Newcomer / Intro Anyone else using the SRV as a tank?

Given that you fail the entire combat mission if you die, I've found myself using the SRV as a tank. Between the shields, gimbled guns and such; I'm struggling to find a reason other than salvage to get out of the SRV

Umm.... first time they blew up the SRV (it got stuck on something).... why do I lose the mission for a telepresence SRV?

Nevermind. I'm simply not going to do the combat missions in their current state.

I get DC'd, I fail. I die once, I fail. a Remote SRV blows up, I fail. Just going to skip them.

It isn’t a telepresence vehicle which is why you can get out of it, the turret on top of it is telepresence but that is it.
So when they blew up the SRV you were in it as much as you would be if they blew up your ship or your suit.

The only telepresence vehicle is the Ship Launched Fighter.

Despite my previous decisions I did try a couple of combat missions.
They're hard, of course, because I suck, but there are tricks to it.

As is always the case - spacial awareness is key to everything. You're always outnumbered and here I found out all the practice from Mass Effect multiplayer (which I always played alone) very useful.
Don't get surrounded, kite your enemies, use environment to limit your angles of exposure, use higher ground,...
It's doable.

Yes. NPCs have chicken brains, they can circle a building to surround you, but most of the time they just go after you in a straight line. Use it and herd them into corridors and around corners where you can slaughter them one by one. :)

Issue I found with that is the grenades they each throw down said corridor.

Okay the important part I forgot to mention is that THEY are supposed to be in that corridor, not you.
Had the corridor and T room and such and the grenade has sufficient blast radius that it doesn't matter. Damages through pillars and blocking objects

Weird, that's something that might be worth filing a bug report.
Actually that was part of why I was asking you folks. I just have my, mostly negative, experience with the ground combat to go by.

My experience is this:
As mentioned, I am always outnumbered. Given how much ammo it takes to down a single target, this is very much a problem.
They will spam grenades that have enough blast radius that I cannot run away in time once they land. Said grenades seem to mostly ignore
cover that isn't an actual full wall.
Given the grenade spam, going inside buildings is basically suicide. This removes a fair bit of cover from play.
Even if I manage to win, I get respawns even after the mission is listed as complete. I know it's not spawning security forces
since they all have bounties on them, just like the scavengers. They appear to have a requirement to spawn near me and frequently right on top of me.
I have tried settlement raids, repair missions, ect. The effect is the same.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm required to use the SRV in order to clear the initial wave given the stock gear not remotely being sufficient for the missions.
Now; I did look at some of them and the raids are grade 4 but the repair missions are not. Yet I'm running into the same problem for both.

Does any of this sound out of place?
Chris mentioned the grenade behavior sounds wrong. Anything else?
