[ANNOUNCEMENT] Win an Nvidia Geforce Titan Black in our in-game Scavenger Hunt

Well I tried some lateral thinking as well and tried to act on it:

Nico Godel is an nVidia CUDA specialist (LinkedIn) who has probably helped Frontier fix some issues in the game. The end point is Godel ring (as we all know :) )

Nicobarese is the only system that responds to the search for "Nico".

Nicobarese has a Kepler Platform in it.

No dice.

And no titan black either in any of the stations in the system (well named for mathematicians though).

That pretty brilliant deduction there, and a heck of a coincidence about the Kepler Platform. Too bad it didn't pan out.

I'll repeat myself, if any external information is needed to complete this INGAME scavenger hunt, FD will face the next storm. I doubt they are upto this after the last ones and were very careful when designing this search.

Thanks, though it was after I'd been round visiting stations that had Kepler in the name. There are over 25 scattered around the known galaxy and it was quite the travelling salesman problem. The lateral thinking brought me back to a location that I'd visited previously, so the coincidence struck me as odd and took another look.

I'm sure that most people have googled for any tidbits, and it isn't knowledge that is hard to come by. The Kepler architecture is well documented for anyone who has an internet connection :)

As mentioned above it might have narrowed a brute force search of a few systems down to "right first time". But not this time.

It will be in a teacup tho.

Its a bit of fun and doesnt directly affect the game they are developing.

It's also done wonders for my docking technique.

Hehe, so if anyone has to use any kind of knowledge or information that they did not specifically learn from the game, then you will bring a storm to FD :D:D:D

I learnt how to read and my motor neuron control outside of the game, I would consider that external information. How dare people think about things.

I never did say i will bring a storm to them. Jeez ppl be nice. I just stopped searching outside the game since it says ingame scavenger hunt.
i believe every clue needed is in the game.

I tend to agree (=hope) that all the clues being ingame. However some of the key words in this quest connect reaal nicely - not that I've found anything yet :/

Awesome video. I had the same Kirk's reaction, when finally achieved one of the distant Kepler systems that I was hoping to have a secret base... it was after a long trip of 15 hours (i stopped in some places to scam the systems fully) with some deviation to other places because i had a new hunch and happened that the systems were "near" from where i was, quotes as sarcasm... finally when i achieved the "final destination" at 5am my wife woke up with my Khan scream... next whole day was spent in the trip to go back to pursuit another hunch :)
Earned a lot of "pioneer" titles as been the first one to visit a plenty of systems out there...

I cried laughing in the video... my wife too... regrdless winning the prize i want to find that damn thing by myself... thinking on this like competing in a marathon.... winning does not matter... crossing the finish line matters... it has been pretty awesome.

I went on the math/Godel angle this morning; Hilbert Gateway, Kolmogorov City, Cantor Terminal, both Russell & Ackerman in Eravate are all dead ends. :(
I had fun playing detective though!

Most systems I've visited with stations named along these lines have had a lot of traffic in them.
It's been two days now, and only three people have claimed to have found it, which makes me think that we can eliminate the more obvious suspects, and try to think from the viewpoint of the competition creator:
It's not in a high-tech system - this is assumed because it's a graphics card, but this is too obvious. High tech systems tend to me more popular with traders too.
It's nowhere near the drop off system - this would be too easy.
It's somewhere with typically low or zero traffic - don't want anyone stumbling across it just by logging in.
It's not an outpost (not certain, but unlikely).
It could be in a system with lots of stations (to make finding it more time-consuming).
It could be a long way from the jump-in point (ditto).

Now I'm at the stage where if the traffic report tells me only two or three other people have visited in the last 24h then I get a surge of hope, but still nothing so far...

suppose someone from the Mobius group finds one. make a call to other Mobius cmbrs. they go first to station and start a battle to thin pirate ranks. when all clear. the carrier just waltz in. throws private party afterwards to Mobius friends

And what would be wrong with that? Maybe two teams of Mobius folks will find them and wind up killing each other in Ededleen. This could play out in many, many different ways, and the only real advantage anyone is going to get is knowledge of where the cards actually are.

Nvidia = in DIVA , got to DIVATTUNS (TTUNS sounded a lot like you now what!)... No starport, just an outpost 22,000Ls from entering.

Guys, I'm sure the Frontier Devs hadn't since a LOOONG time such a good laugh all over this w-e, reading all our brain-stormed-therioies about the location...

I hope 2 things:

- it WAS a puzzle.....
- it's NOT random...

ok, one is obvious to the other, but I leave em remaining 2 things, just to underline its importance ^^

I love a good riddle, that's why i had fun doing it and i am very interested to see, when it's over, how close or far away i was from finding it. :) (that's why i really hope everything was ingame and not some twisted search-every-bit-of-info-we-put-in-several-social-media)

seems stupid but someone tried california nebula ? nvidia headquarters are in california....
I thought that, but the nebula is so huge and nebulous that I'd have no idea where to start. None of its systems seem notable at all. Couldn't find anything else called California X or named after Santa Whatsit either.

I for one hope it's random. Why? Aren't you guys sick of seeing those contests that involve puzzles that are solved in record time by some genius with way too much time on their hands and you realize after the fact you never ever stood a chance?

At the very least the random bit is the great equalizer. Go out, explore all the known worlds of the inhabited system that you usually ignore because of your favored trade routes or staying in your comfort zone, and you might get lucky.

Sure, the "never stood a chance" factor is still there, especially if you have groups organizing and dividing the labor of exploration. But it's still better odds than most puzzle based contests I've seen.
