auto land on planet!

Are the auto landings mandatory? I'm trying to figure why you're so mad about something presumably optional that other players will be using.
He's from the "Play my way or don't play at all" gang.
Yes they are mandatory. If all other methods are a total waste of time and you can circumvent a risky, attention oriented, skill based activity by pressing a button, with no tradeoffs whatsoever; then yes that button is mandatory.
You can argue, if you want, that it’s good that ship landing has been reduced to a button press and that none of the previously built landing mechanics matter anymore; that’s a discussion we can have. What you can’t do, is handwave away the implications of new play mechanics with a “don’t like it don’t use it” rhetorical dodge. That’s not how games work, that’s not how rules changes to games work, and it’s certainly not how the impact of something like “press E to land” is going to shake out in Elite Dangerous.
If it's optional, and you don't want it in the game, why not just disable it?

A module would at least help give some of us the illusion that there's a reason to bother doing something. 😏

I wish they'd just ditch the autopilot modules and provide all those options as standard in your ship as things you can just turn on an off. Turn it on for new players, sure, but then you decide when to switch them off to gain a bit of speed with all your docking an undocking.

Appreciate it is a call back to the original game and we're meant to be pilots who don't need this stuff, but sheesh, things move on and we already have dismiss and recall for planets. Give people their basic tools and find more intesting module ideas for us to play with.

After auto land feature:
(and yes, i was able to board the ship and unboard again - ship just beamed the SRV up :) )

I like the feature, you can use it or not, up to you, however the annoying voice need to go, only when you deploy the gear should this warning come on.

Where is this feature in the game, please? I've got a docknig computer but have not had the option to automatically land on wilderness planets.

It's in the ship setup menu the second tab and only works if you have the "advanced" docking computer, not the regular docking computer, and it is indeed useless, first thing I did when I launched Odyssey for the first time? Turn that stuff off! In Alpha it used to turn itself back on but that seems to have stopped happening in the live version. Now if only I could get my laptop track pad to stay off after turning it off I would be happy, that's been responsible for a few dramas I tell ya!

I must have missed something, because I thought that was just an additional functionality of the docking computer module. Didn't spot a trigger anywhere, but I regularly disable the docking computer for my surface landings, and the automated landing goes away with it.

nice touch I like it
Whenever I approach a planet on supercruise, it always tries to put me in orbit, and I have to fight the helm or unlock to get into the 'atmosphere'. Am I doing it wrong? If I let helm have its head, will it eventually fly me down to the station? Or is this an Odyssey thing?

no there are 2 different systems super cruse asset will take you to the planet and put you in orbit the landing only works at about 100 feet above the surface after you lower you landing gear

I found it annoying how it tries to take control of the ship, so I turned it off.

It’s optional, and probably helpful for new players. If someone wants to play Odyssey missions but can’t land their ship manually, they aren’t going to be happy. As such,
it’s a good addition.
