Big Rant! Directed at ED dev team

And I don’t know about the rest of you, But OMG!!!!!! Frontier, if you don’t pull your fingers out, this game is dead!!!!

I couldn't agree more, I have seen some truly epic ideas thrown at Frontier Developments, All have been ignored, I just don;t get it, Frontier Developments are quite well off in the finance department so it cannot be funding.

Maybe FD don't want to compete with Star Citizen which even though it is another 3 or so years away from a proper release but looking at that then looking at this, Sorry but as soon as SC is a full release I'm abandoning the ED ship for good unless FD start putting some effort in and as the OP said, Pull their fingers out.

Things like being able to walk around your ship, FD talked about it a lot and even showed some footage in 2014, And even talked about walking in stations etc.... we still have nothing.

Infinity: Battlescape has been in development for a very long time indeed, and it has far less ambitious goals than Elite: Dangerous. It seems to me that it will complement Elite: Dangerous very nicely, doing what (in my opinion) CQC fails to do. But perhaps we'd better reserve judgement until it is released.

Different games have different strengths and weaknesses. The nice thing is, we're allowed to play more than one game.
Are you still saying it's absurd to think a game can have atmospheric landing? Or are you retracting that and just suggesting to play other game?

Wow. Do you think we could have an executive summary?

Without even reading his epic tale I bet I can do that for you! Here goes!

Too much crowdsourced gameplay on the forums/youtube not enough in game content.

Not rolling out the content the player base still has hopes is coming. Like space legs, even if only on stations or social hub areas.

Nothing of substance to do on planets. Like get out of the SRV and into a building for some mission purpose.

Missions and background sim is stale with nothing to connect the player to the who what and why of doing missions. Who is the mission giver? What exactly are we doing for them and why? Who are we working against when taking a mission? It's always just a stale delivery for credits. No narrative.

Relying too much on 3rd parties to fill gaps that should be filled in house.

We're several years in and none if the stuff we all hoped for has come. Were still just delivering from A to B without any real reason to do so other than credits.

Does that sum it up? LoL

I'll say something good and sum up even more. The tech is cool. The flight mechanics are great. There just isn't any connection for the players to the world. It's flying in empty space for no reason. Which gets boring fast.

But we all still have hope. Right? Even if it's false hope it keeps us checking in a few hours here and there to see if maybe there's a game coming to the foundation they talk about all the time.

Apparently you should apply for a job with Frontier because this is going completely against the public report from them on its difficulties for creating believable immersion.

CIG is doing it, NMS did it(indie), uisoft is working on it(not experienced in space games)... and you are gonna say that they cant, knowing that their flagship game is a space game? bruh.. YES THEY CAN, they just wont do it because they want you to pay for it or they are giving priority to other games. so far they have to promise to accomplish 1.atmo landings 2.space legs. staying quiet and hoping that we forget will only makes people ask for it more.

You're dealing with different game engines and different dynamic of programmers. Just because it's been done in NMS and CIG doesn't mean it can be done here smoothly and effortlessly. Trying to do a comparison based on the gaming engine would be like comparing pineapples to cumquats or dragon fruit.

I didn't say it can't be done... I am saying that the Devs have said publicly they are having problems -- with this engine's coding -- that is making it difficult to incorporate atmospheric re-entry/landings in the same way non-atmospheric landings are handled.

Especially when you consider SenseiMatty's rant here is an underlying issue that your selective focus is only one smaller part of a bigger picture.

Well that was a long read. I agree with some of it. The main issue is even though at the expo FD came out with loads of info, they still need to be giving user more info on what comming or even just having some one or ones who actively take a look at this forum and the likes of readit etc, and them comment, it would save a lot of threads like this and save a lot of speculation and guess work.

That's the problem with expos, cons and what not... they're a hype generating machine for what's coming instead of what's being worked on. What they (Braben and FDev) don't realize is that you generate too much hype and you'll find even the apologists and loyalists turning on your product like a pack of wolves looking for meat and blood.

Just ask Hello Games how that worked out for them.

I love when people tout SC as the best game ever.

You know what 1313 was the best Star Wars game ever! Did you see those pictures and developers notes! All other SW games are garbage in comparison, because I watched a podcast on it.

Not to go too far off the beaten path... that was put on hold by Disney and not cancelled.

Star Citizen? Sorry, I'm not a fan of kickstarters. Especially ones that require a monetary buy in for an alpha gaming experience with top of the line system equipment. This feels like the bored millionaire with money to burn that wants a flying car.

Although, given the OP's sentiment and my gaming experience at the moment, I might want to find something else to pass my time with instead...

So engine is the problem eh? planet coaster has a an atmo system on the same engine and proves that can be made, its just a matter of how can be implemented in elite, some planets in ED have fog thats proof that the can do it if they put their mind into it. But they are not working on it. so what are they working on? PUNISHMENT... g.. useless.. punishment, not atmo, not legs, not bases, not rework of the missions/ career system.... fan g... punishment... let me save some time to Fdev here regarding punishment, is called: solo play/private group. it took them 2+ years to finally come up with the idea of "hey lets give a floating base to players so they can play united". Soooo... no i dont like mediocre. is no excuse, they have been working on other games and splinting dev power thats why takes so long to do anything. And Fdev is lucky to have one of the most borderline loyal fan base of gaming because if this was going on other game, there would a massive boycott ala nms. They have the talent, the money, and the love of their player base. Get to work.

That is partially incorrect. It's actually the COBRA Engine. Although you're right in that they share the same engine.

While I haven't had the want to playing Planet Coaster some of the Streamers I watched for Elite: Dangerous also seem to be Planet Coaster fans and see there's development problems with that game in regards to both physics, asset placement and asset physics that make little to no sense. There's also a big problem with how things can be hung in the air in Planet Coaster that while it works all right for a static picture of the amusement park would definitely be immersion breaking if they were to transfer to Elite: Dangerous.

But they are not working on it. so what are they working on?

You are aware in the business world, "Working on it" can (and does) include planning and pre-development? As it stands Ice World Landings seem to have been brought up for 2018. I think they gave a promise time and even as a business person I'm not going to buy into it until we're actually in 2018 and another PR announcement comes for it. I have too much experience with Valve taking their time for a release.

Look, I understand your frustration. Lord knows I'm feeling a lot of it lately even after reading the OPs' long post and couple that with my trying my hand at Power Play... As of this response, I realize that it's going to take a lot more dedication to the game than I'm willing to want to invest with the Holiday season coming up and how my family tends to tax my free time more than they do.

If you feel they're frelling around with your time, patience and energy with this faffing of theirs... You know what your options are. At least I hope you know all your options.

its ok i have elite on rotation with OW and casually pew pew in Hz or CZ. making cr this way takes forever but its what i like. i was just venting a lil bit againt Fdev.

Calibrate

I feel almost the same way except my biggest complaint is the game isn’t player driven at all I was expecting player driven economy, player driven factions, player driven goals, player driven bounty force and player driven crime. But what I got was a single player game with multiplayer plug in, no incentive to talk or play with anyone seeing another player is like seeing an npc.... ohh look another mindless ai doing whatever mundane task the rest are doing.... “forge your own path” “cutthroat galaxy” all these quotes brought me to this game none delivered... I have been playing for a year and a half now.... seriously considering quitting

There is a game called eve online for your demand. be advised lots of screaming and jerk players since the game is so stressful. I sure do not want elite dangerous to be another eve online...
