Newcomer / Intro Be careful what you target .... it could be a Sun!

Here was a lesson well learnt.
I was navigating back to my home base after completing a small courier mission. My home base is Frigaha, and I thought that was the actual name of the base (not the star) I saw as my home. ☹ Of course, using auto navigate, I arrived at Frigaha (the System's Sun) and almost got fried on arrival! My craft performed an auto emergency FSD stop, but even then, I was seriously damaged and my oxygen supply running out fast. Nothing seemed to work so I slowly suffocated to death. 😞
Is there anything you can do in this situation, apart from screaming out HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! which needless to say, doesn't work. Thank you.

EDIT: That my error. I should have said FSD NOT "auto navigate". Sorry about that.

First check your modules list and shut down anything other than FSD, Thrusters, Sensors and Life Support.
I suggest this as it is possible that you have damaged your power plant and it is not producing enough power for all your modules, if you set priorities to your modules the power plant will try to keep priority 1 modules supplied by shutting off power to priorities 2-5 starting with those on 5. If that doesn’t work then.
In your right hand panel on the ship tab I think there is a reboot/repair option this will shut everything down to try and repair any non working systems enough so that they will operate.

Remember you have at least 5 minutes Life Support before asphyxiation to fix this, however your life support doesn’t recharge until you are docked and in the hanger so once you get power back you need to fly directly away from the start to escape into cruise, which might involve smoke and warnings, then head to the nearest safe station as quickly as possible.

Modules should have priorities set to help with power plant damage issues, personally I have
1 FSD Thrusters Sensors Distributor Life Support
2 Shields other defensive modules
3 Weapons mining tools etc
4 Fuel Scoop SRV hanger
5 Cargo Hatch

Thanks RJ. Will do a dummy run with your suggestions now as practice. It's bound to happen to me again.

Once the canopy is blown, you're on life support, no matter what you do.
If your ship can still fly, you can get yourself to the nearest station. If necessary, you can synthesize reloads for the life support - right hand screen, inventory tab, synthesis. Provided you have the necessary raw materials with you.

If all hope seems lost, give the Hull Seals a call. Those are your premium hull repair specialists.

Good advises there, synthesizing oxygen, power priorities, etc... definitely something to focus on in the future.

Nonetheless the easiest way to be prepared for situations like this is:
1) buying a better life support - the higher the rating of the life support (E is the worst, A is the best) the more oxygen it can provide. A-rated LS has, I think, 25 minutes of oxygen. that is plenty of time to learn how to navigate without a HUD and get to safety.
2) Reboot your ship! The option of restart and repair is hidden in the right-hand panel. Every time your ship breaks, this is the easiest way out. Field maintenance units, power priorities, it's all useful, but if you just want to get your scrap together and limp back home, rebooting your ship (which will partially cannibalize the healthy modules to patch up the broken ones) is the quickest way out of a situation like this one.
3) Heatsink launcher. A gift that won't stop giving if you have a habit of driving into stars. ;)

I need to look at this more carefully. Just give me a bit of time ...... ;)

I don't use the supercruise assist myself, but I'm surprised that it didn't orbit the star instead of crashing into it. Not a particularly great assistant if it does that.

I've edited my OP post (#1) to correct my mistake. I was in FSD not Auto Navigate (SCA, whatever ....). Sorry about that.

If you fall into a star, switch off all unnecessary modules before attempting to use your FSD. That means switch off shields, power distributor, cargo hatch, weapons, utilities, mining equipment, nav aids and other optional equipment. All you need is FSD, PP, thrusters and life support. Line up your exit before switching off sensors (star directly behind you). That will substantially reduce your heat. Often you can get out without taking further damage.

After getting out do remember to power up sensors otherwise you can’t get docking permission.

This is awesome. Wombat1940.

I think you might be the first to discover this particular way of getting blown up!

Supercruise Assist is a new addition to the game that wasn't available when I started playing. It's intended to help newcomers who haven't learned out to actually pilot their ship yet, and to provide some convenience to those that are more experienced.

So I find it amusing that you've found a way to get it to kill you. Just tell it to auto-cruise right into a star! I love it (and you).

Keep up the good work. But don't do that particular one again, eh? :p

I've several times super cruised into a star manually, usually when I think that the system map have been playing nice and I got the actual planet or station targeted, but the route decide to ignore that I've target something when you click the "plot route" and choose what's behind the box you hover over. If you come in hot thinking it's a station but it's in reality a secondary star/planet, this may not show visually before you're too close to abort and crash into the EZ. This predicting of wrong thing can also happen in the galaxy map, but it's significantly more obvious when you try to click to plot a route to a certain system and instead zoom in way behind it.

Hmm. I may have to buy a sidewinder and try that!
While you're discovering creative ways to get fried, you might want to limit the scope of that space with settings to help reduce likelihood of known ones. One such setting is Hyperspace Dethrottle. It helps prevent you from flying into the sun of a system that you drop in to (end of a hyperspace jump).

I believe that it's ON by default however it's easy to check. See this post...

Happy travels!

Forced "submission" to interdiction?
I'm pretty new, so maybe this has been posted previously. I don't know. If it has, I apologize. What I'm referring to in the title, for the record, is not forced interdiction- as in failing to evade an interdiction attempt, thereby taking damage and being burdened with an extended FSD cooldown...

You also use less fuel when you have fewer systems powered on. Maybe that's something you're interested in also?
Right ...... back to it. Please standby ....

I'm searching for:
(a) the buy category that the better Life Support system is listed under so as to purchase the same?
And,
(b) searching to find how do I find where I can purchase the same?
Any advice? Thanks
