Stats panel is fantastic, thanks!

So many awesome little things to track on there. Fuel costs, repairs, profit from trades.. loving it. :p

Quick and honest review of 3.9

I've only had about an hour so far to play Beta 3.9, but I had to get on and give a quick, perhaps a little biased, but honest review.

First, Great job on the new startup menus, they look great, polished and professional, like I'd expect from a released game.

Login was far faster than it's been in beta til this point. Getting from clicking Play to sitting in the cockpit took a matter of less than a minute, closer to 20 seconds, where before it could take 2 or more minutes for me.

The sidewinder's graphics look great, more worn and used than it used to be. the hud is crisper, still got the orbit lines, but that's ok, it never bothered me.

The right panel looks great, the new reputation setup looks great, and if you scroll through, left to right (can't remember if it was q/e or a/d, rather than scrolling through the menus, you see more financial information, like what you've spent on fuel, and it even shows your insurance percentage. There's alot more, but that's just a bit of what I looked at before I had to logout for dinner.

Addition: I forgot to mention the Galaxy map, absolutely wonderful, I love how it looks. Far better than before, as well as the outfitter's screen, I didn't spend much time on it, but it's got far more information than before. I haven't been to the shipyard yet, but a friend tells me it's also revamped and great, I'll trust her judgement on that until I get to see it myself.

I had to reset all my controls and HOTAS settings, everything was back to defaults. There are a few more controls that need to be setup, FSD has now been split into 3 functions, including Hyperspace and Supercruise being bindable to different keys.

I honestly think, if the Gamma and release are equal or better than this, the game would even WOW, and perhaps change the minds of, those that are currently discontented and leaving Elite. That is not meant in any way to rub salt into any wounds, it's truly my personal opinion that it'll turn heads and give pause for reevaluation.

Keep up the good work FD, you've definitely outdone yourselves. I now wish more than even that I could be at the launch party, but alas I can't afford to come to the UK, nor do I have a passport :( .

Eek, Sorry, meant this to be a new thread :(

I'm sitting here eagerly waiting for the download to complete, thinking about all the bounty hunting I'm gonna do between now and gamma. Its good combat practice and I can always use the credits. :D

P.S. First post, hello Y'all!

The small Fighters no longer have 100000 tonne fuel tanks, meaning they should no longer destroy anacondas and other big ships on impact!

Just reading the change log while patching.
I LOLed at this.

So thats why hitting fighters has been so deadly.

Yeah, somebody put in a ridiculously high number so they'd never see small fighters running out of fuel in the engagement - thinking "meh, we don't want this to happen, lets just make their fuel effectively unlimited"

Only problem was, that gave them enough MASS to crush an Anaconda like an eggshell when they collided.

I'm still laughing over this one, but in a good way because I have seen SO many "unintended consequences" like this that makes devs go "oops"

No bobbleheads in this one? Hmph. Looks like I'll have to wait for the next patch.

Also, "Police and bounty hunters never interdict "clean" players" THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really care for the large amounts of interdictions. Its a bit too much and my twitch skills as an older player are somewhat lacking so I have a hard time getting to the escape vector.

Maybe if you increased the rate of interdiction in anarchy systems and lowered them in governed systems.

I've evaded 3 for 3 interdictions (2 in LP98) - it's not super difficult and really gives you a feel of running the gauntlet into an anarchy system - good stuff!

Yeah. Anarchy systems should have many interdictions. Governed systems should have less.

Thanks Michael, I couldn't be more impressed with the amount of changes and the new experience in game. I thoroughly enjoyed my new start. You guys, as always, are do an awesome job!

Bits of the galaxy currently uploading to a tiny island in the Indian Ocean…

Thanks for the great improvements Frontier!

I'm eagerly waiting to fight the AI with the new pips management. (and so many more things!)

Very first impressions, start screen and menus

Very, very first impressions, loving the new menus and screenshot backgrounds. I will be looking for all that smoke and debris mining in game that is on some of the menu screens and looks cool.

Everything seems a bit improved to me and the exit from Supercruise is the best addition; no lag tonight on exit and zoomin up on the station like a star is just tops.

Trading screen much improved- very readable now, new commodities info under Galactic Average drop-down menu!

So much good, but I do have of course a list of improvement possibilities already. Some of these have been on my list for a while. I hope the UI team is reading for sure...

Need a different screenshot on each Options menu... would be more sexy.

The new Controls menu is a better look. I think it would be better still to define the sections more distinctly by varying the color or a bold line in addition to the indent.

So far most of the buggy stuff from past builds seems better to me and the core systems are certainly busier. If Gamma has additional polish (not sure how, with just two days, maybe another branch being brought into the release build?) then it will be very, very impressive.

#1 best improvement is exiting super-cruise to stations, view now zooms in just like to the stars. However, entry to Supercruise and Hyperspace still laggy, jittery, frozen screens for a few seconds. If the smoothness of entering SC and jumps can be fixed like the exiting before 16 Dec I will be happy. Ideally the space stations should be visible in SC just like planets, as we approach.

Will mash keys and try to break things to ticket tomorrow.

No crashes, no jitter in normal flight, looking good.

Like the changes in 3.9 - thanks for that.

I would ask 2 things:
  • Please implement navigation chains already. Let me select a destination and have the next possible jump entered as a destination instead of the final destination (it's one of the main reasons to have a nav computer!) as I'm starting to get old and my memory isn't what it once was. I mention it here, because we're 2 days from Gamma, and we don't have it yet. I wouldn't think it would be hard to implement given all you've already done.
  • Please give the NPCs less crack so they won't interdict me 3 times a light second. I love the mechanic, but cripes on a cracker so do the NPCs! I want to continue to love the mechanic and be surprised by it, not begin to hate it because it becomes, "awww jeeeez not that again..."

And now I'm wondering what Frontier staff do in their spare time.

Seriously guys, that's an impressive list. Very well done.

Cheers, Phos.

lol what spare time they must be sleeping at the keyboard for minimal power naps!

great job devs! still having problems with market data being inacurate even when bought but over all im having a much smoother time of it and the small peek of the graphics polish i saw between ibootis and styx before bed time were just AWSOME!
