"Blockade" of Dav's Hope

Don't mind Stig. What people do in their own time and how they do it drives him nuts when it is not in-line with his doctrine, as demonstrated by him bringing up things others do that he dislikes, in a completely unrelated thread. Hence the hat.

Its just a very convincing photoshop really.

This person destroyed my DBX three times today, when I tried to collect some materials at Dav's Hope. Without provocation. As my DBX was set up for exploration only, it didn't even have shields or weapons. He later sent me a message saying the "blockade is over for today and I that I can use the Dav's Hope".

I was just wondering is this type of behaviour sanctioned by the FDEVS and Game Community?

It's pretty lame if you ask me.
Do as the Uchi Mata part of your name suggests (a Judo move) - use your opponent's strength against him. In this case, use the game's features and log into Solo or a PvE private group. Voila, no more bothersome seal-clubbing PvPers.

Why would you have your CMDR walk into the same fire, the same way, three times?

Nevermind that materials are just as easy to obtain elsewhere, even if you're willing with respawn Dav's Hope with mode swapping (in which case using Open wouldn't make any sense at all), but you seem to have returned with the same loadout and not deployed and dismissed when out of range?

For the record, Dav's Hope is an abandoned mining settlement in a low sec backwater that is frequented by all sorts of opportunistic scum who refill material bins to bait travelers. How else do you think there are always new materials at an 'abandoned' settlement?

"...rare and meaningful..."

My CMDR has been to Dav's Hope twice, so rare certainly applies. Meaningful also applies as the first time it was neat to see the settlement and read the logs, and the second time, it was fun having to shoot down a couple of shifty looking CMDRs and then run off before they came back.

Haven't had a compelling reason to visit again, or frequently, which would certainly diminish both the rarity and meaningfulness of the experiences there.

Shooting at defenceless ships is not my cup of tea, but using relogs ('farming mats') also isn't my cup of tea. The worst what I see here is, that new players, instead learn how to get stuff (materials) during normal gameplay, are using (and are also advised to do so) the most boring/stupid way for this. And here I mean relogfests at places like Dav's Hope ... nice atmospheric place to visit, but used imo very poor way.

Yes, I'm quite sure that my pov will be highly unpopular ...

I must be lame then :D

I'll cope.
It's not the player who is lame... It is the design which is lame to encourage (sometimes practically force) the players to do it however. It would be nice to get the mats needed without feeling the need to reset instances imo

But I reckon that has been covered plenty before.

As for OP...anything goes in open, esp lawless systems. Think of it like mad Max it's the closest fit I can think of.

No, you're not wrong. ED is full of stuff like this, where arguably broken things are worked around using other arguably broken things and the conflict comes from everyone having a slightly different opinion on what's an acceptable level of broken.

Material gathering is arguably broken because although it's now easier to obtain high grade materials there's still a need for out-of-game or third-party information to do it in the most efficient way. So some players go to Dav's Hope, which is also broken because it respawns materials upon relogging. And this gives some other players the excuse to engage in asymmetric PVP, which is arguably broken because it offers no context or consequence. Which encourages some of the original players to use the mode system which is arguably broken because it can be used to "hide" from other players...

The only commonality is the "arguably" bit. And if there's one thing that truly unifies this game's community it's the value of a good argument.

There has always been a need for out-of-game or third-party information to do things in the most efficient way.

It used to come in the mail along with letters, which were white rectangles made from trees that people used to scribble on with ink sticks.

Why Dav's Hopes in open? If you want to grind do it in Solo, nobody there to take your spoils.
It's sanctions behavior, you can shoot and get shot at by anyone at any time. That's the Elite way since 1984.
Some locations, like Dav's and Guardian sites, are IMO designed for Solo play. The presence of another player can only ever be a disadvantage; at minimum you will have to share materials and scans with someone else. The only reason to go in Open is if you want the added excitement of trying to beat a "blockade".

Choose the mode that suits what you want to do and don't blame anyone else if you made a sub-optimal choice.
