Anyone experiencing invisible planets in SC until you get very close to it?

Arnt these just dark planets, and rightly so.
If you cannot see stars then something is in the way

Hmm... No. Take any system in Odyssey (4.0), target preferably a gas giant an watch the bright dots on the skybox wander off from your target reticle until they magically disappear and sometimes jump around before disappearing. Your target will reappear just when you are close to it. Also magically...

Now switch to Horizons (3.8) and do the same... you'll notice the difference immediately...

I always thought the Horizons behaviour was a bug due to me running it in WINE.

To be honest I always thought that small white dot was stupid, I'd be happy if they got rid of it completely.

They're not all bright white dots, especially if very far away. :D
Correct - Uranus and Neptune are the two I’ve never seen, but I’m pretty sure the rest looked like bright white dots last few times I looked up 😁

Anyway, FDev agree it’s a valid bug so hopefully the planets-sticking-to-the-skybox problem will be fixed in the future.

Well I've always thought Saturn has a very slightly beige off-white look to it...

First time I'd played ED in months the other day, and this was one of the first things I noticed. I don't mind small, dark, distant planets not being visible (or planets seen only on their unlit side), but I'd prefer to see ones I'd expect to be able to see. And given that neither - small dot all the time, which could sometimes resolve in to something darker and harder to see when it was more properly rendered, vs. disappearing and reappearing - is realistic, I'd prefer the former.

After spending some time to observe the effects of the issue while weighing-up the costs to resolve it, we have decided to focus those resources elsewhere. Reducing or preventing the planets-sticking-to-the-skybox problem would require a deep-overhaul of fundamental systems, which in turn would disrupt other aspects of the game. This would inevitably take time away from developing and improving other elements such as performance, bug fixes, and new content. We cannot justify this level of change and a re-generation of the galaxy in Elite. This is unlikely to change in the future so the issue will be closed, freeing up votes on the tracker for other issues.

I should make a meme of it some day.

Can anyone confirm if this bug is still present in the newest Update 13 that released today? I don't see a fix in the patch notes for it. Getting kind of worried that Frontier has ignored this bug yet again.

Just went in to check, it's still not fixed! Planets line up with the orbit lines at first but then deysync as you super cruise while appearing to be glued to the skybox. Back to Horizons again for me!

Hard to be immersed in the story they have going on when space feels fake as heck because of this bug that can be seen in literally any session of normal play...

Now come on, be reasonable, why would they prioritize a fix for a galaxy wide bug like this or their game not running at all with the latest AMD drivers for a few months now when they could be fixing proximity lights on the anaconda incorrectly triggering. You guys are getting far too crazy with your logic.

That is highly disappointing. I will not touch this game again until this bug is fixed. It completely destroys the immersion, especially in VR.

Somehow I am not surprised, yet still disappointed. I am wondering how long is this bug going to stay with us.

I will play some other games while FDev decides to fix this as there is nothing else we, the players, can do at the moment.
It’s all the more frustrating since the issue is there in the Tracker, it is confirmed but the only thing we can do is pray and hope FDev actually does something about this at some point in the future.
So we have at least another 3 months of invisible planets in front of us. In a space game.

I noticed this happening, but it was before the shutting down of the servers. I noticed it around the same time they were releasing the messages about starting up the big weapon deal thing. The planets were also not showing in the system map, or the navigation panel. Only the planets very close to my ship were showing. I know this, because I tried targeting 7C or something, and couldnt. So, my guess is this isnt due to the update, but has something to do with how those messages/event was being deployed. I also guessed this was only happening in HIP 22460, and thought it was actually part of the event. Maybe after this week, it goes back to normal?

I did not have this problem before update 13 but now I seam to be having this more now even when going to a planet orbiting another one shows but not the other.

Right!? It makes no sense that this bug isn't prioritized. I dealt with it for months EXPECTING it to be fixed with this update. Unbelievable.
