Newcomer / Intro Black Boxes

Hello! new here, am Xeek in game (sumbuddeh took my Xeex, imma find uuu)

I know theres a few posts about black boxes already but, the forums wont allow me to reply in those threads until i start one of my own, soooooo

from what i understand, to find these things, i need to be at supercruise, look for a USS (unidentified signal source), aim at it, and drop out of.... warp? ok so, ive got that bit down, and have gotten within 3.4km of the thing, but i cant FIND it after that (i always feel like im passing it). what am i doin wrong? anyone? would love to complete this mission before timer runs out.

when you spot the USS, target it and keep your speed in the blue section of the velocity line. then when you get to around 900m you will see a blue message "Safe Disengage Ready"... press j and you'll drop out with whatever's in the uss on your radar...

Yes, just like dropping into a station except that if you don't do as traceracing suggests using the safe disengage you won't ever get there. This is because the USS function sort of like 'pocket' universes. Sort of popping in and out, unless there are ships flying around inside you can't really drop in and hit the target.

Once you get inside you can target the cargo via the contacts menu or pointing at it and targeting ahead. Then just scoop it up.

If you accidentally destroy it or miss the USS don't despair, just go back into super cruise (warp) and fly around until another one pops up and try again. They seem to be weighted to contain mission items when you have a mission (got 4 in a row with ancient artifacts when that was what I was after, even after picking up all that I needed for the mission - made soooo much smuggling money, I expect people will start exploiting this by taking missions with valuable pickups and not turning them in).

How do we use the scooper? I failed to scoop the explosive item that was literally in front of me. It have a 37% under it but don't know what that was really meant?

i was able to get it, mere seconds after posting that. i was dropping at the safe disengage, just coudl never find em. this time there was a white marker on my lil radar thing. many thanks for the replies =)


oh, and, to pick it up, open scoop and target it, on the left youll see a little.. targeting thing. keep it in the center and youll fly over it and capture
