News Announcement: Elite: Dangerous coming to Xbox One

If we are going to be able to play with Xbone people, I think sadly I'll be switching permanently to solo mode.

A private group (like Mobius) will probably do the trick.

On the subject of the article referenced though - why are people assuming it affects ED? What I read into it is that it will be for brand new games with "requires windows 10" written on the PC box, not for old games already supporting windows 7 and 8. This feature will, no doubt, not be compatible with those versions on windows.

i really want no xbone people in our universe. They have the worst community out of all the consoles. Give them they're own server an keep them out of our way.
If we have to share, im gonna shoot all console users down, i don't care if it they make pirate, i just want console users to know they're place.
All we're gonna hear from them is "nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf" because they can't fly or because they got shot down which indicates the ship is op.

I know you're thinkin of the initial sales, but I suggest you be patient. Try to remember, you will probably hear that "nerf' talk for a few months, followed by the X1 shoot em up crowd leaving and us X1 ED enthusiasts staying and trying to learn your game's(yea I admit it is a PC title first and foremost, and I'm bassically a neighbor being invited into your home by FD) history, lore, and how we can be productive members in the game.

EDIT- I also want to say I believe the X1 version should have a screen or menu or something where we can read all abourt ED's predecesors, history etc.

Because no PC gamer has behaved like a jackass. Ever. ;)

I think it's a little early to be worrying about this. A shared world cohabited by both PC and console gamers simultaniously hasn't been announced. And I mean announced for the game specifically, not a none-game presentation that vaguely implies something like a shared infastructure or economy.

I don't see the problem with a shared universe anyway. There are in-game bounties and fines that get applied to people not following station protocol etc. And lots of traffic etc can only add to the atmospher in game. :)

But honestly, I can't see it happening, much as I personally would like it. I will add, I'm a mature gamer, I played the original elite back in the day. I can respect PC gamers feeling like their noses have been put out of joint a little with this announcement, but surely anyone who wants to buy the game when it's out and play it should have the right to do so, regardless of the platform they play it on? :)

Plus, I don't think this game will even register on the radar of those immature console gamers, but it might add new younger mature gamers, like it did back in the days of the original. Your idiots would play dig-dug and pacman because they had a short attention span, and the interlectuals would play Elite. :)

It depends if the galaxy will be shared with console players.

Also, and I hate to say this, XBox Live is swamped with wannebe 1337-kiddies (I know I'm generalizing here, but in my opinion, it's sadly the truth), and I'd hate to see those buzzing about my relatively peaceful galaxy, grieving just for the heck of it...

I'm hoping for an Xbone galaxy all their own... I've yet to encounter another player on Elite who has had sex with my mother... hope that continues

First of all, really happy about this. I bought the game but so far have not got around to playing it as I also bought XBOX One around same time.
Now if this has been answered and I just missed it when skimming through this thread I apologise.
Will I be able to play the XBOX version with the same account I already purchased or will I need to purchase an XBOX version of the game on top of the PC version I already own?

Apparently it seems plausible that only the PC version / MAC version are exchangeable. However, to have the PC version and the Xbox version will allow perhaps to play the same commander

Well being able to play cross-platform with my friends who are still on PC would be a bonus, but I am not so much concerned about this. What I am interested in is, if I have to purchase the game again or can I use the existing account to play on XBOX?

From my experience with other games, if you have it on pc you'd be looking at buying again on xbox. Also because of the way games usually work on xbox, being tied into your xbox account/gamer tag usually you can't access the same game account across different platforms.

Of course, this is what's happened before, and as with everything new, things can change :)

Nobody knows for sure, but the general concensus is that you'll need to buy a new account for the xbox version.

But if as you say you havnt played your pc version yet. I would urge you to contact customer support as you may well be able to exchange it for the xbox version.
the obvious down side being, you wont be able to play the game till they release it on xbox.

Yes as I said, apparently it semble plausible that only the PC version / Mac version are exchangeable.

:)

The most annoying thing is that no one is going to give any details on the deal as it is some BIG SECRET. For example how long will we have to wait for the PS4 version? Why is this simple question too much to ask? Is it because they don't know? Is it because they don't know how to develop a PS4 game (David seemed to suggest they were used to making games for X-box as one of his reasons)? Are they not saying because it is for a year?

FD better hope that No Mans Sky is rubbish, otherwise they will lose the biggest market in consoles and will be too late.

I think because No Mans Sky is generating a LOT of interest on PS4, Microsoft had to counter it with something. Their relationship with FD made ED the logical and obvious choice.

I can't wait for both! But I am concerned about NMS, as apart from pretty vids showing off the game world, we know almost nothing about the game or how we're supposed to play it.
