Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

I am so happy that Starfield is not multiplayer. Got about 1100 hours or more in X4 currently, flying my little space ships around, building stations, hiring crew, modding, etc., etc.. And I don't miss multiplayer one bit. Nor those pesky engineers, refueling, heat problems, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

Fingers crossed....

Yeah, MP is not always good, a good SP game is also hard to find. The outpost building is something I look forward to.

Besides ED I've played mostly singleplayer games, especially rpg's, so Starfield is right up my alley.
It's not that multiplayer can't be fun but I take just so much time to play games, beside my other activities, having to adjust my playtime to other's time being online is hardly doable.

I'm glad we have a release date for Starfield now but man September is still long time from now, on the other hand when summer comes I'm usually quite occupied with other outdoors activities.

Does anyone know about how to get Starfield when it comes out - I've heard of MS Game Pass but do not have XBox.

Will I be able to get it for Windows (am assuming Linux is too much of an ask - out of the box, that is) as a basic install or will I have to buy into services (like game pass) etc.?

It will be on steam, you can already wishlist it. don't know if it will be on any drm free platforms if that's what you are looking for

If Starfield is successful then I'm sure we will see an online version a year or so later.
If that happens then Elite will be finished.
If Starfield becomes multiplayer then I think both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen will get a big hit in player numbers.
Starfield won't be on Playstation, those players would've probably keep playing ED, imho Frontier shot themselfs in the foot by kicking the console players out the window.

Don't know about that. I played the heck out of the single player games but ESO held no interest for me.

A single player Starfield is interesting. An online one, not so much. You'd lose the modding and (importantly, being Bugthesda) the community fixes.

I honestly don't know a lot about these new-fnagled games but I thought it depended on what kind of online game it is.

For example, one of my friends plays 7 Days to Die where a person can host the server - and they can add whatever mods they want. I think depending on the type of mod players might also need to install them.

For MMRPG where the business hosts the server, then yes, mods would be out (unless the company added them).

Why would SP game buyers translate to MP sales? That doesn't make any sense.
If they'd add multiplayer to Starfield then both singleplayers and multiplayers would have reason to buy the game.
I don't realy see it happen though, besides ESO Bethesda haven't been that strong in the multiplayer section imho, Fallout 76 wasn't exactly a blockbuster.
They're very good at singleplayer games though, at least I think so.

How would you "add MP to a SP game" in the first place? Can't make it online only because the SP already have their saves, maybe mods and whatnot. Unless you'd wipe that and make a new mandatory online only client - and that's gonna be super popular.
And if you do "optional MP" how good is that gonna be? Crap connections, janky netcode. Member FO76? The animations tied to FPS? Yeah that's gonna go down well in MP games. You want a MP game don't buy them off MP noobs. Bethesda isnt good at MP.

I do like games that can be self-hosted. Plus it also means that even when support stops, you can continue playing, unless MMOs where the servers go off, that's it.

I don't remember any game from them where they added an MMO. As far as I know Skyrim VR, Fallout 76, TES online are separate games.
