Any way to read the visited systems log?

When I first started this game back in 2016 I was playing on a potato laptop that I replaced after 2 months or so. The original 2.1 game is still on that laptop and hasn’t been updated.

There are a few systems I visited during those first few days that I’d like to find again. Is there some way I can get the log file and find out which systems I visited? Perhaps using ED Discovery or other third party program? If so, if someone could point me toward a guide I’d appreciate it.

Pretty sure you needed to have verbose logging turned on back then. I'd have to manually turn it on after every patch.

You would have to go into the App config file and add

VerboseLogging="1"

Did you not take screenshots back then whilst exploring? That's how I managed to salvage a lot of old systems from my early days exploring

Thanks! I’ll see if I could do that. As far as screen shots. I should have. As soon as I find the charger to my old laptop I’m about to fire it up and see what’s on it.

Ah sorry mate, I meant you would have had to turn it on back then, if not the game wouldn't log your movements. Really was a pain, I'd keep forgetting to modify the xml file after each update.

These days it is all automatic, the journal logs everything for you automatically

Oh, in that case it might be lost but hopefully I at least will have several screen shots.

I just fired up the old laptop and found a lot of files titled "netlog." when I opened them I get a lot of text like this:

The cool thing is, "system" is there with star system names. With these logs is there any way I can use ED Discovery or other program to process them into a readable travel log?

I don't know about the log, but it's handy to set the star map filter to "visited" and colour only the "unvisited" ones. Apply that filter to route plotting for maximum cartographics payouts.

Yes, give EDDiscovery a go - it should pick up all those files and process them. You should then be able to export from there to EDSM.

There's also a feature somewhere in EDDiscovery that can process your travel history back into your in-game "visited stars" map filter, after reinstalls/new computers, but I can't remember where it is since I haven't needed to use it for years.
