Horizons Barnacles!!!

Help! Recently decided to go on the hunt for barnacles.
So far I've found 5. But the spikes are destroyed.
am I doing something wrong or missing something?

Went out searching barnacles last week in the pleiades. Never found one. How did you find five??? Is there a trick? Do i overlook something?
