!!BGS Guide update 3.3.02!!

Hello people of the void,

Since the changes to the Background simulation system, my faction and I have been trying hard to understand what works and what doesn't.
So far, not a whole lot is working as it should. And if it does, well we don't really know cause we don't know how it is supposed to work in the first place.

I know we're not the only group in this situation and from what I can gather, nobody knows really.

So, Frontier, I was wondering if it would be possible to start working on a complete guide of the new BGS, something like the bible of the Background Sim. Something we could all use to understand and spot for you where the numbers are not adding up?

We need help soon please

Thank you

The only thing that would do at the moment is give us a reference of what would be a bug and what not. The BGS doesn't really work at the moment, and it's not a question of not understanding new mechanics. Stuff just doesn't work. There was a patch yesterday, but results of the last two ticks are bizarre and a load of mechanics still don't seem to have the expected effect.

Came hoping OP had written a BGS guide, left sad that they hadn't.

This game is much more a 'write it yourself' type jobbie - though as others have said, noy much point at the moment, as it's bust.

First rule of BGS club, you don't talk about BGS club.
Second rule of BGS club, you don't talk about BGS club.
Third rule of BGS club, no one knows exactly how it works.

There is this... not sure how up to date it is. Might be a good place to start and mark what is working like it should and what is not. I have a very limited understanding of the BGS so all I can do at this point is read as much as I can about it to learn. I do know that some player factions have lost control of their systems because of some unknown reason regarding the BGS and it not working like it should. I'm gonna go help a faction today sometime that is trying to regain control but again, understanding the mechanics is not very clear to me yet.

The complete 3.3 BGS guide.

Part 1:

Its broke as hell.

Part 2:

The latest patch rebalanced the broke as Hell BGS instead of fixing the bugs that did the breaking.

Part 3:

Yes I'm a little salty, due to QA's suggestion that the gamebreaking bug was a display issue after 5 weeks of a fundamentally broken BGS.

now i think you're fully up to speed with 3.3.

FD please fix the damn bugs and give us our game back.

Indeed, the current BGS Guide wouldn't even fill a single Page, since almost nothing works or makes sense.

At best, it'd say "Warning : due to severe design flaws and/or bugs, stay well clear of it until confirmed in a working condition again".

AFAIK we don't have a BGS right now.
We kinda lost it at V3.3.0 release, everything after that was a "funny numbers generator" that gave every backwater Faction Conflicts, Elections, Investment and Civil Unrest *wait* that's called Liberty now, while auto-draining Influence for Controlling Factions.

However, I sure would like FDev to come forward and at least explain how they intended everything to work now.
A 1-liner in the Patchnotes doesn't explain anything and what we've seen over the last month was absolute chaos at best.

Im quite happy to try to figure out the BGS system, its half the fun. trying to figure this out......

Funny.

This post implies that FDev knows how the BGS works.

A bit cynical perhaps, but not untrue. Wasn 't it groups like The mercs of micunn and some others who wrote a (then) definitive guide on the bgs?
Try to discover the finepoints and workings of the bgs solely based on in-game sources. Good luck...

Walt did an excellent write up and collation of BGS info.

There was also a fair bit of public engagement from FD with the active groups - mostly involving mischievously cryptic posts from Michael Brookes. It was good fun figuring it out. It was a real black box in the early days, you kids dont know how easy you have it! :)

I kind of wish they would sit down and explain the scenarios so everyone has a clear cut definition on how to play it. They designed it. Show us the intentions, explain in detail and give examples for each phase of the BGS.

I dont think its very fair to leave it up to us figuring out gameplay mechanics vs those strategically using those gameplay mechanics.

A lot changed with this new update. I think whats throwing a lot of people off is all states default back to none if players don't actively work them.

But working them and how to work them is something thats needed.

I'd like to see Adam Waite and maybe a few others sit down and explain the rules like a game of monopoly. So that way hidden information doesnt stay hidden while people stomp others simply because they know how transactions work or not.

But thats me, I'd rather it be fair and have the tools available for everyone. Instead of leaving it up to us to figure out. In-which some people wont do any research but what they expect out of the game.

And the reason I'd like it to come from a developer is so that way there are no arguments or misunderstanding between the players. Id like to see more transparency in a lot of area's but especially the BGS.

Having an indepth tutorial from Fdev. Like when they first released the BGS system would be great.

I'd like to see an official one. Explaining everything all the way down to how to flip a system ect.

If it's any consolation, I don't think they know anymore either. Why they make everything so complicated is beyond me. It doesn't make the game any more fun.
