(Especially with the 1.3 Powerplay announcement and the final "grindfest-for-the-jobless"-product it actually is. QUOTE]

I take absolute and immediate offense of your description: "grindfest-for-the-jobless": Whatever you're opinion of the game, try not to let your personal (offensive) opinion of fellow Commanders who have more time to spend than perhaps you would like for yourself, show in your comments. Not everyone of the "jobless" are "liggers" who laze away their carefree days "grinding" at the game, I love it! I do not think it a grind, as I play "intelligently" and IF it became a grind, I'd first examine my play style before lavishing the invective in FD's direction! (BTW I am a graduate and run my own business, and also allow my colleagues to load up every half hour with their Power Play Military supplies...always a way round the "grind" as you put it). I'm a tax payer and have never been jobless BUT certainly do have sympathy for the majority of my fellow citizens who find themselves "less" a "job" for whatever reason. I ask you to think before using such an emotive throwaway comment such as "grindfest-for-the-jobless".

In our workplace we don't feel that we "grind" but we ARE having a contest to see who can stay PP Rating 5 for the longest (difficult) ..... I've been Rating 5 for two weeks now:D
Lol! Come on listen to yourself! Perhaps he should have said: Hugely enjoyable fun for a small minority who have such small levels of real life through their own choice and may or may not be employed, if they are they are clearly not excelling to levels that they have the potential too and if they have no employment then they have been able to continue to fund this lifestyle in the face of reducing welfare payments. Is that better? Either way it sounds like you need to get a life or a job, but perhaps you are a 65 year old retired widower in which case crack on and have fun if that's what's floating your boat!

What he's talking about is that it's been explicitly stated by Micheal in this thread that if you don't own the game now, and you buy ED:H for £40 in December, that gets you the base game plus the Horizons expansion. Whereas if you do own the game now, and spent £40 on it at any point pre-December, if you then want Horizons it'll cost you an extra £30.

Ah.. ok. :)

This makes me think about the early years of computing when CD-Roms (the hardware that is) cost 1000-2000 SEK, and nowdays the cheap ones cost less then 200 SEK. Am I going to be bitter about the fact that I was one of those who purchased at the time it was expensive?

Nopes... I simply helped pave the way.

This is similar, in a way, but, I am not going to waste time being bitter about it. Never... :)

I'm that happy about this I bought the pre order today. Love the game love all about it. Can't please us all it seems but my concerns over subscription may be unfounded. Thank god.

Oh, also

now THAT was a truly epic crappy teaser ...

i wish it's simply frontier didn't want to waste valuable development effort on demos, shows and marketing. yeah, not a very rational wish, i know ...

whatever. looking forward to it!

You can't have taken a look over the fence at Star Citizen then. Frontier are publicity-shy wallflowers by comparison. But then, Frontier have a game.

Actually, for new players, it essentially is free. From what I've heard, they pay the one fee of $60, which was the same amount as the standalone game before the expansion, and they get both the game and the expansion. I'm not saying I'm against paying more money to support Frontier, but if some people get it for free for no good reason while the rest of us have to pay for it, that's a bad business decision in my opinion.
According to FD's logic, new players are getting ED Season 2, but they missed Season 1 forever! Season 1 which was largely a bunch of bug fixes and missed opportunities if you ask me.

Yes, I realise ED got a lot of new stuff during "season 1", and all of it will translate to "season 2". I just mean new players won't really miss anything. But that the way it is anyway: a player who buys a AAA game for $15 dollars six month after its release will enjoy it just as much as the player who bought it for $60 on day one.

Ok, I'm not sure I'm making any sense here, but I don't mind new players getting ED+Horizons for about the same price as the base game, sorry, "Season 1". As for the $40 price tag for current players, well I guess a full year of free updates can't be really free. There's no secret here, teams and servers have to be paid, and ED business model pretty much boils down to the same as the classic subscription model, except with classic subscription MMOs you have to pay for expansions too. So that's about fair in my book.

Ten years ago I paid £500,-- for a set of two 2.4Ghz AMD Opteron CPUs. Five years later I paid £70,-- for a dual-core 2.4Ghz Intel Core CPU. Such is life in computing: to get stuff now is more expensive than to get the same stuff much later. You pay for early access. :)

PC only for now. Mac will be later.

Michael

Will Mac be later in the same way it was before, where purchasing the game once was good on both Mac and Windows? Or will the version I can preorder be exclusive to Windows forever, and if I want to play on my Mac I have to buy the game again when it becomes available?

Just want some clarification. Thanks!

Exciting news so i rushed to the store and placed my pre-order, i'm surprised to find a download button next to Horizons. This appears to be a Launcher download but Horizons isn't available yet ? If i download it and it just gives me Elite Dangerous does that mean i currently own two copies of ED and if so, can i run both on my pc and thus have a 'second' character ?
Now that would be useful! Someone answer this please....

- not official btw....

but your ED in-game account is tied to your store account so, no. It's just an additional link to the same launcher, which will likely be the same if you have horizons or not, the toggle will be handled in-game depending on the account you log in with.

Mmmm...

I'm not buying it now. The way it is written in the usual FD style we don't actually know what it will be or what you will get. We were promissed time and time again the mission system would get an overhaul etc... but to me it seems it still is very bare bone go to point A -> B and back to A or kill X amount of type Y ships. Rince and repeat.
We got powerplay but this is a whole new minigame with basicly the same simple mechanics. To make it worse there is no logic or connection between the powers in powerplay and the 3 major factions. CQC is another minigame added to keep people busy but again this doesn't add any depth into the main galaxy.
After one year we got 2 extra modules which don't immerse you in the game but actually kill the immersion because a system can now be controlled by the FEDS while a certain Aisling Duval is in charge according to the powerplay map?
I can't get my head around how bad a great concept like powerplay is implemented and how little they added in terms of content to the main galaxy. Players can not expand into inhabited worlds and populate them.... build stations etc... without the devs 'deus ex machina'-like intervention.
I waited 1 year to see if the game got any more depth but it seems to me it only got wider and the 'depth' many people are asking for remains the same.

Based on this i believe the expansions don't gonna add any depth but more grinding on a different level. Instead of scooping minerals or scanning 'new' planets.... we are gonna do the same but this time on a rocky planet and once you get over the initial excitement of your first 'planet' landing you'll soon discover they all look the same and you'll be doing the same stuff over and over again and i'll wait to see if the next CQC update brings any major improvements to the missions system.

Sorry for my sceptisicm but before i put more money in this game i wanna see some love for the basic mission system/professions and some love for new types/variety/interiours of space buildings. If i'm traveled 500 lightyears i don't wanna end up in the same bare-bones interiour.... where only the colour of the lights and welcome message on the entrance gate is different. I traveled from empire to federation and i end up in the same place... Sorry but my immagination can't do all the work in this so-called sandbox. In the end a circle will always look like a circle....

btw. i do think the game had a lot of promisse but i cain't follow the devs logic so at this point i don't care about 'future' plans and expansions.
I understand that many people find this game exciting or fun or relaxing but for me it is a huge time-waisting grind-fest.

I think Horizon as well as other expansions are tied to your account so regardless the launcher you download you will get the same software installed, so if you have the game already installed soon or later the client will just update the game to New Horizons, no need to download the whole game again, expansions get installed on your current ED installations probably, that wouldn't make sense to have to download the game again at every expansion, it's all unlocked on the account I guess

Whats £40 quid anyway.... i got loads'a money :p

I spent more than that on Ale this weekend.

Lets face it unless you work in some fast food outlet it's not really a big issue and even if you do, you could borrow it off you Mammy.... :D

This game is worth it. I spent more hours on this game in the last year than most games over the last 20 (expect Orion 2, now that was a game).....

So investment wise it's a winner.

Braben your getting my money, so spend it well my friend, spend it well
