It doesn't apply to the Xbox.

Michael

Does this mean that this content will never be coming to the Xbox?

Also as I recall when I bought the game I got it within the first week of it being released on Xbox and I don't recall there being multiple purchase options available. ie: premium content or normal beta. If this content is coming to Xbox will it be included in the preview that I already bought or will I need to buy something else with it such as a season pass?

Also is there going to be and option on Xbox that we could buy that would get us the lifetime updates?

I do find it a little insulting that essentially we are buying Elite Dangerous all over again to get Horizons. Surely the new content should be a cheaper add on price for those who already have the game. I'm affraid the 'limited time' £10 discount doesn't cut it now I've read that. Other games make you buy the base game and the expansions one top which means those who already have the base game get to waiver the cost of the original game. We somehow have to buy it again!

Ok, lets try it again. Does anyone know a Date until you had to buy Elite, to get the Cobra MK IV? Cause i am really looking forward to an upgraded Cobra. Cause i bought my Game shortly before the First Lifetime Pass Offer did run out.

If you bought the base game at any time, and then buy horizons, you get the Mk IV when horizons launches.

If you just buy horizons, no MkIV

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be available to pre-order on our store today, and I’m very happy to announce all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount off the Horizons retail price. Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever. It’s our ‘thank you’ for your faith in the game, and you’ll see more of the Cobra Mk IV in Friday’s Peek Of The Week

As i wrote above i bought a Lifetime Pass, when i bought the Game shortly before it was released. So i should get Horizon anyways. MY question was more what the definition timewise of first year is. If they mean the first year since release, then i am fine anyways. But the way you write it, i should get it then i guess. And ofc. Horizon without paying for it extra.

This bit has me confused. If you own the game + spend £40 on it you'll still have to spend another £30 for Horizons?

What's the £40 for, if not Horizons? Ship paintjobs? Not sure I understand.

The idea is that of the £40 list price for Horizons, £10 is the base game and £30 is Horizons. Since you already own the base game, you're not charged that £10.

Yeah, but remember how some games work. Some have multiple-DLCs which means your buying extra content again and perhaps again and that content could easily add up to the cost of the initial game or more. Or they combine multiple DLCs into a seasons pass. Sometimes they offer the season pass without any prior knowledge of what DLCs might be part of that season pass.

So Frontier is basically offering a seasons pass called Horizons which effectively combines some number of updates which are not entirely clear at this point. They aren't really doing anything any different than any other game developer.

As for the pricing, that is for individuals to judge for themselves. Myself I'm part of Alpha, so I get it free, so my opinion on price probably isn't worth much. Even without the free Horizions, I've been playing ED since January last year and I'd be okay throwing in 30 quid for another years-ish worth of content. That's my two cents.

Now folks who have bought ED in the last, say 6 months, now have to pay again...yeah, I can kinda see where that would hurt. But companies can only do so much to telegraph their plans. At some point someone is gonna buy something at the wrong time.

Now I really feel duped. This should have been disclosed when the game was released.

Seconded. If I'd been told that I would have to pay almost the full cost of the game every year for new content, I wouldn't have bothered.

I'd happily buy content if it was reasonably priced. I'd think nothing of dropping £10-15 for new features, if they were properly fleshed out and if the core game had enough depth that I wanted to keep playing. But this pricing model is just disappointing :(

I'm guessing that not just any old ship will be able to land on a planet without some kind of module fitment i.e atmosphere re-entry shielding/computer etc...

Can't wait!!
I see...so it's £39.99 minus £10? bargain. When i think of the amount of time i spend on ED (and will spend in the future) it's value for money.

(Especially with the 1.3 Powerplay announcement and the final "grindfest-for-the-jobless"-product it actually is. QUOTE]

I take absolute and immediate offense of your description: "grindfest-for-the-jobless": Whatever you're opinion of the game, try not to let your personal (offensive) opinion of fellow Commanders who have more time to spend than perhaps you would like for yourself, show in your comments. Not everyone of the "jobless" are "liggers" who laze away their carefree days "grinding" at the game, I love it! I do not think it a grind, as I play "intelligently" and IF it became a grind, I'd first examine my play style before lavishing the invective in FD's direction! (BTW I am a graduate and run my own business, and also allow my colleagues to load up every half hour with their Power Play Military supplies...always a way round the "grind" as you put it). I'm a tax payer and have never been jobless BUT certainly do have sympathy for the majority of my fellow citizens who find themselves "less" a "job" for whatever reason. I ask you to think before using such an emotive throwaway comment such as "grindfest-for-the-jobless".

In our workplace we don't feel that we "grind" but we ARE having a contest to see who can stay PP Rating 5 for the longest (difficult) ..... I've been Rating 5 for two weeks now:D

Depends, i mean if you look at WoW yo uahve to pay for the addons which cost about 30 Euro when they are new, and you have to pay per month for the game. So depending how often they release stuff you ahve to pay for, it is not that much.

So (Michael) Seasons:

You are essentially saying that these are not really expansions, but a 'yearly upgrade pass'? If it is going to take you 18 months to 'finish' planetary landings, does that mean that you will have to buy the 2016 'expansion' (say, walkies, just to have something to hang onto) even if you have no interest in walkies, just to get landings finished?

So, do you want it or not?

Perhaps, but
a) I don't touch WoW or any other subscription game
b) It may not be 'that much' to you, but it's a couple of weeks food budget for me

£50,--? Most of us have spent more on a good night out. Let's keep perspective.

My perspective is that buying all expansions since I bought the game will cost me a couple of nights out. Nights out I won't have if the money go to this obnoxious pretence of loyalty when it's nothing short of scam.
Oh, I got perspective enough, buddy. I just value my money more than most people willing to sink 400£ on a freaking incomplete game and promises.
