As being as ED is the only space game I play, really looking forward to trying a new one. With base building, ship interiors, skill trees and a modding community...

And single player, I wonder if it will be playable offline?
That is a very good question I didn't even think about.

Hoping that modders might be able to introduce limited multiplayer groups so folk can play with a few friends. I heard (but can't confirm it, never played it) that modders did this for Skyrim - like I said though, not sure this is true.

TBH I mostly play single player anyway, it being offline will be an advantage but not necessary. Having a few friends play would be completely awesome though.

Best games out there right now is, IMO, Empyrion Galactic Survival if you want NPC threats to worry about, Space Engineers if you don't. Of course, since both EGS and SE are indie games with small development teams, Starfield is likely to blow them away when it comes to story and factions, but in the mean time, they're worth a look if you'd like a break from ED in the meantime. :)

I now have multiple space games that I enjoy, and I expect that they will ALL be collecting a lot of dust when Starfield ends up on my computer, which may be at release, or may be a few months later after the first major patch or two.

I am really, REALLY excited about what Starfield may be as a game. The only disappointment I'm bracing for is how Starfield will handle flying over planets, which IIRC it won't. On the other hand, I'm not an "spaceship flight simulator only" guy - in fact I probably spent more time in Skyrim than Elite in total, so if Starfield is Skyrim in space, then I will likely lose myself in that world (or 1000 worlds in this case) for at least a year if not more.

I expect it will be predominantly "legs" gameplay.

I'm joining the cue for interest in this game. Adventure, base building, research and exploration. Fits my criteria very well, i don't even mind that space flight will probably be controlled via keyboard and mouse. Building the ships is very appealing especially as ship interiors seems to be a thing.

Yeh, I’m expecting the flight model and ship combat to feel pretty ropey a la NMS / Rogue Squadron but hoping Starfield will deliver the story and immersion that is missing in elements of ED.

Not fussed about base building, personally - that was always a frustrating part of previous Fallout games for me - but the ship building, if it can be varied enough, looks very cool.

Safe to say this new game has a like bit of cool for most people.
Is there a definitive YouTuber(s) covering this game?

Well, then there are the Bethesda game obsessives, who make endless amounts of multi-hour long videos on every minor bit of lore and mystery. :p

I pretty much do several searches per week to see what's going on with this. Things are definitely hotting up, though there's too much speculation from different sides with different opinions at the moment (and I don't like to post gossip lol).

Doesn't stop me being excited; I'm pretty busy for the next few months so will be glad if it takes longer to come out :D

Will be getting a new laptop in the next month or three with an RTX-3080-Ti inside; I know it won't be as good as a desktop version but that's the price for mobility.

I am hoping that every so often Starfield will get a new DLC for another portion of the galaxy not already explored/open to players. Start 'small' (100 systems or whatever it is) then deliver new content for new areas. If I like the game I'd definitely pay for it. I'd love to speculate on a game mods wish list but don't want to have too many expectations. Gamer creativity appears to hold no bounds.

Im very curious on whether the first (and speculated second) delay will include some sort of atmospheric control.

I can't imagine how they could implement proc gen planets but then have cutscenes to fps. SRVing an entire planet is an extreme concept from elite... so how are you supposed to select where you go?

The could implement some sort of algorithm based auto land.. they would have to do some sort of lod zoom map? Elites planet tech but mouse controlled? They didn't show that.

Just leaving it with no control would be so bad. Pick a spot and enjoy your chance on what you end up landing on.

Hopefully you can exit the seat and walk around while in space.

The landing and takeoff are the parts I'm most concerned about too. I kind'a like the whole "must know how to do it" part of Elite. It's not just click and wait.

My first time checking in on this 2 yr old post, watched the 15 min "trailer", I do think flight might be secondary, as in cut scenes while landing/taking off, based solely on the video presented. It went from an 3rd person of thrusters to being in orbit. I could be jumping to conclusions as they were skipping through the walking to the abandoned outpost gameplay too.
Looks like a fun game, even if it's all been done before.

I wouldn't be surprised if modders come in and eventually turn the Starfield into a full 6DoF spaceflight sim, assuming the game truly has Skyrim-level moddability.

But even if they don't, I think I'll love it. It seems a lot of people "need" a single game to scratch every itch, whereas I'm happy to use multiple games to scratch all my itches, and the 6DoF flight itch is currently scratched by Space Engineers and X4 Foundations (and if I'm desperate enough to reinstall it, Horizons 3.8). None of my games however scratch the "me and my crew living on my ship in a universe full of realistic characters" à la Firefly itch, which I think Starfield will do.
