Notice April Update - Known Issues (24/04/2019)

Ah, yes that priorities thing. It seems to happen to me on log in and drop out from SC (but, oddly enough, jumping from system to system does not seem to affect it - at least not that I have noticed so far).

Hello Commanders,

We have been monitoring the feedback you've been making here on the forums, across social media and on the Issue Tracker. We wanted to give you an update on some of the concerns and bugs that have been raised.
  • Drag Munitions
    • Based on your feedback, we will revert the change that we made to Drag Munitions, changing them back to how they worked prior to the April Update. However, this is something we may look to revisit in the future.
  • Frame Rate Issues
    • We believe the cause of this is down to the 'FX Quality' setting in the graphics options. We're currently investigating a fix for the issue, but would recommend lowering your graphics settings in the meantime.
  • We are also investigating fixes for these known issues:
    • SRV damage multiplying when in multiplayer sessions
    • Module priorities resetting
    • Shield module turning on (after previously being deactivated)
    • ‘Restock All’ quick option not functioning
    • Buying/selling commodities is now faster – whilst using a mouse it will incrementally speed up, and when selling it will default to the maximum amount you have in your hold
We are not able to give you an exact date on when the patch with these fixes will be deployed, but aim to release it next week. As mentioned, investigations for these fixes are ongoing so times are subject to change.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Thank you.

I am relatively-new player and this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd patch I've gone through, but most certainly the biggest one in terms of change log.

The thing I cannot "unsee" once considering the bugs that were introduced is that it looks like just major lack of care, personnell etc. which would be simply unbelievable for a product of this caliber and the clientele it already has. It's tough to think something like the priority modules and the 10cr restock (just to name two?) were not seen in even a simple quality-assurance test before patch deployment.

The worst part is that my real-life experience (+age) makes it terribly hard to find reasons other than the horrible ones I mentioned above. I really, really, really want to be wrong but I do work with companies (gaming companies as well) who do have young people, seasoned people, different teams etc.. and.. well we don't want to get into that discussion. I like to think that my experience has been terrible and I am biased.

Please, Frontier Developments: don't be "those people"! You are capable of projecting a good image of your team and their hard work, from the outside.. do the same from the inside (much harder, I know, especially in the social-media era)

Shortcuts in this (or other business) don't pay off, we all know that.

I am sure they will be releasing the fix this week, as they stated. But bear in mind the amount of pressure now is unbearable as everyone is looking at them (I would never want to be put in this situation in my daily job.. no matter the money!)

Unfortunately, Frontier has painted a picture of a company not being interested in stability of their products in any way.

There are bugs - not glitches - still present for months if not years.

There have been months in which there was constant complaints on a daily basis, then a fix which was commented in the way of 'we just discovered' - which in turn led to user comments like 'how about playing your own game once in a while?'.

Elite is a wonderful thing. Quality management by frontier is not.

I second your notion in asking Frontier politely to raise their quality standards. The last update was a joke, most people I encountered are not anticipating updates but planning ahead in terms of not using Elite for a week or two. To quote one: "I am not here to beta test their updates".

So...

GOOD WORK @ ELITE, FRONTIER DEVELOPMENTS!
... not so in making sure your users don't lose ships by reset modules after an update and other frustrating stuff. You can do better.

Thanks Mitch, it's one of those topics I'd - for the love of me - like to be wrong. But again, life experience tells me otherwise and I am - guilty as charged - never been a good optimist.

I've been amazed time after time at how things like these can happen, and the sheer chain reaction these things cause. Which goes against everything a company owner would ever want, no matter their purpose. "good" or "evil", it doesn't matter.. the effects are disastrous and take away more than you gain. But then again, it did happen in front of my very eyes for teams I've worked with, and it was terrible.

I don't want to hide because it's clear that the length of my posts reveal this is touching a sensitive topic. Suffice to say it's paramount that this free fall is inverted and things go back to the level they deserve.

You have such a wonderful thing, Frontier Developments, that MANY people in the world would simply dream to achieve. Be it graphic designers, CEOs, music composers, coders... heck I even know doormen that would love to have a shot, ONE shot, at working at your doorbell. Most of these people are also very young and looking up to the world and you. Don't throw it away, don't be "those people" again.

Thanks for letting me write freely and I hope I did not offend anyone as this is by far my intention.

(...) Thanks for letting me write freely and I hope I did not offend anyone as this is by far my intention.

You did not. I'm here since four years now and once in a while only I find posts like yours, respectfull to the hard work of hundreds of people working in Frontier Developments plc, while complaining so emotional about the product those people providing their customers with.

I'm more than sure they trully deserved a loyal customers base, as Elite Dangerous is a masterpiece indeed. And as in any complex piece of code there are and will always be various bugs there and there.

What makes me worry though, I have the impression the success of their games - especially Elite Dangerous which has no serious competition on the market at the moment - is a bit overwhelming for them. I think they need to catch up with maintaining such a successfull product they created. I'm sure they will, as they know well how to do business and such impressions as yours are simply bad for business in this industry.

And please, be sure our developers are very passionate about this game. Browse through the officiall You Tube streams of theirs, where they invite their lead specialists (e.g. audio, physics, background simulation etc.). I'm an entrepreneur myself and I'd kill for such a dedicated and passionate about their work people to work in my own company.

Also, the executive officers of Frontier have to be geniuses, they made this company what it is now in the last 6-7 years or so, while being totally independent and financially self sufficient throughout all the time.

We are witnessing something totally unique here my friend. I think you're aware of this, especially you claim to know the industry. Give yourself some time please and you'll enjoy the hell of a ride with the rest of the Commanders here. This is probably once in a lifetime oportunity. Flying among the stars like most of us were dreaming about decades ago.

Thank you for your input here and welcome to the void Commander! o7

Fly dangerously out there! ;)

That sucks. Probably gonna put the game on the shelf now. Oh well. That was fun for the 5 minutes it lasted. No defense against fast moving griefers now thanks to shortsighted PvE merchants who refuse to better themselves, now everyone who engages in PvP in open gets punished. Well done guys ruining other peoples fun as per usual.

The vast majority of the PVP community was against the drag buff. I was in favor of using this clearly OP and game-breaking mod to temporarily break the game and see what other balance issues popped out in terms of the weaknesses of defense utility slot options, but only on the condition that it would be reversed a week or so later (which obviously was always going to happen). Anyone who thought this was a good buff that should stay in the game was clearly not paying attention. Either that or they were trying to shift the meta to ships that were less impacted by engine PIP loss.

Not sure what u want to say here, but as many covered here, Drag buff. as proposed. would not defend u from fast moving griefers as u put it ... that would be the case only in one scenario. where "fast moving griefers" dont have drag wep, and u have them .. which is total fiction .. if this drag stayed in game ALL ships would be "forced" to have drag wep .. and u would still be much slower then "fast moving griefers", just on Minimum Engine Output levels whit out boost ... we covered this several times now ... dont rage just because u dont understand how things work .. and if i misinterpreted something i apologies, like i sad in beginning. ur message is not really clear to me

Yes it would have certainly shifted the game so that some ships would be less impacted and still relatively faster by a similar ∆v. But it would also slow down the game, not just in relative terms, but in absolute terms like the ability to go so fast (in terms of traversing deg/s of firing arc) that turrets wouldn't be able to track would be virtually gone from the game, allowing turrets to become more effective and hence countering the speed advantage a bit. Adding a ubiquitous omni-snare to the game seems like a very strange and round-about way to address a more global balance issue though.

Here we go! Patch announced!

Not sure if anyone else noticed or if the sound default settings changed, buy my hired Figher Pilot won't talk to me any more, just see responses to command on the screen notes only, nothing verbal anymore.
Yes, same problem here. She responds to orders (attack target, hold position, dock fighter etc) so is still fully functional as part of the crew but is totally silent whilst doing so.

I have a female pilot in my crew (kudos to her for bearing with the horrible conditions we're currently working at) but she does talk normally as in "roger that, commander.." or "all hostiles eliminated" and "they're trying to escape, commander" etc.

She was hired way before the April's patch if that matters.

My pilot was also hired long ago and prior to the April patch was chatting away happily. It seems something in the patch has caused the lack of natter. (glances slyly towards wife, wondering if Frontier would be willing to share the secret).
