I don't know if anyone is still having problems jumping into hyperspace but mine has just crashed twice in a row...odd.

No there are some issues with it that we're having to resolve with Oculus.

Michael

Glad to hear this is being actively addressed. E:D on the DK2 is hands down the best VR application yet. Does anyone know where we can go to follow the progress on this issue? I cannot wait to try direct mode!

Thanks,
Ozzy

Just some first impressions that I don't see reference to ... but if there are threads that might help with any of this I'd very much appreciate a heads up ...

1) On arrival into a system, I'm faced with a beautiful sun, that I want to just stare at for a while ... but I can't because within seconds I'll be dropped out of supercruise due to proximity.

Throttle down during the jump. Simples.

2) Space is a bit ... empty! :) Yeah, I know ... but I just think the background is pretty drab right now, no clouds, no nebula in the distance, no interesting things at all, just static dots for stars. Feels a bit retro, or is that the idea?

Probably the idea - you do know that you will be able to target those static dots (which are actually dynamically generated) and fly there? Give them time for more scenery - space has just had a make over, nebulae etc won't be in yet.

3) Supercruise is ok, it works ... but it's so hard to judge & control speed, and with all the yellow lines everywhere it's more like some kind of vector game than a space travel experience. I wanna see the sun, and the moons appear as little dots until I start getting nearer and see features appearing ... I know that happens, but it just doesn't feel like it does because I'm focused entirely on little yellow lines & speed control.

Practice - once you get used to it there's plenty of time for looking around. If you're focused on the bars, you're doing it wrong ;)

I want to arrive in a system and see the star, marvel at the plantary bodies in the distance, and feel like I'm in a solar system. But I don't.

That depends how close the planetary bodies are to the star doesn't it?

4) Dropping out of supercruise at a station is a nightmare. Finding the bloody door on a station is a nightmare ... isn't there (or shouldn't there be) some way of knowing the orientation of the station so that you can drop out of supercruise facing the entrance? I bought a docking computer, but if you aren't pretty much aligned with the station entrance it freaks out too and sends me spinning in circles around the door. I sold it because it's actually easier to dock without one.

Dropping out of SC is simple. Do it in the blue area and you'll be 20k from the station. If you try and get clever with a Corolis, you can drop right on top of it which is a "Bad Thing(tm)".

Docking is trivial, you shouldn't need a docking computer to do it - if you don't have a joystick, buy one - it'll transform the experience. The station door is simple to find, it's on the panel which isn't moving (only rotating), and is shown on the station image in the left of the hud - if you can't see it, you're on the wrong side of it. Look for the billboards in the core systems - it's really very simple.

But essentially, I kind of feel like the majority of my time has been spent looking at the wee yellow lines and my speed in supercruise, and then looking at the ass end of a station trying to find the entrance!!

For a game that looks so pretty, it seems a shame to have all these nice features that don't actually appear much on my screen.

Or do I just utterly suck at flying? :)

Probably - you just need to practice. This isn't an instant gratification game.

Not sure on what's happening here but I could not dock my type 6 on the landing pad at beagle 2 I was given clearance for pad 41 so I went to that pad tried to dock but just kept bouncing off so got off tried again same thing so left the station and waited till time ran out then re quested docking again and given pad 11 so off I go but the same thing again...anyone else have this problem?

Occasionally, try getting to the point where it would normally land (just before you hit the ground) and then move slowly backwards and forwards I found it usually docks a little behind the blue zone

The Lakon 6 appears to be very fussy with your horizontal attitude on landing, pop up a touch and make sure you are as dead level as you can manage and then drop down and try again.

I had it once that I got pad 36 and when I approached it it screamed "PAD LOITERING" at me...
No idea anymore which ship that was, might have been a T6 too.

I'm also still waiting on my ticket about my Anaconda that blew up and isn't showing up on the insurance despite me still having atleast 2.3mil left.

Does anyone know what an Anaconda's insurance with 1x C8 Plasma Acc, 1x C6 Beam Laser, 2x C5 Pulse Laser (G) and 2x C3 Pulse Laser (G) is?
That should be below 2.3mil right?

With that much cash, you shouldn't need to ask :D (you're covered)

I want to arrive in a system and see the star, marvel at the plantary bodies in the distance, and feel like I'm in a solar system. But I don't.

Space is empty. The entire universe is 99.9999999999999% empty space. You could leave the Earth in a space ship, set off in a straight line, and not hit anything due to all the empty space out there.

So you want to feel like you're in a solar system? Well, stand in your back yard at night and look up with your naked eyes, what do you see? Do you see Jupiter? Do you see Saturn and it's rings? What about Mars? Even if you can recognise these objects in the night sky, they're tiny from our point of view and virtually indistinguishable from the background stars. You see the moon so large because it's only 363,104 km away, and the sun because it's 147 million km away (and looks roughly the same size as the moon because it's much larger yet further away), an absolutely tiny distance when we're living in a solar system that has a radius of 4.545 billion km and a 9.09 billion km diameter.

1 AU (astronomical unit) is the distance of the Earth to the Sun, 98.2 million miles. If we scale that so that 1 AU = 1 inch then 63,360 inches = 5.88 trillion miles.

The nearest known star to the Sun is Proxima Centauri, and it's about 4.2 light years away. That makes it 4.2 miles away to scale (roughly). At 60 mph it would take over four minutes to reach, which might not sound a lot, but remember that everything is scaled down. At that speed, on this scale, you’re crossing the entire Earth/Sun distance in less than one-thousandth of second!

If you really could drive from the Earth to the Sun at that speed it would take over 175 years.

In the words of Douglas Adams in The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."

Just wanted to make sure I can complain when I get one of these famous "that is intended *closed*" ticket responses ^^
Kinda ironic that the first ship I lose in Beta 1 is the most expensive one of all.

I really hate the booster mechanic in ED, I disliked it from the beginning but now I just hate it : /

Don't press it? :)

(seriously - rebind it, if it is becoming an issue...)

That doesn't really fix a bad mechanic.
It'd really prefer a booster where I can actually control how much I'm boosting instead of one that fires for a constant time no matter what.

The best example is the LT9, that thing boosts for like 4 seconds and when you turn off Flight Assist you need only 1 of these 4 seconds to get to 200 from 0 m/s so most of the booster is wasted into heating your ship up.

But I bet even if I'd suggest a change to that most Elitists would just say it's perfect like it is so whatever.

Anyways, does anyone know what's the average response time on tickets?
If I keep waiting for the support to fix my missing Anaconda I can as well get a LT6 and work up again to the millions I need.

Yes, I've had this happen a few times too, like someone said, you can usually get a dock by wriggling around a bit... ED may need to look at how fussy this is ATM.

I *think* it's because the landing pad helper thing is tilted on the type 6 so it's not as easy to gauge whether you're actually level or not. It's happened to me a couple of times and I've realised that I've needed to level the ship by eye (against the structures) to land. Though I agree it could do with being made a little less picky.

Bloody....

Game keeps crashing to the desktop now....

I only think I have downloaded/installed the latest up date.

I'm not so sure though, because it doesn't say it 's 1.03!

It says 0.3.1310.0 down on the right-hand side at the bottom of the launcher.

Damn thing, I'm not even sure how to get id of the last one.....

I just want to play and earn enough credits to fly a Eagle.

When you load the game it tells you the version in top left of the screen.

The game won't load up without being the correct version.

If you are getting crashes to desktop (can't remember the last time I had one of those) you should send your current hardware config and submit a bug.
