The pricing is an insult to the people who have already purchased the game and I will not be investing. I have, similarly, cautioned my friends against getting the game, since I now see the true colors of Frontier's monetization strategies.

Sorry guys. But no. Full-game price, again, for one gameplay feature? $15, maybe. $50? Eat me.

Frontier has to fund development somehow --unlike SC which has obscene amounts of cash by just selling some insanely expensive ship models. Arguably that was a better option because people who are prepared to put that sort of money down for, essentially, a 3D picture of a ship obviously are not that fussed about money, which keeps the game affordable for people who are. But here you have to accept that the original £35,-- got you a year's game play that later buyers didn't have. Like I paid a premium once for PC performance that ten years down the line people can now buy for peanuts. You will always pay less later for the same thing now.

If you're not happy to do that, then wait a few years until Elite Dangerous has developed into what you want it to be and buy then.

How long will this offer be up for sale? I'm on vacation and the store is not working on my phone or the visa is not working on my phone.

I really hope the "boundaries" in Horizons have an in-universe explanation.

I.e. if I fly down into the atmosphere and another pilot who hasn't paid can't follow me, I hope they get the message "Warning: no landing guidance module installed, destruction imminent" and not "Warning: expansion not purchased, if you would like to follow target..."

Similarly, I hope there's a good explanation in-game of why we can land on airless planets but not ELWs etc.

I think your probably correct. I believe the idea is that you will need to transition from supercruise to 'orbital cruise' or something that allows you land (and your machine to load said planet). So you will likely need an orbital cruise module to land, which may just be built into the FSD for ships that are part of Horizons. A non-Horizons player would likely see you disappear as if you jumped into supercruise. Time will tell.

See, I'm exploring the Galaxy right now. I'm out in the big black for just under 2 days on my 7th lengthy trip (2nd in my shiny Asp).

While I'm gone, they bring in planets. But better than that - they announce the new Cobra IV.

OMG!

The Cobra III is still my favourite all rounder. How can they improve on it I wonder. Looking forward to finding out though :)

(also glad they haven't mentioned XBones. Love the PC.)

You pay around 35$ i think because you already have bought ED before. 35$ is fine for an AddOn with more stuff to come in the future already included.
At least this is my opinion.

But the Lifetime Pass is a bit too steep i think. It was 140$ for Kickstarter as the Main Game was already included and now it is 180 when i already have the main game?
(And Paintjobs, Merchandise, DVD, Soundtrack CD etc. for over 200€ )
Also i definitely can't just afford this much money to spend this month.
Half a Year ago i might had paid this much, but i lost a good amount of enthusiasm for Frontier and Elite Dangerous since then.
(Especially with the 1.3 Powerplay announcement and the final "grindfest-for-the-jobless"-product it actually is. And the last of the promised ships suddenly are only "variants" with the same cockpit.)
So i think i will stay with the lowest price option now.

I mean has nothing to do with the story of this game. Not this particular "episode" of this game. The whole game.

Yes I'm one of the old age not-grown buddies who played Elite, FE2, FFE and bought ED because wanted a modern version with astounding graphics and billions of stars to live in, not a first person race game or worse, a first person shooting game on vehicles.

I love the idea of planetary landings, exactly as it was on FE2. I don't see the point in having GTA into ED by having gunfights on the ground while driving a 6-wheel-drive rover on a rocky planet.

On board ship movement is another thing which is only cosmetic, and utterly USELESS in game. The point is, I'd like to see cosmetic improvements AFTER core improvements, like, as I said, passenger cabins.

You have no idea what the planetary landings will be like. All you have seen is a CGI trailer. Why not chill your boots a bit? You made a hell of a lot of presumptions already, based on nothing.

Instead of living in the past, and trying to preserve this odd ideal of what you think the game should be like, in an industry that has moved on 30 years. Instead think to yourself, if you did land on planets, why wouldn't you walk round and explore? and in that situation, why wouldn't you be armed????

More importantly, why wouldn't you want to????????? Its not like you can't still do the other things in the game. And we don't know what else will be added yet either. However, please, keep your blinkers on and stay with the naysayer crowd that always pops up on the forums. On every forum.

It's pathetic that people who don't own the game and buy Horizons will get full access to it and base ED when the thing launches. Hell, I would rather wait two years and buy the last season update with everything included than to pay 50£ every 12 months.

Time to show a bit of real loyalty to your early supporters instead of thanking us for the privilege of giving you money.

Damn. Agreed! =\

Not played for the last five or six months, this looks interesting, but CGI smoke and mirrors is a bit of an FD strong point. So far the development seems to have been quite slow and mostly uninteresting this year, at least from my own point of view. Hopefully as more information about this expansion (which as I predicted back in December would be Q4 2015) becomes available it will paint a fuller picture with some new depth and make it worth returning, till then I will continue to keep a very interested eye on things :)

£50,--? Most of us have spent more on a good night out. Let's keep perspective.

Planetary landings: will they be instanced like Unkown signals?
Will there still be no story and "no point" to play other than to fly a space ship and err... fly? I got tired of Elite too fast due to lack of story and social interaction...
Thanks for any answer in advance :)

This is all we know so far:
We're beginning with airless, rocky worlds – places where a great deal of new gameplay can take place. These are planet-sized sandbox environments, with all sorts of things to discover hidden on them. You'll find surface starports, crashed ships, mineral deposits, hidden bases and more.
Whether that translates into some rich dynamic content, or repetitive pointless gameplay, who knows.
But I'm willing to spend the $45 to find out.

Ok, lets try it again. Does anyone know a Date until you had to buy Elite, to get the Cobra MK IV? Cause i am really looking forward to an upgraded Cobra. Cause i bought my Game + Lifetime Pass shortly before the first Lifetime Pass offer did end.
