are panning out, that long term Mr Braben will be looked upon as the Clive Sinclair of today. SO much promise and then through over reaching it all went belly up.

I, for one, would appreciate a low-end PC support. At the moment I can go as low as 8fps in the station at low settings. Plays nicely in the space though

I think this is a positive development. FD need money to develop the game and this provides an opportunity to expand the player base and bring in funds for future development. They have done a great job so far and the game is developing nicely.

It is never a problem when people with low end PC`s have access to ED however, if you see what we see and if you feel what we feel then ED can be something worth talking about on all platforms.

Instead, what Frontier have gone and done is try to make more money and all you will get is 50% Positive and or 50% negative the same as PC but Frontier will be laughing themselves to the bank......

Why in the hell can you just not stick by your words and create something spectacular and stay with it by fixing and making the game more interesting......:)

I bet that Robert Space Industries is laughing out load like mad even though I know they have had a massive kickstarter wich borders the insane....

My opion might be wrong but I feel voicing it, means something at least...

STOP HOLDING BACK THE GAME WITH YOUR INFERIOR HARDWARE!!!!

.
.

:p

On the other hand you should probably look at an upgrade if possible if you get those kind of numbers on low settings. ;)

The real reason we are stuck with the crummy 2 fire buttons/fire-groups finally revealed.
What other compromises can we expect to accommodate other platforms.

Paying for Beta access looking like a poor decision after all!

They already are.

The game is being expanded upon as we speak (1.2 is awesome!) and they always said that they would hope to release on other platforms at some point, including consoles.

I've just remembered I played Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga CD32 it played quite well as far as I rember and I was actually pleasantly surprised with it.

Full list:

You Forgot the Amiga CD32, although you generically put in Amiga so that probably counts

Do we really care about low end PCs? That is just spin, plain and simple. Back from the Kickstarter days when we actually believed what DB said - "Elite: Dangerous is an unashamedly high-end PC and Mac game".

High-end pc gaming is a niche and not a majority at all. Always been that way. Most are on low to mid-range hardware. I've seen statistics myself from analytics (not with Elite but other games).

Fire groups can be created as many as you want, what you meant is no more than one alternative fire button.

I will disagree. Two fire modes with endless fire groups makes much sense and no, it is not console dictated imho, rather than just smart streamlining of interface.

Yes, that must be it!

All those other buttons on the XBOX controller can't possibly be used to fire off a weapon/fire-group if that's what they wanted.
