BGS questions

I know there's a billion page thread, I'm not reading it all, so some questions before the lock:

I've been away engineering my ships, I've come back and my faction's home system has gone from Empire to federation, there's one adjacent system where they are still control, but it's surrounded by other federation systems

What I want to know is:

How can I preserve their dominance in the one remaining system? Trade, bounty hunting, what's best?

Is the BGS only influenced by human players?

And does one player make that much of a difference?

They all work. But a combination of different methods works best. (edit - correction: it does depend on faction states. Trading and missions won't help during war and civil war, bountyhunting won't help during election)

Yep. The only way NPCs can influence the BGS is by exploding.

The larger the system population the harder it gets.
But I've flipped systems with populations in the billions by myself. Currently completing the takeover of a system with 8.4 billion, but there is about four of us doing this.

It only has a pop of 250,000 so this should be relatively easy to preserve on my own?

It depends on what other player activity there is in the system. But 250K is small to medium, so without opposition it shouldn't be too hard.

There can be a problem if you are near to a busy system, such as Sirius. Lots of players doing random missions or bountyhunting can have quite an effect on the BGS.

Assuming no-one else is working the system, then yes. The thing to check is the "traffic report" in the station news in that system. This "Traffic" only counts human players, across all game modes and platforms. If it's low, then you've probably only got the occasional random visitor and your efforts should be fruitful. If it's high (over 100), then it probably has the attention of players already, either because of powerplay, rare goods, lore, or other factors and a single player isn't going to make terribly much difference, no matter what you do. It will also tell you the types of ships the other players are using, which might give you some idea of the kinds of activities they're doing.

From the sounds of it, your system is somewhere down near the Empire-Federation border. It's likely that space is thick with powerplayers and/or rusted-on Federation loyalists pushing to conquer the Empire one system at a time. Systems don't flip from Empire to Federation by accident.
