Are NPCs now Combat Logging?

I was out last night, with a wingmate, hunting NPCs in an Anarchy system as part of a mission. A mission target showed up and I interdicted it, just as I was about to win the interdiction, the NPC disappeared! Not on scope, not in normal cruise, nothing...just gone. I was not near a planetary body or a star, so no gravitational issues. If this was a one off, I would have suspected a glitch or external factor that I hadn't noticed, but, this continued and happened repeatedly. Not only that, but I was getting spammed with "1 new contact" and then instantly "1 contact lost". I could see them pop up on the scope and then within an average of about 3 seconds, poof! gone. Bizarre!

I've never had a target disappear while being interdicted, but I've had targets change ship between being interdicted and dropping to normal space. Lol

I've also get the "X New Contacts", "X Contacts Lost" spam. It's when a target is spawned, and immediately crashes in to a planet or star. Lol
Happens more often than I'd like.

That's one part of the story. It would also be interesting if this happened in solo or not. We don't have central servers, so all NPCs in a multiplayer environment are handled by one or another players computer. That leads to a number of oddities. Sometimes i see NPCs lagging, rubberbanding or moving in jumps. Sometimes they suddenly disappear. Admittedly this has become much rarer since FD did some fixes on their netcode (yea, i am aware that the term is vague, but it's good enough for here), but it still happens. It might be that one players PC is at its limit, it might be that his ISP has issues, it might be that something in the specific route between him and me is troublesome... finding the actual reason would require tools which FD does not provide to us players, but it can happen.

I mean hey, during some duels i was along for observer and in the middle of the duel both players started to first fire at open space, then tell me to testify that the other one combat logged. I still saw both. For both of them the picture was the same: the other "made a mistake" by not dodging well any more, took a beating (where they for me shot at open space, they on their screen pummeled the target) and the target disappeared just when they reached the "stop fight" threshold. (The duels were agreed to stop attack when hull was at 25%. ) So indeed neither actually combat logged, they just ran into network issues and did not see each other any more.
.
Based on that experience, i am not surprised that NPCs also sometimes show eratic behaviour or disappear.

But wait, what if the NPC just had a storm went by its house or just had a power shortage? Surely you must understand the false positives and must not jump the gun...

I have seen similar things... but in my cases (yeah, I have seen this multiple times), it has been NPCs who wants to interdict me, I see them on the radar and when hitting the 6s limit on approach to Starport, I wait for them to interdict me, only to see them vanish from the radar. Strange.
