Anyone else bothered by the lack of proof-reading on GalNet News?

That being said, i wouldn't mind hearing some socio-political discourse from a 34th century green skinned page 3 girl...

when asked her views on the indentured servitude undertaken by the aptly named "imperial slaves", trixie emphatically responded, "y'know, i think, like, all slavery is bad"

Surely by 3300 everybody would be speaking text speak like all the kidlets do now, and use fogies have no chance in understanding a damn thing!

Correct Yoda, I would not. Unique character, he is.

What I am saying is those Galnet reports are not BBCnews reports. They are made by a probably empire-born correspondent and they can use any style they like as long as it is consistent

I just took another look at the Durius Defaults article in-game, and it has been changed since my original post. It now reads:

Senator Denton Patreus announced today in a press release that the government of the impoverished Durius system has defaulted on the loan he provided in 3294. The Senator has given them 24 hours to make the overdue payment or action would be taken.

Also, the article entitled "Emperor Sickness Worsens" has been changed. Here is the original text...

Rumours are spreading that the Emperor's illness has taken a turn for the worse. Speeders carrying medical experts have been seen going to the palace, and inadvertently last night an Imperial aide confirmed that one wing of the Imperial Palace has been turned into a hospital.

Critics of the Emperor have said that he should have taken genetic therapies long ago, and he would have lived another fifty years, but the Emperor has always believed in clean living and avoided medications, drugs and narcotics. Those same critics have blamed him for his rebellious son's descent into debauchery in his early years as a response to his father's "puritanism" as Harold called it at the time. Others have pointed out that Harold would have rebelled whatever, and some say this explains Harold's stance on slavery.

And here is what it says now (I have underlined the changes)...

That is much better.

If these changes are related to this thread, then I would like to thank the writer(s) for paying attention. I hope this is a sign of things to come. :D

There have been several changes across multiple articles. I would like to highlight two of these paragraphs that were changed and then I think I will be done with this topic...

-----

From "Federal Warships Bomb Farms", here is the original paragraph (the same one I used as an example in the original post)...

Local news reports show this not to be true. A whole family has been found dead, overcome by the noxious fumes from the burning of the ripe crop in their field tent, and the image of a burning warg (a deer-like creature with big eyes, probably imported as a pet by one of the settlers) running from a burning field, has spread through social media, especially within the Alliance, spreading hatred for Federal Forces.

And here is the new version with the changes underlined...

From "Emperor to Marry Sweetheart", here is the original paragraph...

This would make Arissa Lavigny, his illegitimate daughter with Helen next in line for the throne, given Harold, his son, has been declared 'not of sound mind', as Imperial rules on wedlock and legitimacy are retrospective. Under Imperial Law the marriage cannot happen for 30 days to allow people to lodge their objections.

I know it might seem silly to get excited over this, but I'm just glad that something is being done.

Thank you, again.

I think it portrays some reality. Do you ever watch or read the news irl? Filled with typos and inaccuracies of all sorts. Hell if GalNet news is actually true then theyve got one up on a few faux news stations I can think of.

Grammatical errors indeed, however this feels more like a dictation of a spoken news source rather than an article. I think if these were spoken it might sound better than it reads.

Not sure if this constitutes "necro-posting" (or whatever the term is), but I've just paused my game to say that I certainly am bothered by the lack of proof reading.

I know we all make mistakes but this is supposed to be a news channel. Hmm... I was just going to say newspapers make very few mistakes (and they have MANY more articles), but when I typed 'channel' it made me think of the BBC. <shakes head in dismay>

Anyway, we now have "here government" and they still haven't fixed "stand ideally by". I now read the GalNet pieces as much for spotting mistakes as I do the news. (It's a sort of sad in-game mini-game I play!) :)

I don't think they have anyone fully dedicated or experienced for the Galnet/ content task, plus with more player submissions coming in I'm not sure they're proof-read either, just taken verbatim.

Very. It shows complete lack professional quality standards. If anything of that quality went public in any job I've done in the last twenty years, then the persons responsible would be looking for a new job. That includes writing the menu in a tea shop,

fwiw, I think that typos and poor grammar are acceptable in GALNET as they are an accurate reflection of many news outlets irl. However, I think typos and other errors elsewhere in the game should occur far less often and be ticketed/corrected when spotted. To answer the OP though, 'no' it doesn't bother me...

This has been happening for a long time!

GalNet, Newsletters, Facebook updates, you name it. Every FD communication channel is littered with grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes.

It's poor form and annoys the hell out of me! You shouldn't have to spend time trying to decipher or interpret poorly written prose.

I want ED to be the best it can be and these constant and avoidable errors erode that hope bit by bit.

Encouraged by the fixes highlighted but would be disappointed if they've only been fixed due to tickets being raised. They shouldn't be happening in the first place.

ED for Life!
:)

No different from the real news then?
.
I don't see many inflammatory headlines so they are one step better than most websites and their 'click fodder'
