Found a wrecked Anaconda with a small data cache ~9K LY from SOL. System: TRAIKEOU NI-T D3-78
I've found 6 caches on my outbound trip so far (2 Large & 4 small). I will continue to search for them as I continue my exploration. It seems to be interesting that I find small caches in the wreckage of such a large ship...
I hope FD changes these SW so that the items are not stolen. For the exploration data caches, it would be best if you could just download it to your ship and sell it as exploration data when you got home. That way it wouldn't take up any storage space.
Great, thanks for the report! Added to the list
I agree it would be nice to be able to analyze the canisters in some way rather than have to scoop and bring them all the way back to the bubble.
Perhaps some kind of data extraction mod that can analyze any data caches you find in your hold (like a "refinery" module of sorts for data caches). This could then create a finders bounty entry in your transactions tab that you could claim in a similar way to claiming combat bounties.
Currently 12kly away from Sol, wreckages stopped to appear, last one was at 7300... Maybe there is a cut-off point after all...
Maybe, though it might also be that it's not only distance from Sol, but also distance from the nearest POIs such as nebulae or similar.
Hopefully the more data points we get, the more it'll become clear
The cut off point needs to be much closer to the edge of human space tbh.
Finding ships, cargo and wrecks so far from populated space is a bit unrealistic given the amount of stars/systems there are.
Well, it might not be too far fetched. Looking at the points on the
ELW map Nicomak put together, there's a definite concentration of data along common travel corridors.
I wonder if rather than just a simple cutoff from Sol, they're also using visited system routes or POIs (or rather, the nearest distance to) to determine spawn rate.
At the very least, what I'm hoping to see from the data we gather here is to establish whether finding a particular type of signal at some distance X is significant or not. If it's out of the ordinary, then it could mean there's an area worth exploring in more detail.
