Interesting post, Abil (the one you linked to), and it very much mirrors my own views (pun not intended) regarding exploring. I am just into Pioneer rank after my last trip, so I expect it will take me a long time to get to Elite (if ever) unless I do take a few passenger missions.
I always like the idea of exploring, and like you, nowadays I'm only interested in DSS scanning full systems that have never been touched. If I jump to a system where the main star is already taken, I honk and move on, and if I don't think I want to scan the whole system, I leave the main star too. I realize this is holding me back a very small amount, but if I didn't have some role play for exploring, I'm not sure I would do it at all. Whatever, I find that after being out for a week or so, I want to get back as the actual gameplay involved in exploring is ultimately very repetitive. Kudos to those that can do it for months (or longer) on end.
The problem is, the reality of exploring for me is that there's really not much original to see or discover. I've got plenty of ELW's in my various trips, and countless water worlds, gas giants with life... Just found a system with three water worlds, and while that's nice, I just can't bring myself to feel it's anything special. I don't do exploring directly for the credits, more as an occasional change of pace, and I like flying my Asp. I do appreciate the rank increase, it's at least a tangible progression /goal.
I too take an SRV, but rarely bother with landfalls, as when you do it, there's just the same stuff to see as anywhere else. Not saying some of the planet side scenery isn't quite wonderful, it really is, but there's only so long I can sit and stare at a mountain on my screen.
On topic, I'll try and pop down to the Bcats neighborhood when I get back. I'd rep you, but I need to spread it around...
Nah... Blaze your own trail and all that...
(I'm pretty sure you were not being overly serious
