Any tips on getting prismatic shields?

I am going to get prismatic shields. I've joined up with Aisling Duval.
I understand I need to wait 4 weeks, and gain a set number of merits.
Any tips, or advice would be appreciated guys.

I am getting them now. The advice here is good. Especially Kevin...Prismatics are kind of an "end game" thing. If you have not worked on engineering the supporting components first, I'd do that.

If you actually want to get involved with a community of ED players that are active in Power Play under Aisling, you might want to check this site out. (They are also on SLACK)

There is a lot a player can do within PowerPlay when you are working with other people who are organized to do coordinated stuff within the game. I had a lot of fun with these guys when I was active in this last year.

As far as the Shields go... They're okay... Pretty heavy though. I only use them on my Python which I don't fly all that much anymore. My main battle ships all run with conventional A rated G5 engineered shields. Ironically, most AD folks do too! ;)

Yeah I was gonna post, but I guess I didn't take that from what he was saying. Well said though ;)
Of course new sign ups are welcomed OP, you can find the application here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AislingDuval/comments/39om53/aisling_slack_group/
It really is a great community, with no pressure or expectations of you to devote all your time, while full of all types, happy to help and talk about every aspect of the game.

Though honestly if you're only in it for the shields before moving on, there isn't much point in joining a group like this.

I have read online that after you defect from powerplay, you lose any prismatic shields you had in storage.
is that still correct? Or has that been fixed now?
I also read that you can buy programe materials, for around 7.5mil and hand them in to get to rank 3.

Just curious...the powerplay stuff just opens a window for you to be able to buy these modules, right? If you do not maintain it, then the window closes. So you keep whatever modules you purchased, but you would need too meet all the requirements again to buy new ones?

Correct. Buy one of each ship size and upgrade the shields of each one to prismatic, so that you have the full set from 1A to 7A. Plus a few spares.

Do: Use the four weeks pledged to earn a ton of cash. You'll need it.
Do not: forget to earn merits during your last week. You must be rating 3 (at least) to buy the shields.

Do: Earn your merits in a responsible manner. Undermining someone is fine. Fortifying something is probably okay. Fortifying something over 100% fortified is definitely okay, if wasteful.
Do not: Earn your merits by Preparing random things. This really sucks for the Power you're pledged to.

Do: Feel free to check the Power's community for a "what to do" while you're pledged.
Do not: Use the "what to do" list as a sort of anti-suggestion and do the opposite.

Do: Be aware that people may shoot at you for your Powerplay pledge.
Do not: Take this personally if you get shot. Feel free to use this time avoiding human contact.

Do
: Seriously, come prepared with a lot of cash.
Do not: fall for people who tell you to get tons of every size. Huge ones are expensive as hell and you probably won't have multiple battle-Cutters. You probably don't need many 1A or 2A or 3A prismatics either.

Thanks for the invite, but I am only looking to get the prismatics.
So as you pointed out, there's not much point in me joining a group.

What you definitely need is:
- At least two Class 7 prismatics - these are used on Corvette and Conda.
- At least two Class 6 prismatics - these are used on FDS, FGS and Python. Although not very popular, some builds can take advantage of them.
- At least two Class 5 prismatics - these are used mainly on FDL, FAS and (in upcoming patch) Chieftain. Again, such builds aren't that popular (except probably FDL), but some people use them.

Class 4 and Class 3 prismatics can be used on trade ships in order to gain extra shield strength. Class 3 can also be used on Courier, but you may need a godroll G5 overcharged PP for it to function.

If you have a lot of cash (and you should), buy one Class 8. These are used on Cutter and T10.

Class 2 and Class 1 prismatics are generally worthless - seriously, who would want to put a prismatic shield on Sidewinder or Hauler?
