Anyone else hunting for new US/Thargoid sites? Added candidate sites

The Ongoing Hunt for new Thargoid Sites.

Yes there are possibly still more sites to be found, their are gaps in the TS site network in the Pleiades (which got me started on this thread in the 1st place). Although currently (6/20) we don't have any candidate systems, their is the remote chance of uncatalogued or unscanned RBs with thin ammonia atmospheres out there, or maybe the odd system we've overlooked!
Since I started this thread 13 more Thargoid sites have been found (none by me! lol), none of them were linked by the original batch of 217 sites.

If anyone is searching, lmk what systems & bodies you've already searched.
I was building a list of candidate systems, along with criteria for finding others too, using spansh.co.uk

Update note for ED 3.3, the paragraph below regarding searching by eye is now obsolete, use the surface probe scanners to check for any new sites, much better and quicker! :).
Old info left for reference.

Old search method (belatedly updated 15/9/18 for v3.0-3.2).

Since ED v3.0 they recoloured the RBs, they look real nice now :) (& more realistic too I think), but it makes it harder to spot TSs. Additionally their seems to be some kind of graphics bug where the yellow/green colouring of the TS site is missing when it's nearish to the horizon, e.g at TS 229 at 250 km altitude & 20 degrees away it is a little black crater indistinguishable from the rest. At 250 km alt. still, but 15 degrees away, it is clearly visible as a yellow/green TS. This RB is 1377 km radius btw. This does slightly cut down our viewing range compared to 2.4 & earlier.

I choose a longitude, start from a pole, supercruise my way up/down in 25 deg (for a little overlap) latitude steps*, & drop out of SC at each 25 deg step to eyeball the area, up to the other pole.
Then change longitude by 25** deg & repeat, altitude at ~250 km. You only need to go to each pole once (as at each pole you would've seen out from it 15 deg in all directions), you need to go within 25 deg of the next pole though (which makes the last step an odd number. e.g starting at ~90, then 65, 40, 15, -10, -35, -60, & lastly -65, hmm not ideal!.....)

On the right hand side of your ship's HUD, the latitude is the top number & the longitude the bottom one.
Also suggest dropping to 100 km in the terminator zone (light/dark zone), as it can be very difficult to see TSs at 250 km in those mid light conditions.

*I haven't tested this in v3.x on a sub 800 km moon yet, so it's possible bigger steps could be taken on those.
**May need to refine this number for v3.x

An interesting point that Cmdr Zaratan mentioned regarding searching :-
3) If you think you see one, point towards it and enter supercruise. If it's a Thargoid site it will mostly disappear, as these sites are much bigger out of supercruise. If it's a normal crater, it won't change.

CANDIDATE SYSTEMS TO SEARCH :-

Candidate bodies - No candidates currently

As all good candidate systems have been exhausted (AFAWK!) within 150 LYs of Merope. The patrol was targetting weak candidate systems, so the ACW may not be obvious (e.g the ACW ammonia is a minor component of it's atmosphere, & so the world isn't labelled as ammonia atmosphere), all the ones listed in LCUs patrol list have been searched.

HIP 22460, but it is a permit locked system, & is a system that has been linked from another TS, so it certainly has a TS there, and although it is in Canonn's 3d map, it isn't linked to other TSs, even though it is linked to by other TSs, odd!

Record of new Thargoid Structures found

9/10/17 - 3 New TS sites found by tonio-gmnh!, 1 of them was in my candidate sites! :)
27/10/17 - And he's found a 4th one!
8/11/17 - And he's
found 5 more!! Awesome!. Oh & 1 was a candidate system :), other new candidate systems found by Tonio, & weren't in EDSM etc.
27/1/18 - Shockbot found TS 227 at Pleiades Sector DG-X c1-11 A 3a, was in beta 3 only at 1st & not in 2.4! congrats
31/5/18 - TS 228 was found by Aegis Eagle Eyes, see Factabulous's post.
6/9/18 - A new TS was found by Eagle Eyes way out in an Outz system. Currently not listed in Canonn's list or 3D map.
19/12/18 - TS 229 found by Thepirateorc! Congrats:cool: (It's the 1st TS system whose ACW is a RB with a thin ammonia atmosphere).

SEARCH CRITERIA for finding new candidate systems for TS sites in the 'Merope bubble'
(might not apply to TSs in the Outotz area) :-

Rocky Body (or rarely, HMC) landable body for the site ..................................... 1st 160/229 TSs checked, so far just 7 of those checked are HMC. (See my stats list in the spoiler at the bottom).

Have at least 1 Ammonia Containing World in the system .................................. 227/227 TSs. (See Canonn thread 10).

Max 0.42g for the site body ......................................................................... 227/227 TSs. most are below 0.3g (97.2% of 212 TSs) (See Canonn's spread sheet).

Be within 150 LYs of Merope* ...................................................................... 227/227 TSs, max 149.9 LYs. (See Canonn's spread sheet).

Temperature range for the site body 78-246k** .............................................. 227/227 TSs, most (97.3%) of the 1st 221 TSs are within 101-231k. (See Cannon's spread sheet for details).

Very probably on a moon ............................................................................ 220/227 TSs, 96.9%. (See TS 3d map).

Very probably the ACW is a GG-ABL*** or AW ............................................... 220/227 TSs, 96.9%. (See my stats list in spoiler & Klumpozyte's spread sheet. Just a small minority of TS systems have a WW, HMC or RB ACW, 7 all in, 4 listed here).

Very often the nearest group of (the above spec) bodies to the ACW ................ 102/1st 140 TSs checked. Although it seems if the ACW is orbiting a B star, then the TS site is usually nearest the A star.

*Since v3.2, the 1st TS was discovered outside of the Merope bubble, approx 1400 LYs from Merope! Seems to be a one off.
**The TS in the Outz system smashes this limit by 126k! Seems to be a one off :p.
***Thanks to tonio-gmnh & bagofholding for highlighting that. And thanks again to tonio-gmnh for listing the 4 ACW WWs.

Notes

Major news!
7/9/18
A new site has been found nearly 1400 LYs from Merope!!
Flagged by Eagle eyes at Outotz ST-I d9-6 2a (the system the Gnosis was stranded in), the moon is 126k over the previous highest temperature TS body found!
Is this a new bubble of Thargoid presence? [update] Nope. Are criteria for TSs different in this area?? [update] Unknown. Is this a one off? [update] Yep.

Looking at just TSs 140-160 (so far) & the 'not nearest groups', it seems where they have a choice, they'll choose a body which is nearer to the middle of their gravity range (possibly around about 0.25g) & a little over the 1/2 way mark of their temperature range (roughly 150-200k), please note these are approx figures taken from studying just 25 TS systems.
I'm thinking that the only real reason they rarely choose HMCs is because they are usually hotter!

Acronyms
GG Gas Giant, WG Water Giant, ABL Ammonia Based Life, AW Ammonia World, WW Water World, RB Rocky Body, HMC High Metal Content world, IB Icy Body, RIW Rocky Icy World, ACW Ammonia Containing World, TS Thargoid Structure (formally US Unknown Structure),

Thanks to Maligno for giving me this link, [now dead :(], https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...cHsMiEsawcCQP4EokUqNyLLzVwk/edit#gid=67861076, to Klumpozyte's spreadsheet, & thanks to Klumpozyte's for making the spreadsheet :), which as well as giving candidate systems, showed that none of the original 217 TS sites are on icy bodies. (I've PMed Klumpozyte on 24/6/20 to see if he can fix it, but TBH I doubt we'll hear from him, as the last time he was seen in these forums was 11/17 :().

Thanks to tonio-gmnh for the additional candidate systems which I'd incorporated.

And thanks to LCU No Fool Like One for an interesting graph of TS distance distribution, post here. It seems the baulk of the sites are 15-25 LYs away from each other.
Thanks to Baton, Rixaeton, tonio-gmnh & LCU No Fool Like One for their help :).

Notes
Of the 7 TSs on HMCs I've revealed so far, 4 of them have no landable RBs.
The 3 that do:-
TS 111 has it by the B star & is ~14k Ls away from the arrival point, the HMC is A3.
TS 149 RBs are also further away from the ACW than the HMC.
TS 151's RB (B2a), going by orbital position (& not Ls, as EDSM has some odd data there!), means it doesn't get as close to the ACW (A6) as the TS planet (B3) does.

Seems the Thargoids are quite happy to use an HMC over a RB, if the HMC is nearer to the ACW.

I think most of them have been found. I know you can find them using an UP, UA and UL, put them all in the thargoid central room to make the magic happen, then drop them in space and some more magic stuff happens and the UL points to target bodys. The alien thread is probably the best source for this.

All the linked one's have been found AFAIK, I'm talking about a semi blind search for unlinked ones.
It's not totally blind as we know they're all (so far) within 150 LYs of Merope, must have at least 1 planet or moon within the system with Ammonia, be a low g world (so far the highest has been 0.42g), & the highest temp is 243k.
Although I am searching 1 candidate body with a temp or 283k (didn't notice until I got there, thought I might as well search it anyway).

Thanks for the link :), but I've already posted there ;), I only got 1 answer & the trouble is that thread just moves on too quickly, hence this thread.
Do you remember, even roughly, the name of that thread?

So anyway, anyone else 'brute force' aka eyeball searching planets for US sites?
(Added my list to this thread).

One thing I had noticed on the systems we have found, which might be helpful to narrow the search, is the body with the US is the one closest to the ammonia atmosphere world in the system map which meets the temperature criteria. I have not seen an exception to this, but i have not checked all of the known US worlds. Using this rule might save time in only having to check one body in the system.

... unless there is an instance where this rule is found to not apply, in which case.. carry on :)

You listed 29 candidates on Pleiades Sector RO-Q b5-0, but they are mostly icy bodies, all US I found were on rocky bodies I think, please check. Don't ignore the temperature, 283K is too hot for sure, their ammonia blood would boil ;)

Ah, interesting! Thanks guys, I will definitely check that out :).

Hey Baton, I don't suppose you managed to dig up the names of the systems you've searched? Now that you've recovered (I assume, lol) from the hangover? ;)

[update]
Rixaeton
Doesn't Aries Dark Region DB-X d1-63 (US 002) break that idea? Ammonia world is orbiting the B star, over ~433k Ls away.
It's the only 1 I've checked so far, will check more later, even if it's only mostly true it could help :).

Update 2, regarding US sites.

Rocky body observation/theory - checked 12 so far, all confirmed
Observation/theory of closest (in system map), landable, within temp range, rocky body to Ammonia world - checked 12, 10 confirmed (1 that isn't, isn't by much, only the A8 moons could be considered closer, US is on A7 A. The other is way off).

Btw, if anyone wants to help me check out the 2 theories above, I'm using EDSM & the Cannon 3D map to investigate, I've started at US 001, about to do 012, having lunch soon & then I'm out for an hr or so. Take your pick, there are 217! :)

You may be right... I would need to check if there is any ice at all in the surface composition. Even if it is a rocky world traces of ice seem to keep the US away. Like James Bond, Thargoids may like it with "no ice". It will be good for me to check when I get back [1] so I can scratch that theory... but it opens up more worlds for checking :)
The "closest in the map" may be a long way away if the other bodies have ice, or are not in the correct temperature range.

BTW: My favourite candidate systems which I have checked but not found a US are:
WREDGUIA YH-U c16-3 2 Ammonia world. -131, -15, -341: 144.46ly from Merope. 53ly from US001. Near direct line between here and US001 and Merope:
[x] WREDGUIA YH-U c16-3 1 Rocky 199k 0.24g Note: Anomaly Threat 4 UA encountered.

HIP 19761 AB 1 Methane rich with 33% ammonia AB 3 0.5% ammonia 139.81ly from Merope
[x] HIP 19761 AB 2 1: Survey: 10° longitude interval polar eyeball survey at 100km (650km)

I would hope to find a US in or near these systems as they are in the "gap" in the spherical map of the known US systems. As some US sites are cut off from the network due to collapsed map rooms, there may be systems to complete the sphere which are not referenced from any other known US.

Cheers

:D
I know you asked me few times. I am very unorganized person, so I do not have such list. I would need to give you my entire flight log from the period I searched, and you would have to figure out if I searched something there, or went for a beer in the garden etc. This would be quite a task, so better stick to trying to find something out there than in my logs :)
What I can tell you is I was using this list to search candidates a lot https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...cHsMiEsawcCQP4EokUqNyLLzVwk/edit#gid=67861076
Then I searched in the south region a bit as there was quite a few bodies not in EDSM yet, but no luck. Again, no records.
Being unorganised, even if I checked the system I cannot tell you for sure that there is no US there, maybe I missed it :)

I did stop looking about a month ago, first because I think we found them all, second - I did find one US by eyeballing, I am happy with that, so I think it is good to give other people a chance as well.

Lol, ok, no probs :D, & thx for the link :)

Re US sphere, that's what I'm thinking, I'm in the top 'hole' atm.
Re your theory, certainly not dead, just not 100%, as per my prev post, 10/12 confirmed :)

update 1 - 14/14 confirmed for rocky bodies
11/14 for nearest to Amm wld, but 2 of the negatives are damn close to being the closest (US 014 is only 3 Ls off).

update 2 - ok I'm going to adjust the nearest rocky body to Ammonia world theory, to nearest group of rocky bodies (so far, moons of the same planet) to the Ammonia world, that changes 2 of the no's to yes, making 14/15 confirmed. That's after finding 3 systems which follow that idea.

update 3 - I've just found another clear no to the nearest rocky body grp to an ammon world (only 2 so far), interestingly the 1 that is nearer has volcanism, is it possible they are avoiding volcanic bodies? Makes sense!
Doesn't explain ARIES DARK REGION DB-X D1-63 though......... maybe because the Amm wld is orbiting the B star, the US A star, being nearer the A star means it's nearer the Amm wld???

Well, US 036 (HIP 20486 A3A) has proved an interesting one, it's the 1st one NOT to be a rocky world! It's an HMC world, & it busts my idea about them avoiding volcanic worlds, as it is!

So far 37/38 US sites are on rocky bodies, & 34/38 are in the nearest rocky/HMC group of bodies (moons) to the Amm atmosphere/wld.

Right, I'm going to stop for now & actually play ED ;), I've done upto US 038 if anyone wants to carry on in the meantime.

Baton
The temp at the planet I at atm is only 37K over the current max, are you sure that's too much?
Btw re that 29 moons system, they're all icy! So I've removed that system ;).

Don't mistake me for an expert, but I would not waste my time on anything that hot. I did search one that was only 10 degrees over the limit and came emptyhanded so after that I decided to stick to known thresholds. Bare in mind when I started looking for brain trees I was told the limit is 209K to 340K, and I stretched it to 202K-496K so do not believe everything people tell you, blaze your own trail :)

I'm on an expedition looking for signs of Thargoid (or any other spacefaring civilisation) activity in the neighbourhood of all the more distant permit-locked regions ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/364376-Journal-The-Aronnax-Expedition ). I'm not eyeballing planets, however, partly because of an intermittent terrain generation / graphical glitch and partly because I don't think much of it as a mechanic and don't enjoy it. It is a tertiary goal of my expedition to find sites with life/volcanism so I would like to do some looking after meeting my other objectives - but I've never yet found anything on the surface of any world without already knowing that it was there and having precise co-ordinates, be it Barnacles or bark mounds... . Unless I see something like Ancient Ruins in the left hand panel or get interdicted, I am not going to notice anything. Thanks to @Baton I know what criteria to keep an eye out for, though, so if/when things are working I can investigate in a fighter.

Fair enough :), btw the info for the criteria wasn't given just by Baton ;) (unless you meant he pointed you here).

If so, lmk what systems & bodies you've searched, oh & btw check out my sig, I'm building a list of candidate systems, criteria for finding others too.
I have checked if they're on the known sites list, they aren't.

And let us know how you search planets.
Atm I choose a longitude, start from a pole, & then work my way in 35 deg latitude steps (drop out of SC to eyeball the area) to the other pole, then change longitude by 35 deg & repeat, was ok with 700-800 km moons anyway, not sure how large a body that'll be ok with. Oh, altitude at ~250 km.

[edit]Just as well copy the info from my sig link to here.... (might re-direct it here later).

I checked about 150 from the 3D map, most are less than 0.2g, the highest I saw was 0.42g, could be another way to eliminate some candidates for searching :).
Checked all 217 USs now, the highest is 0.42g.
(btw their were 2 entries with 'no planetary data available').

Search criteria, systems needs to have:-

Rocky (or rarely, HMC) landable bodies - (38/38 counted so far, just 1 of those is an HMC)
Have at least 1 body with Ammonia in the atmosphere in the system - (All 217 USs)
Approx max 0.5g for site body - (highest found so far 0.42g, 217 USs, 215 checked in 3D map, 2 have no data in 3D map)
Be within 150 LYs of Merope (All 217 USs have been within this range so far)
Temperature range 79-246k (most ~120-200k)(215 systems checked in 3D map)
Very often (34/38 USs counted so far) be the nearest of the above spec body to the ammonia containing body

Thanks to Baton & Rixaeton for the help :)

Candidate Systems:-
Pleiades sector JM-W D1-52 (2E a likely candidate) (less moons listed below, 9 left! 52 LYs from Merope)
Mel 22 Sector XR-H b11-1 (Just 1 landable! :), hmm temp is 283k, maybe too hot....)

Planets in Systems searched:-
Pleiades sector JM-W D1-52 3G, 3E, 2G,

*****************************************************************************************

Only candidates if any USs found on icy bodies! (kept here JIC).
Pleiades Sector RO-Q b5-0 (29 landables here!!. Perfect place to hide the Thargoid HQ! ;), just 19 LYs from Merope too!)
Pleiades Sector HH-V c2-1 (Just 2 landables, 63 LYs from Merope)

President Trump is watching you, if you are hunting US assets. :)
