ANNOUNCEMENT April Update - Coming 23 April 2019

Resulting into what exactly?
Imho as long as someone has fun playing a game all is good no?
I don't care wether a player use the new autopilot thingamabobs or not, I have fun my way they have fun their way.
The new modules only add more options to the way you want to play, which is a good thing in my book.
Agreed but I’m upset at the fact that it will most defiantly reduce the advanced player base

So? That's THEIR game, why does it concern you? As soon as they get to buying a new ship, without those modules fitted standard it's decision time.

Either learn to dock and supercruise for yourself or sacrifice something else.
But as people have said earlier, people like it easy and if the easy way is doing that and the hard is not having these new modules then people won’t want to play

Has there been any info/clarification on if the new slots being dished out are regular internal slots, or (ideally) a new type that allows the DC and SCA to be housed, but not yet more HRPs (for tanking)? (eg: Basically "Utility" slots if you will).
Paige mentioned it was noted, and under consideration on a recent livestream.

True but there are training missions that deal with that, I myself hated the fact it took forever to dock but found it amusingly funny to watch my ship skid along the ground. I agree with everything you said here but they idea of a mindless drone player base appeals as much to me as a french snail dish.

Then don't think of them as people, think of them as slightly more advanced AIs (that maybe get stuck in the mailslot less often) ;-)

All I’m saying is this new cruise assist is more likely to do harm that it will good

In your option perhaps. I disagree. I think anything that can keep players in the game for that first 15 hours without rage quitting is a good thing, so they can see the great gameplay behind the game. Not everyone in the world will have your patience/sense of amusement when they crash every time they try something, and there's nothing wrong with recognizing that and giving people time to learn new skills.

But keeping the player base is as much as a concern as it is to getting new ones
I do not see why it should decline just because new players will use assists for some time or even forever. Personally, I do not care if someone uses docking computer or will be using SC assist. I will play the same way as I play now. With the added benefit of one or two free slots :)
Blaze your own trail, you know ;)
PS: In your logic there should be no FA ON mode at all. Because it is too easy to fly with it and no one will. This is not true, obviously.

my “logic” is that this play will become boring not about realism of flying in space and it may not effect you and that’s fine after all this is aimed a new players which is why I am concerned, creating a possibility of a fully automated R2D2 ship is unlikely to attract a new player base.

Of maybe 35 ships, only 2 or 3 have a DC because they are the only ships that are useless enough to fit them. A Hauler and an Adder I use for super cheap, long range tow around taxis. There's nothing else in them so why not. No guns, no cargo, no SRV and it's mildly entertaining watching the thing dock itself.

The other is a super light, novelty cargo Python for smuggling rep missions in Sothis / Ceos. I didn't care about the last cargo rack so it got a DC purely for [redacted] n giggles. All my other ships are so crammed with useful stuff I could really do with an extra slot or two for, guess what, MORE useful stuff!

How about you stop worrying about the lazy newbs and play your own game, your own way ;)

If they're supposed to be optional then don't make them standard issue or give them extra slots so they can fit them ontop of the current load out.

Better still, don't make them modules at all, simply make them an on/off switch on the ship panel, like Lights or Night Vision. And like those, just because they're there doesn't mean you need to use them...

Well, ED has a bit in common with the realism of space flight. The ship behaves more like a submarine or airship than a spacecraft. If you want realistic flight mechanics - welcome to aviasims like DCS\X-Plane\MSFS for the atmosphere or Space Flight Sim\Kerbal Space Program for the space.
I believe that significant amount of players appreciate ED for its beauty and a lot of other exciting things in it and care less about any kind of "realism" in flying non-existent spaceships contradicting laws of physics as we know it yet. ;)

I understand your concerns, but cannot agree. Time will tell. :)

But but but then it won't be Dark Souls in Space anymore and I won't be awesome by proxy when I mention I play ED.

realism of flying in space

WAT

You do realize "realism of flying in space" would imply humans wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the controls? We're getting there with self-driving cars beating human drivers and it's not 2020 yet. Fast forward an imaginary thousand years of AI development and I guarantee you WE are the performance bottleneck.

But since we're having this Han Solo space trucker fantasy, sure, let's allow players to do the interesting flying bits. The dead boring routine busywork? Good riddance I say.
