I have the same issue with my home office chair. The last one I bought was $400 and I can't sit down for more than an hour without getting a numb behind. I used to work for a company that had these:

my first plan was to smack some Recaro CS seats from a car on the old seatstand. but those are pricy aswell.

IMO not really. The desk chairs I got at home and in the office (after lugging a left-over in there) were both close to 1000€, and those aren't even weird designer things, just robust and comfortable work furniture. Having used those for over 20 years without back issues make them money well spent

Doesn't look expensive to me. Keeping your back healthy if you have a sitting job is of paramount importance. Good chairs are pricey, but they also last several times longer than cheap junk. I am currently sitting on a chair I bought in 1998 for its supreme back support. What can I say, I have no back problems and the chair is still like new. The chair was roughly DM 4000.00 (€ 2050.00). But no cool Gutamaya look, unfortunately.
