You don't have to be careful, just better.
A rigorous jump procedure is a must. If you cant scoop, honk, check the system for scan worthiness, check the galaxy map for your next start, and still press the Jump button within 15 seconds, all in perfect safety, you are doing it 'wrong'. (Hint:You can do some of these things after pressing the Jump button while it is charging)
