That 12 million figure, do you know if that is inclusive of the Epic giveaway? I think it probably does. I'm guessing a large proportion of those are likely no longer player or multiple accounts.
Anyone else see a pattern here... What do you think is going to come next?

Yes, it does. But it was an 'official' figure from the only source to actually know, Frontier.
Particularly as it included any other VR game. I play another 5 games in VR often, along with EDH / EDO, they are great fun.
Still, an interesting number of responders, well done OA.
ETA: I don't think even Frontier would know if a player is in VR or not, unless there is some telemetry in the game to sense and report on the mode being used. I launch ED from Frontier's own launcher, then steam VR is called from a comand line switch.

I did claim an Oculus Store key, so they could get a conservative figure from people that did that I guess

Sure, wasn't a point of contention. Just think it further illustrates how we can't know players numbers, even with official figures.

I agree - I have a total of 5 accounts (only 3 active, currently), know another player with 10 which are all active!
I'm almost sure that another 'official figure from Frontier' was that there are a half million players active each month - which I assume was on all released launchers. If I could remember when they said that I'd try to find it, but think it was sometime after the Epic giveaway.

You do realise that 12 million is copies sold, including the 8M units shifted on the free week, and that Frontier have previously stated that the game has ~500k active players, so the 34k that answered the survey is 6.8% of the active playerbase.

Out of curiosity, as a southpaw, what controls do you use? Have you been able to find a left hand hotas, or do you fly dual sticks, or persevere with a conventional hotas. (now I've listed all those options I betcha you are a Keyboard and mouse / gamepad player)
Warthog HOTAS while flying. Razor NAGA left-handed mouse when in the hanger/driving menus.
what i seen on vr games, doesn't impress me one bit. Has a person who has a head tracker, i get move fun and can watch every ting by just moving my head than watch a pair of hands floating around a screen, after all it a game not a life situation
