Horizons Black void during supercruise - bug or feature?

Could someone explain something for me? I've encountered strange glitch three Times since monday. Sometimes there're no stars and lights right after engaging supercruise and sounds are muffled. After few seconds everything returns to normal. Is it a bug, or feature?

As far as I've noticed, its lag. The server needs to accept you are in supercruise and if the server is lagging, you get that screen until it reacts.

Could be wrong, but when everything else is lagging, I get that too.
