I think that happens because the group is too big to have the number online found by the server in a reasonable time. It's not actually true.
I don't think it shows how many of the group are online, but how many of your friends are within those groups. But I'm not sure which bit you're looking at.
From the Welcome screen, I had a look in 'Social' -> 'Groups' -> 'Other Groups' -> 'Mobius PVE Eurasia' ( 9384 Members ).
This brings up 470 pages of member names, all in grey. So I started applying the filters from the top right and all of them except 'offline' completely empties the list. I don't have any friends from the list yet because, they're all always showing as offline so I can't make any connections.

So let me get this straight. You went to a hotspot in Open in a shield-less, weapon-less DBX and got destroyed, and you did this 3 times?!
I'm no fan of ganking/griefing, but didn't it occur to you after the first time to try something different? As far as I'm concerned, the first time was the ganker's fault, but the next 2 were your fault.

Like I said, I think this is because the server can't actually cope with such a big group. You could try asking if this is the case on the Mobius website or Facebook group.

the first time was Fdev's fault. They dont offer any in-game way for players to communicate that a "blockade" is being done in a given place. Just like they dont offer any in game ways for any player created "content" to be communicated. So even if this wasn't just a player getting their jollies off killing fools in unshielded tin cans, how would you know without them going out of their way to msg players after the fact? There's certainly not enough time to have a conversation before hand and still have any effective gameplay.
The other two times are definitely the victim's fault. Seriously, what are we supposed to be? Sympathetic to willful suicide? There are so many options to avoid the outcome, that it's odd you'd admit this entire event on the forum.

Thanks for the heads up, good to know it's not just me. Betraying my total lack of familiarity with groups; if a big group is breaking the server doesn't that make the whole group pointless as no-one can ever make use of it?
I took your advice and have put the question up on elitepve for Mobius
I don't think the big PvE PGs are meant to be frameworks where people necessarily know each other like in squadrons, more like an ad-hoc non-PvP modes not provided by FDev where you make friends like you could make them in Open (barring certain ways of making "friends", of course).

It's because FD persist in letting the huge-group sticking-plaster solution go on (administered by players with inadequate tools, which saves FD doing work themselves), instead of addressing the issue properly. But if I say any more this thread will transform into a copy of many others.

Well, I wear varifocals normally but with the lenses, it is for far prescription as distance vision is useless. I just had a look at vr-lens-lab.com (where I actually bought mine from, sorry for previous duff information) and they have a full range of lenses from positive to negative corrections, so if you are willing to try for $99, it may be worth it?
