Art Direction Concerns

really like the art direction. It is a perfect blend realism and fun. Lets not forget, this is a game not a simulator, it has personality, it is cheerful and gives of a friendly fun exciting vibe. As oposed to a flavourless emotionless simulator. Devs have captured this perfectly. I believe that the simulation side of this game will deliver in terms of realism, RCT 1&2 were very unrealistic, RCT 3 on the otherhand was very realistic in terms of coaster/ride behaviour.

Having said all of this I think that some people here are concerned about scenery and cartony themes, the way we could fix this is to have a default vanila skin for every ride which basically is barebone and enables the users to apply their own scenery.

What do you guys think?

Would be the best option. Coaster already have a similar thing in RCT3, where you have the classic train for that coaster you see in ral life, and then there was optional extra theming, like the bat wings in the B&M inverted.

I love that idea Fultre! Going back to Thrillville, you could theme a ride/ stall after it was placed down by tick options so maybe that is something that will be in PC?

I think the overall theming will come from the player adding bits over all.

And as said before, I personally adore the art style of the game, I feel it perfect for the genre. Programs like No Limits look great but I also feel they look dull at the same time, there is a thing as too real, games like this need to have charm. RCT1/2 has a lovely feel of simple, yet charming animation. RCT3 went into 3D but kept that look and the way the guests acted, even with the fact you can tickle them with the mouse, I loved that. It felt charming (keep using that word). I feel Planet Coaster has nailed it, absolutely nailed the style on this one.

You have to look at The Sims in the same way, we have seen EA do some pretty nice, realistic looking games, but The Sims isn't the kind of game where that works. That is why is has kept the style it is now.

So yeah, love the art style, love the way the guests are, how they drop the glasses on rides and spill drinks. Love it all!

Having too complicated guest models and textures means that rendering performance won't be as good, the blend of cartoon style not only looks good it also means more peeps and rides can be rendered and how doesn't love more guests? It also fits really well this the genre, The Sims is a good example of this working well

If its done right they wont have the performance mess. So it will be interesting to see what the specs will be but that will come at a later date for sure.
