Are legs advocates happy with what they got?

Except that isn't all we have either. Odyssey brings us the beginnings of atmospheric planets, and it also adds many more things to do that does not involve shooting. They didn't take 3 years just to create a First Person Shooter. Odyssey is far more than that. Shooting is only a part of the experience.
I'm only talking about FPS. Anyway I believe that most of the devs time went to FPS that explains why we didn't have planetary tech in the alpha... because it was, and still is not, ready yet

Of course I am.... Why else would I say it? Combat is at least 1/3rd of ED, if one doesn't shun it in preference to shooting flowers, or hauling Biowaste 🤷‍♂️

Of course, there are other opinions available, which may even agree with your own, but if you have not played the FPS part because someone told you it was pants...

Incidentally, it isn't all FPS pew-pew... But prejudices run deep here!
Ok... enjoy the pew pew on legs then... I'm happy for you if you're satisfied with FDEV choices. We're probably playing two different games

Just curious. :) Personally, I've always advocated that E: D should be about spaceships, but here we are.

I get that the launch is a mess, but apart from that, are you leg commanders happy? Has it been worth the wait and effort?
I'm somewhat satisfied, but I would also like to have what Braben talked about in his vision for Elite Dangerous during the Kickstarter campaign.

The ability to walk around your ship, board other ships, repel pirates attempting to board (or having already boarded) your ship, running around and repairing damage, being able to go "big game hunting" on an alien world, seeing people loading cargo on/off your ship, etc... Those things would have made Odyssey my dream legs implementation in this game.

I mean, if it's the only game you've seen and played since elite 1984, I guess it's very awesome and impressive.
So in an objective sense it's a AAA title because of the graphics; emissivity, subsurface scattering materials, incredible lighting, Etc, and because of the AI's use of cover and team play, which is commensurate with the standard AAA shooters (all of them have weaknesses, ED's is the broad view, comprehensive goal pursuit, etc).

Subjectively it's because while I LOVED Jedi Knight 2 and beat it legitimately and Halo 1 and 2 beat both on Legendary (3 only on Heroic), in the end those were both too high APM and too low TTK.

Just not a high APM player despite a brief stint in my early twenties, playing Warcraft and Halo seriously.

I'm a down-to-earth kind of guy and I prefer my games that way too. Pun intended.

Jedi Knight, Warcraft, Halo 1-2. Yeah I understand now.

Odyssey graphics aren't even remotely close to groundbreaking this days. They are very ok. The physical engine is almost non existent, and we don't have destructible anything. As I said, very ok. Not bad, but certainly not good either.
Just 5 minute on any recent battlefield game and Odyssey will be left crying in the corner in that regard. And those game run absolutely fine on my GPU, Odyssey doesn't.

AI is dumb as a rock. They swarm you, and only use cover if they are sharpshooters. I literally use it to my advantage by pulling them to me behind a crate, where I murder them with a shotgun.

If you want to compare to shooter of the same era, I suggest you don't. Odyssey is going to lose in almost every way possible.

Just objectively wrong. Have you even played matches?

They swap in and out of cover depending on range and shields, come out when you are flushed out, stand by to allow someone else to check your cover, etc. Standard stuff nowadays in AAA shooters, notable when found in indie shooters.

Didnt say graphics were groundbreaking, said they are AAA. Meaning on par with recent games. Objectively true, check out graphics programming techniques such as I mentioned. It wont use every single new advance but no games do cept very rarely. Crisis, etc.

The lack of destructible physics is a loss, certainly. Ground particles etc.

So graphics and AI are AAA quality, meaning on par with modern releases. The extra point I give is subjective, due to its daring foray into high TTK territory which is very niche. (High TTK as well as low APM, there are a decent number of high TTK and APM titles).

And a second point, just to clarify the use of the term modern. We both agree that modern doesn't mean the games I mentioned, and it obviously doesn't mean only the most recently released games. A typical time frame would be perhaps two to four years? Perhaps only 3 years.

The techniques considered here would be things like the upgrade to bit rates able to support 4K, HDR, super sampling, on the fly gpu-based texture and mesh modification (tessellation, deformation, Etc.), screen space stuff (AA and shadows), etc.

By that common metric, ED is objectively a AAA game.

I think the lack of destructible stuff and complex physics is mostly down to it being competitive multiplayer so any destruction has to be shared, and in a world that's near-infinitely gigantic you can't store this stuff on a server. Also why Thargon movement is procedural rather than "proper" swarming or whatever.

I'm not particularly a FPS person, but I'm very much a stealth person, loving things like Thief, MGS, Deus Ex, Dishonored etc... I think the stuff in Odyssey, and particularly the way all the security systems work, is actually up there with some of the best of that stuff. It's not a specialist stealth game, but considering everything else that's going on at the same time, I think they've done a pretty great job.

Battlefield do that. Space engineer do that, and then some. And the database store already a lot of stuff, like if you drop a cat meme on the ground. It would just be about storing it until the settlement is reset. Not forever.
It's not impossible at all. Now, I know why it's not there (it would take time and effort to make it happens).

But since we are comparing it to the genre, it's only fair to note its absence.

Really ? No way to hide a body, to hide yourself besides crouching, no hacking camera and whatnot, no "non lethal weapon" (the only one is considered lethal), no silent back attack, no security hacking to turn aumated defense against NPC, no way to make a diversion (noise machine, remote hacking...)...

I don't play stealth game because I'm terrible at stealth, and I can see plenty of the stuff that are missing. In fact, it's worse in that aspect than Cyberpunk, which is hardly a stealth game, and have a ton of cut content.

You really think Sony/Microsoft would allow EDO to launch on their platforms right now? Everyone knows the answer is a heckin no. Graphics isn't just about looks, which EDO is mediocre in, but performance, which EDO is absolutely terrible in.

As for the AI . . . :ROFLMAO:. EDO AI would've been AAA in the late 90s.

That's unfair with FEAR AI, it was very good.
Technically, it's very similar to Half Life 1. And it was considered good AI back then.

Three of those things definitely are in the game. You can cause diversions With Grenades, you can stand behind walls to hide yourself, and a back attack doesn't need to be silent.

Your right on the performance issue. Not AAA quality release.

You clearly have no idea about AI though.
