Which species then?Actually, I'd probably put the tree kangaroo in instead of the pig now that you mention it. I kept it out because it would probably require a new rig and animal packs tend to be heavy on reuseable models, but thinking about it the only animal there that really needs a brand new rig is the devil (kiwi could absolutely recycle the ostrich/cassowary rig since they move very similarly by virtue of belonging to the same family; all new animations would be in the head/neck). Possibly also the fossa, but I can imagine it borrowing a lot from maybe the cats or red panda/binturong.
Aesthetically they're pretty similar, so either is fine by me.Which species then?
Goodfellow's or Matschie's? I personally prefer the former.
NANI!!?sorry tanuki lovers
I know Japanese loves visiting zoos too.NANI!!?

I prefer Goodfellow's solely due to their presence in local zoo collections, but I'd also be thrilled with Matschie's. The Matschie's is cuter while I prefer the shape and patterning of Goodfellow's (that longer banded tail is chef's kiss), so I really don't mind which otherwise.Which species then?

While it's perfectly fine to have cuteness dictate your preference, I think comparing Goodfellow's to the Giant Otter is a bit extreme lol. Matschie's just plain looks like a teddy bear (they got that quokka smirk) while Goodfellow's is still cute but not "adorable", if that makes sense. And as I said, I think Goodfellow's is prettier in other ways.Matschie’s is substantially cuter, and that’s the most important thing. It being the designated American tree kangaroo species would also be useful for my zoos, but it’s not like I wouldn’t use Goodfellow’s if I had to. I mean, I suffered through giant otters in every zoo for over a year… I just would really prefer the cuter species in this case.
Wait! Did you just make a JOJO reference???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
That's super subjective though - I don't find tree kangaroos all that cute. I don't find them ugly, either, but to me they're sort of plain-looking on that scale (very cool animals and evolutionary fascinating, of course). I find rats cute, though, and parrots, and many reptiles, which aren't traditionally considered 'cute'.Matschie’s is substantially cuter
I saw Anoas with Asian Small-Clawed Otters A strange combination but both species looked happy.Lowland Anoa are an underrated addition to an islands pack I think. As well as being cute little dwarf buffalo, it also gives us another species from Sulawesi to go along with the North Sulawesi Babirusa.
I'm hoping so but I'm mentally prepared to wait longer. Please something… anything… today?!?
My "Island Animal Pack" is one most people probably wouldn't be keen on.
Another three Asian animals.
- North Island brown kiwi.
- Tasmanian devil.
- Raccoon dog.
- Fossa.
- Celebes black macaque.
- Visayan warty pig.
- Sumatran tiger or Sumatran rhinoceros.
- Tuatara.
It has a Tanuki. And if you do switch the pig for the tree kangaroo there are actually packs out there that I would be way less keen about. And a new tiger would mean an actual good tiger, so count me in on that. Not suuuper happy with the macaque, but I'm taking any "monkey" or primate for that matter. Plus, I love that weird fluffy bird.Actually, I'd probably put the tree kangaroo in instead of the pig now that you mention it. Yeah there are monkeys I'd prefer over the macaque but none of them live on islands (and those that do don't have a prominent captive presence like the macaque, and as much as I love it I don't think we need another proboscis monkey situation). I chose the pig because it has real conservation value especially these days, and because I thought "that'll be easy to make out of the warthog", but I think the tree kangaroo is actually an objectively better choice for a pack like this. And yes to the tiger! Though I'm probably one of the only people willing to actually pay money for it in a pack. I just love Sumatran tigers so much.It has a Tanuki. Why not choose the Javan lutung for an islands monkey? There are 24 holders in the EAZA and I think also some in the US. Would be a very interesting species with the two color morphs (orange and black) plus our first langur.Yeah there are monkeys I'd prefer over the macaque but none of them live on islands (and those that do don't have a prominent captive presence like the macaque, and as much as I love it I don't think we need another proboscis monkey situation). Technically my beloved proboscis monkey is a langur just with the big nose and huge amount of fartsWhy not choose the Javan lutung for an islands monkey?
