Better VR performance?

Using an older machine with Oculus Rift VR that runs pretty smoothly except with slight jitter in stations - asteroid fields and CZs are fairly smooth.

All of a sudden the game is nearly unplayable. The main station screen takes about 5+ seconds to load, and menu navigation has become unpredictable - skipping forward or not enough through the menu items. At all other times frame rate is jittery and terrible.

Really bad update for me, although I really love the super cruise assist.

I always used to have FX on high and pre this latest patch, it was pretty smooth throughout (CV1, mostly high settings, 1.5 SS etc) - since the April patch it appears very jittery around stations and busier areas. I tend to play offline when in VR, so wouldn't have expected any latency issues to be the jittery cause.

I turned FX off last night and there was an improvement, i'm not sure exactly what FX actually gives you, didn't seem to be immediately apparent what this actually does.

It's worse than I thought. On landing at a station and letting the game 'catch up', it takes THIRTY FIVE seconds to go from station services select to the main menu being drawn. I'll try Kemo's suggestion of turning FX off, will see what happens.

Turning it off works for me (and I like the look of some of the station interiors without it). What's sad is that it didn't look any different to before with it all on that I noticed.

What is this "Turning FX off" thing - I cannot find it in the graphics menu.

Kemo, Helvellyn, Please let me know what you selected to make this better.

Settings -> Graphics -> Expand "Quality" (click the + in front of it) -> click on "FX Quality" -> set it to "off" -> click "Apply" at the bottom of the menu -> enjoy a much improved frame rate.

Thanks Zakk, Faded Glory,

that did the trick! I made the mistake of navigating the options using the HOTAS - for some reason cannot expand the + key, needed to use the mouse.

Can finally play like the version before the current release.

Many thanks!

If the workaround is as simple as turning off one graphics setting that doesn't have a huge impact on the overall appearance, I'd say this is no biggie. Fix it, but take your time and make sure you don't break 2 new things while fixing this one :)

Btw, I would agree that the overall VR performance, outside of the FX problem, has been improved with the recent update.

That's a good point to make. It took me a little while when starting out in VR to realise the HOTAS wouldn't do everything and that you can still use your mouse, very easily, within the menus.

there have been several Oculus updates, one enabled streaming live to facebook from rift and another implemented asw 2.0. Frontier however never updated their code to use any of that. as far as I can tell that is.
